SGT Travis Bishop, a Fort Hood, Texas soldier who thought that Victor Agosto had the right idea and decided to miss movement for his deployment to Afghanistan like Agosto was court martialed today. According to Courage to Resist, he was sentenced to a year in prison.

travis-bishop-jailed

That’s the only place I can find the outcome of the court martial, I guess they’d know.

Bishop thought he was going to get 30 days like Agosto, but Travis didn’t decide to miss movement until the day his unit pulled out, then he was AWOL for a week after they left. Agosto, on the other hand, made his intentions clear before his unit left. And Bishop made the mistake of blabbering about how he’d been inspired by Agosto. I guess that’s worth 11 months.

I’m sure that Bishop had been listening to his idiot lawyer, James Branum, who has successfully had each of his defendants imprisoned. Why those clowns keep hiring that doofus is beyond me.

More on Bishop at the Killeen Daily Herald.

Old Tanker

Why did he have to be from Ft Hood??? (I was 1st CAV there) dude deserved a good crotch stompin’…….man up buttmunch!

AW1 Tim

Now if they only had a spare cell at Bagram to hold him in for his year…

THAT would be poetic justice. 🙂

JuniorAG

How ’bout the trash pile at FOB Baylough… He could get shit-n-piss (latrine used plastic baggies) and mortar bombs rained on him at the same time!

Matt

Anybody else catch this diamond in the rough waiting to be found- “Pfc. Anthony Sadoski, who’s been in the Army for eight years, said he’d never heard of conscientious objectors until Bishop told him.”

An 8 yr PFC? WTF??

sporkmaster

8 years and still a PFC? Yea.

B Woodman

8 yr PFC. Could have been Nat’l Guard or Reserve. . . ?

Anyway. .

“Free Bishop Now” WTF!!(x2).
He signed a contract. He took The Oath. And he expects to walk out lightly after leaving his brothers (& sisters)-in-arms in the lurch because he didn’t want to go to someplace dirty & dangerious??
With that kind of non-thinking, maybe his unit is better off without him. At least now he won’t desert during battle.
But only 12 months. . . . If anyone finds him in the Ft Hood area, PLEASE give him a royal butt-stomping!! I’m no lawyer, so I don’t know all the limits of the UCMJ, but he deserves at LEAST 5 years hard time. And can a Special Courts MArtial give a BCD? GGGrrrrrr!

Old Tanker

He WAS an E-6, got busted back to PFC during the court martial…….

Matt

Why did PFC assclown get courts-martialed?

OldTrooper

Hahahahahahahahahaha!!! F-ing butt pirate needs to spend some time at the Kansas gravel factory, but we’re a kinder, gentler nation.

As for the rest of these idiots; in the words of Old Tanker: Man up buttmunches!

nucsnipe

Maybe while he is in, his prison friends will give him a prison tatto, either a yellow stripe on his back or a BF on his forehead.

sporkmaster

I wonder when he gets out if he will still feel “inspired” by Victor.

Old Tanker

nucsnipe

maybe they’ll tattoo some knockers on his back………

UpNorth

Or, “This side up” on his shoulders?

dutch508

only 12 months so he’ll do his time at a regional corrections facility and not the Green Monster…

…of course, the GM has been moved and rebuil(t) (-ding, and the construction continues)

Think all Conscientious Objectors cowards?

Would you call Franz Jagerstatter a coward because he refused to fight in the Nazi army even though it meant being executed?

At any moment he could have changed his mind but he had the COURAGE to stand up for what he believed facing a guillotine! When all his neighbors, his priest and even his bishop told him to think of his obligation to his nation, Jagerstatter thought of his faith, his moral code, and his children when he said “I don’t want my children to have a Nazi father” and as a Catholic I cannot take part in an unjust war.
Should this guy get a yellow stripe tattoo?

It’s easier to see for Americans that Jagerstatter was brave to refuse Hitler because (I hope) we all agree Hitler leading an immoral cause.

I’m sure if the SS had a blog in 1943 they would be posting words that differed from yours only in that they would be in German rather than English.

I’m sure we could visit an English newspaper archive and find an article from 1776 calling George Washington a disloyal traitor for putting his conscientious ideals of democracy above the law.

Disagree with Bishop and his opinions on war and religion, but don’t disrespect a man who acts on his convictions.

Had Bishop gone Afghanistan when it meant contradicting his conscience THAT would have been a cowardly act on his part.

REAL HONOR, my friends, does not come from doing what other people tell you or from acting out of fear or punishment. It comes from living out who you really are with your deeply held values and not violating the sacred honor of your conscience no matter the consequences.

I know you disagree with Travis Bishop, but it’s sick to see such insults toward a man of conviction and honor.

I pray you never have to face choosing your conscience or prison, but if you do, I hope you have half the balls and an eighth of the heart of Travis Bishop!

I think that the CO status gets abused to get out of things more then people would like to admit. You know that there have been cases where those that were executed for ‘treason’ are still considered traitors to Germany. His crime was not reporting a group that where socialist in his unit. Executed within a week. Yet he is still considered a traitor. Lukaschitz, who was then 24, was sentenced to death for “failing to report a planned act of treason.” A soldiers’ council based on the Soviet model had been formed in Lukaschitz’s unit. Lukaschitz had not wanted to join the council, but he also did not want to blow the whistle on his comrades. That was precisely the reason why he should die, ruled the Reichskriegsgericht, the highest Nazi-era military court for crimes of treason, on Feb. 3, 1944. A few days later, Lukaschitz was executed as a traitor by guillotine. The verdicts against men like Lukaschitz were never repealed. http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/0,1518,604076,00.html Also Germany executed 20,000 and how many have we? Once again there was not a blanket punishment for those that where in the German Army. Also not everyone was SS. Your missing the point because there where deserters on both sides and many were executed for it. Something that no one has face for desertion in our country since 1945. Also the British considered use traitors not deserters. http://books.google.com/books?id=Ro_HgTSn-wcC&pg=PA24&lpg=PA24&dq=george+washington+deserters+firing+squad&source=bl&ots=XtUMC32VLL&sig=_pjUVIE4v0H1J4YQroYbkEw-Ymk&hl=en&ei=ihOKSpZgw7WUB4PpgTQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=7#v=onepage&q=deserters&f=false I would not be as hard on him if he hand not decided to run the day before his unit left. No it would not have, because one thing should always be in a soldiers mind; the person to the left and right. If you not honor that, then why should I care about Travis. He has not honor because even though he talks about not wanting to hurt people, what does it say about him when he is willing to let his friends go into harms way alone. That is not honor. That is a betrayal. That is why there is CID and you will never have to because I doubt that you will ever have… Read more »

He was a signal Soldier. Of course Travis deserves what he got. He is a coward. A CO status granted to a soldier like him? Not even me. I know for a fact that Travis sat out his deployment in Iraq in a comfy A/C controlled office and his evenings having coffee and playing his guitar or video games with us, his “peers”. None of us judged him when he decided to stay for his “beliefs”. However we all were betrayed when he decided to ditch out on a team of specialists that he was supposed to lead out to Afghanistan. If he had chosen to deploy, he would have spent an entire year sitting on his butt in a shelter or playing guitar hero with his “peers”. I think he is a coward for ditching out on our teams, but I give him profound credit for taking the hard road. I decided to sit on my ass, play games, watch movies, and talk to my wife and collect $50,000+ for the year. He chose to sit on his ass, be told when to eat, when to exercise, have little to no contact with the outside world, and to be barred from most regular employment for life. He did not stand up for his beliefs, he shit on them. I hope he has a happy, calm life when he gets out. I hope I never see him with my own to eyes ever again.

Awright, federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison! (Apologies to “Office Space.”)

Old Trooper

Pelon; no, not all CO soldiers are cowards and in fact, a couple of them have been awarded the MOH. What’s your point? That he decided to apply for CO status the day he was going to ship out? That doesn’t cut it with me. Either you follow the rules and send it up the chain, or you get a year in the jug. What part of that didn’t he figure out in his years of service? He had already done a tour in Iraq and yet it was when he was scheduled for A-stan it suddenly became a problem? I don’t buy his bullshit story, unlike I suspect you do.

Pelon:
Godwins Law. You lose the argument, I award you no points, we are all dumber for having read it, and may god have mercy on your soul.

Roxdog

You’re all a bunch of fascist dirtbags.

2/17 Air Cav

@21. Newbie, huh? There are five distinct tiers here and fascist dirtbag is the entry level. You really need to bone up if you want to make a dent with this crew.

JBS

@21 It’s an all volunteer force. How could it be facism? He chose not to go thereby receiving the completely known punishment. Without discipline there would chaos. Plus, this is so two years ago.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

@ Roxdog … please tell us more about yourself (I mean the info we don’t know). We know where you are posting from … down to the block and lot and what type of equipment you are using, but particularly we would be more interested in: your branch of service; where you have been stationed; and other associated information.

BTW you can KMRIA!

Twist

@21, Shouldn’t you go occupy something?

Roxdog

Good for you! Now come and suck it you goose-stepping, America-destroying bootlicker.

Roxdog

You “patriots” wouldn’t know what America stands for If it bit your ass. You take an oath to something you don’t even understand.

PintoNag

“Goose-stepping”??? He obviously doesn’t know anything about OUR military.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Hondo …. paint the target … I am launching now … will standby for coordinates!

Roxdog

You guys will all continue to stand around and scratch your crotches in middle eastern deserts while your bosses continue to make plans for gun confiscations, warrentless highway checkpoints, and God knows what else….

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Hondo … I am running low on fuel!

Veritas Omnia Vincit

School get out early today? Somebody with a little extra time on their hands? Living under a bridge eating goats?

2/17 Air Cav

Hey Roxy. You’re going backwards. Goosestepper is the cadet program here. You know, for kids.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

VOV … ok … bridge eating goats … got it in sight … weapons aweigh … target destroyed … returning to base!

2/17 Air Cav

Okay, I’ll help you out. As I said there’s the TAH Goosestepper, the cadet program. For patriots, there is Tier one, the Fascist Dirtbag Level. Tier two is the Brown Shirt/JackBoot. That’s all I can share with you.

Ex-PH2

2/17 AirCav, isn’t that the Brown Jackshit Boot?

2/17 Air Cav

Intel, you know. Roxy hasn’t been cleared and there are many lurkers. Vee–uh–we, must be careful.

Hondo

Seems to be a mobile device this time, MCPO.

Gruntling

Loving the fact that little Roxy is either A) the stereotypical anti-government ‘they gonna take away everything I own, I’ll start a militia with Jeb in the swamp’ nutbag, or B) a spoiled, sheltered, soft little brat of my generation.

Can’t wait to get my Shirt.

Roxdog

Ha. Yeah, yeah. Keep arming Egypt and twiddling your thumbs while your boss turns every state into NY. Clueless jarheads….

Ex-PH2

OUR boss? I think you’ve mixed us up with the morons who are so lazy they want everything done for them from cradle to grave.

No one here has ever favored whatever drivel it is you’re babbling about.

Gruntling

Also, not a jarhead. Wrong branch there, buddy.

Roxdog

Yes, YOUR BOSS. Your “commander in chief”. You don’t favor it? Stop being a part of it.

2/17 Air Cav

You might have some redeeming qualities, there Roxie, but you have a very odd way of delivering your message. You might want to consider hitting the retsart button because if you persist with your rude manner, I am afraid hellfire itself may be delivered unto you.

malclave

@44

Hellfires? I thought they were just using drones.
