Jay Polk: Another Occupy phony?

| February 3, 2012

Kevin sent us an article in the East Coast Magazine about a special forces master sergeant by the name of Jay Polk who cooked for the filthy hippies at Occupy San Diego until he called up for a deployment to Afghanistan. Then a few days later, he called a local preacher for some prayers because he was “worried”;

Polk had just learned of his deployment, but said that “he could not divulge anything, since it was really secretive.” Polk said his goodbyes to friends in San Diego just days before news came of his demise.

For those who may not know, it takes “days” just to get to Afghanistan. But the article is dated January 12, 2012, so looking at the casualty lists of the weeks prior to the article, there is no listing for a Jay Polk, or any other Polk;

The article also says that Polk will be buried in his hometown of Iberia, LA, but unless he was transgendered, there’s no record of an obituary by that name in Iberia;

The article explains all of that away;

The U.S. Department of Defense has not yet published news of Polk’s death, however such confirmation is commonly delayed in special forces operations.

Yuh, huh. Well, here we are more than two weeks after the article was written and still no announcement of his death. But Occupy San Diego needed a martyr more than they needed the truth;

At today’s memorial service, a Veterans for Peace member read the poem, Fidler’s Green, to honor Polk’s service in the Cavalry. He also read the Special Forces Prayer, in honor of Polk’s active duty service with the U.S. Special Operations Command.

You know if VFP is involved, there’s something fishy going on. AKO has no record of a Jay Polk. The only person on AKO whose name with that rank is even remotely like MSG Jay Polk is a MSG Jeff Polk who is retired.

The only reason I put a question mark in the title is that we don’t know if that was his real name or not. But you’ll notice the casualty list has no master sergeant listed either. It just sounds too fishy to ignore. Kevin has written to the magazine to get them off their asses to check into the story with their resources. Seems to me that a phony soldier getting the Occupy folks all upset is a bigger story than what they’ve written.

The article says that his Facebook account has been taken down, yet here it is.

Apparently, he wrote on his Facebook page that he was deploying to Syria, which has the Democratic Underground conspiracy theorists spinning. Yeah, I’m sure a real special forces soldier would reveal that tidbit on Facebook.

This tiny entry on a local page of obit announcements in San Diego after the memorial ceremony;

East Coast Magazine just this minute updated their article with a disclaimer;

Update February 3, 2012: Sgt. Polk’s death has still not been reported by the Dept. of Defense, nor has any notice of his death appeared in his family’s hometown newspaper. A source has further informed ECM that his name has not been provided for addition to a memorial that honors fallen special services soldiers. Thus at this point, it appears likely that Polk did not die in service overseas. Perhaps he faked his death, or possibly someone else posted misleading information on his Facebook account. Where is he now? If anyone has conclusive evidence, please email editor@eastcountymagazine.org.

ADDED: Apparently our buds at SOCNET are already on it.

He’s special all right.

Dave Thul

Makes perfect sense really, because when he reappears he can talk about being abducted by black helicopters and Bush/Cheney assassination squads. He will once again be the poster child for the Occupy movement, because clearly black helicopters belong to the 1%.

UpNorth

He was on leave from September until January? And, which Army base did he leave to get to downtown San Diego every day?
And, they not only had this guy, they had a phony Patriot Guard rider?
I checked, and couldn’t find any “Cavalry” units at Ft. Campbell.

ANCCPTLucas

Why are these types always ‘Special Forces’? Is it to make it more glamorous? Get more girls? Lame. And it’s soooo unoriginal. Where are the fake 88M’s or the 57E’s or the 73C’s? It’s ALWAYS ‘special forces’. These guys at least need to mix it up a bit.

Scott

I wonder where his occupy friends got the idea he was a MSG. Surely he told them? Which is funny, because on his Facebook wall he says that he’s a “decorated first sarge” with 17 years time in service. You’d think a guy would know his own rank. He also plays the “classified info” card. It’s infuriating how readily people lap this shit up without asking a single question.

I just talked to one of my sources (secret ninja squirrel in the tree outside) and he tells me that he can neither confirm nor deny what has happened to Master First Sergeant Leo Webb/Jay Polk at this time and if I keep asking, he’s gonna pelt me with stored nuts from the tree.

#3 2-17Cav (air cav) is at Campbell, and each Air Assault BCT has a Cav squadron/battalion.

UpNorth

OK, thanks Dave, I was just looking at the units listed on the first page I came to. Should have clicked again.

UpNorth

Speaking of 2-17AirCav, has anyone seen or heard from him?

Anonymous

There’s a fb page for his memorial which alludes to the fact that even a lot of the occupiers thought this guy was just scamming them. Even a blind squirrel, etc.

AndyFMF

Looking at his FB page I would guess that he is actually a recruiter who was supposed to recruit for 160th SOAR. He has a photo of static “Special Forces” display and an article (dated December 2010) discussing 160th recruiters……so he is totally S.F.

If you want to find him, I’d suggest looking for the name and for someone who was on recruiting duty in San Diego or recently exited Active Duty.

I’m not from that branch so I don’t know how it works, but that’s my $.02

AndyFMF

Re #11. Spoke too soon. His “pictures” were stolen from the Special Operations Recruiting Battalion facebook page. I vote for not really in the military.

cakmakli

I think he may have spent some in the Army awhile back but either got out or was kicked out. On his FB page he uses Spc4 (should be SP4) but that hasn’t been used in over 20 years. It was changed to SPC.

So, what we have here, is a gentleman with ties to our not so favorite marxist loving, “Veterans For Peace” group. He doesn’t turn up in the official list and another so-called VFP “vet” read “Fidlers Green” at a memorial service for this gentleman. Too bad the author of that story can’t do better research or the son of a biotch would’ve learned the title of the poem is “Fiddlers Green”, the dumbass. Must be Iberia Parish S.O. or another Po-Po agency in Acadiana are looking to serve a felony warrant on his ass. So he skips outta parish, goes to SD to serve teh hippies chow and prolly why he faked his death too…Where’s 1stCavRVN hiding? garryowen!

streetsweeper

In error….I present: “Fiddlers Green”.

Halfway down the trail to Hell,
In a shady meadow green
Are the Souls of all dead troopers camped,
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddlers’ Green.

Marching past, straight through to Hell
The Infantry are seen.
Accompanied by the Engineers,
Artillery and Marines,
For none but the shades of Cavalrymen
Dismount at Fiddlers’ Green.

Though some go curving down the trail
To seek a warmer scene.
No trooper ever gets to Hell
Ere he’s emptied his canteen.
And so rides back to drink again
With friends at Fiddlers’ Green.

And so when man and horse go down
Beneath a saber keen,
Or in a roaring charge of fierce melee
You stop a bullet clean,
And the hostiles come to get your scalp,
Just empty your canteen,
And put your pistol to your head
And go to Fiddlers’ Green.

CI Roller Dude

You guys need to watcht the “Men in Black” to see how this happens. He just pulls out the flash pin and “FLASH” memory is gone.

Hey Casey J. Porter…..This guy resides in your neck of the woods, Austin. https://www.facebook.com/jay.polk2. Been cruising his FB friends….Too bad I no longer live in Beaumont, TX. Might be real interesting since a couple of his FB high school buddies lived nearby….

streetsweeper

Yer a smartass, Roller Dude. lmao!

Doc Bailey

See what gets me is that these Occutards are in San Diego which is a BIG military town. That they would so easily but such a bullshit story makes me wonder.

Sic transit gloria mundi

Now,normally I don’t give a shit about phonies.only reason i read this is because the names of 4 people whom I served with back home,in the same battalion, were on the same article as him.I find that disgraceful

NHSparky

CC’s 2011 “Dummy of the Year” nadinbresinski writes (so to speak) for both the OB Rag and East County Times, neither of which is exactly the LA Times or OC Register.

Discussed (or disgust?) at length here:

Doc Bailey

“how did he die?”

“he died in action”

Well Sparky you’ve managed to dredge up a few geniuses.

This guy is a fake. We need to find him and fast I think. Why? Because:

1). It takes away from Occupy’s legitimacy and really that’s always a good thing

2). We really can’t afford more conspiracy theories about the war on terror. We’re still catching hell over Iraq.

3). If there are ops in Syria, this will send some wanna be PFC Manning searching for the “truth” to blow the whistle on, potentially killing real soldiers.

Are they in Syria? Its possible. But anyone whose spent a day in the Army knows OPSEC isn’t just a catchy acronym. Its a way of life, and if you don’t follow it people die.

teddy996

I say there should be a “Jay Polk Memorial Award” at the J MacB’s. Give it to the fake with the most unnecessarily complex and/or hilarious con game. It will be kind of like a Vezina trophy for dildos.

NHSparky

I dunno, guys–I’d say by looking at that picture at the top of the post, we’ve found Sgt. Spliff.

Take from it what you will.

S.G.

His Girlfriend seems so devastated by his death that she cant even mention it on her FB Page. She has Liked Bubblewrap though

Stubby

They should let OJ Simpson out of jail on “top secret special assignment” so he can find this guy. Orenthal James always gets his man.

DickS

Anybody think that he may have been a Police informant who just disappeared back into the ranks?

streetsweeper

@ #27-Dick? Yo! Don’t be a “Richard”, brau….

Marine_7002

@27 Not likely that he was an informant. Surveillance was being done by black helicopters instead…

The idea, when you’re a confidential informant, is to not attract a lot of media and social networking attention.

Michael Ponsler

I am a member of Occupy San Diego, a veteran and was the first person to openly question the Jay Polk Death rumor. I spoke with several other veterans in order to verify the reporting procedure in the case of “special forces” KIA’s. I did lots of research including calls to his hometown, school records, calling funeral homes in both his home town and in New Orleans where it was said his remains were to arrive. The man Occupiers knew as Jay Polk did serve in meaningful ways through food services for hundreds of San Diego’s homeless population in conjunction with Occupy San Diego. However, I was suspicious as soon as I was told this man was an active duty special ops MSgt. His stories did not add up and he seemed to avoid much contact with the majority of veterans. I did not attend the ‘memorial’ and encouraged the several members planning it to delay the service until a reliable confirmation could be established. Of all the calls and emails I sent to apparent Polk family members and friends not a single person replied. There were several facebook pages related to Mr. Polk with differing first names and employment info. The Jay Polk profile created around the beginning of OSD stated Army Special Ops, while another declared his employment in the oil industry. This man should not have been memorialized, but thoroughly investigated. While it was naive of many OSD members to react so quickly, it was not done maliciously. Most people do not know the process the military uses for reporting casualties and the folks that honored Jay Polk were moved by their experience working directly with him. Nobody plans to be scammed or to be misled. They trusted him due to his supportive actions in the first couple months of the Occupation. This is NOT an attempt by OSD to create a martyr. I believe it is a typical reaction of grieving. To cast dispersions upon OSD rather than seeing this situation as anything other than one man or perhaps a few people taking advantage of the… Read more »

Bottom line, Michael, so-called “professional” journalists (hah!) DIDN’T question his bullshit, and so far on another site, one of the posters has spoken/e-mailed the editor of the East County Times on several occasions, only to see them screw themselves into the ground from spinning so hard.

Lie with dogs, wake up with fleas, shit like that.

Scott

“Most people do not know the process the military uses for reporting casualties and the folks that honored Jay Polk were moved by their experience working directly with him.”

Michael, if I understand correctly, Veterans for Peace and a number of other military veterans were directly involved in the memorial, per the article here: http://www.eastcountymagazine.org/node/8382

Those people ought to know better, and if they don’t, it’s because they are willfully ignorant because it furthers their cause. I’m glad you weren’t fooled, but I hope next time a Jay Polk rises up from the muck, someone holds his feet to the flame and extracts the truth out of him before he runs around for three months playing Rambo make-believe and contributing to the public’s general ignorance of the military and veterans.

UpNorth

Michael, none of the members could take it upon themselves to go to http://www.defense.gov/releases/ ? They list every casualty, as just about any vet would know, these days.
But, no one was casting “dispersions” on OSD, however, it’s not necessary to cast aspersions on Occutards, it’s more like a self-fulfilling thing.

NHSparky

Jonn, with permission, I’ll forward to you the e-mails she sent to a mod on the other board on which I post.

Absolute hilarity, once you get through the bullshit.

Michael Ponsler

UpNorth, As I mentioned, I checked the DoD site repeatedly. I did a lot of investigating. I agree that a memorial should not have been held. I strongly encouraged delaying the service. However, going ahead with what they felt was right based on their personal trust in Polk after working closely with him does not make them ‘tards’. On the other hand your bashing of others for being deceived is equivalent to telling a rape victim she asked for it. Your focusing on what really does not matter in the long run is exactly how our government has managed to run away without the people. How about you spend some of your energy discussing the topics that really have impact on all of our lives? What is your personal pay-off here with this Jay Polk issue? How does it benefit anybody to continue harping on one minor error? I understand you have a thing against people who long for peace. It’s obvious that peace and mutual respect are not integral parts of your character. Bashing Vets for Peace and anybody willing to leave their TV’s for a the sake of redressing our government is an obvious sign of an unhappy and resentful life. In addition, I have little trust in anybody that hides behind screen names on blog sites.

Scott, not having attended the memorial service I cannot confirm that members of VFP were in attendance or involved in the planning. The few people I talked with prior in an attempt to delay the service are not veterans. The veterans I did speak with agreed that the rumor was probably false.

Again, our government is construing far worse lies and carrying out much worse actions against us, it’s citizens, every day. And I’m not just talking about police brutality against Occupy groups across the country. This story and others like it, are merely the sand so many stick their heads in to avoid the truth.

NHSparky

However, going ahead with what they felt was right based on their personal trust in Polk after working closely with him does not make them ‘tards’.

Uh, yeah, it kinda does.

Did you also know that the word “gullible” isn’t in the dictionary?

Again, our government is construing far worse lies and carrying out much worse actions against us, it’s citizens, every day.

You mean like the chemtrails? I hear vinegar and spray bottles work real well. That and tinfoil. Lots and lots of tinfoil.

Here’s a little quote for you and your VFP buddies:

“You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don’t ever count on having both at once.”

UpNorth

So, I “have a thing against people who long for peace”? Really? Nope, I do, however, have a “thing” against people who destroy property not their own, throw rocks, bottles and other crap at other people, “occupy” property that isn’t just for them to “occupy”.
And, “police brutality”? How about Occutard brutality? http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=28629
And, thanks for the analysis of my character. Mind if I return the favor? It’s obvious that you live in a never-never land of feel goodism. The life you seek has been tried, ever read of the Soviet Union?
“carrying out much worse actions against us, it’s citizens, every day.” Do you mean actually expecting students to pay for their education? Actually being able to afford the house they borrow money for? How dare anyone expect so much.
