Near-Death Experience Research
You’ve either watched a documentary, read a story, or heard one. Someone dies, then goes up. He sees his body and the people surrounding him. Then he transits through a tunnel until he gets to a light. There, either a religious figure or a predeceased loved one greets him.
A common theme in these near-death experience scenes? That it was not time to “cross over” yet. The storyteller has to return. He or she has a “mission” to accomplish and it’s not done yet. The tunnel reappears, or the scene changes. The storyteller regains consciousness in the hospital, in the ambulance, or at the scene where they “departed their body”.
Here is a video of one such experience.
The website, “Near-Death Experience Research Foundation”, has additional stories like this.
During a virtual TAH subcommittee meeting of TAH authors, we threw some ideas around. A recommendation was put on the table… Expand on the topics posted here. We will continue to provide military, veteran, and relevant current events blog articles. Additionally, as soon as our Stolen Valor team has a stolen valor post to put up, those would go up.
In the meantime, while we’re waiting for stolen valor posts, we’re looking for ways to contribute to your reading enjoyment and welcome additional ideas.
Dave’s invitation for guest posts, from those who comment here, is still open. I will be glad to post your articles as a guest post. When you forward your article to the admins, request to have the article forwarded to me.

“Don’t fear the Reaper.” Interesting, thanks thebesig. 17 years of Naval flight, I’ve had a couple interesting moments, but nothing as described here.
Good post!
Not my day.

Better to prepare for an afterlife and find out there isn’t one, than to NOT prepare and find out there is an afterlife!
Ditto from the Texas Thunderbunker.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s not an oncoming train…
Your entire outlook on life changes when that happens.
It’s an amazing journey, but if it ain’t your turn, it just plain ain’t your turn…
It’s not survival of the fittest, it’s survival of whomever has the best Guardian Angel !!!
I had a series of experiences, after my late wife passed away, that involved the paranormal… Both during dreams and while awake. It was like getting a glimpse on what happens after we passed on. I would post more in the future related to this group of topics. My perspectives on life has changed because of these experiences. As for what the guy described: Souls he lived multiple lives with: Primary soul group. Ancient spirits: One of two things… His soul guide and assistant soul guides or… The counsel of “wise ones”. These are souls that work with our guardian angels. If it was the latter, then his guardian angel would’ve been standing behind him. The other souls that he saw, surrounding those that he spent the most lives with: Soul cluster. Lessons: Incarnated life… The physical world is a “school house” for our souls. They talked about how our physical world is an illusion. This is supported in our Bible, where gold and silver and other material possessions are described as “what would perish”, but our riches in heaven are “eternal”. We could “die with the most toys”, but when we get to the other side, having the most toys isn’t going to matter. It would be like waking up from a dream where we were rich, or were what we wished to be, just to be met by reality when we woke up. Those toys would’ve been just an illusion. What would matter is whether we “accomplished the missions” that we were supposed to accomplish here or not. Also, how we treated each other. When he said that God didn’t want us to worship him via Sunday services, this is something that’s also supported in the Bible. When King Solomon was building the temple, he had a dream. The message he received from God was that although the Temple was progressing in a way that made him happy, what God cared more about was people abiding by the commandments and his other words. The Temple symbolized more than just the temple itself, but religious practices. Books involving past… Read more »
5th/77th – in a nutshell, Pascal’s Wager.
If you don’t believe in and worship God, if there is no God you wasted nothing. If there is a God, you go to eternal torment and damnation. But if you believe in and worship God, if there is no God you wasted a bit of time and effort. If there is a God, you go to everlasting reward and salvation.
Therefore, given eternity as the stakes, it makes more sense to believe than not – if you believe, at worst nothing bad happens and at best it works well for you. If you DON’T believe, at BEST nothing happens and at worst… well, it sucks. Better to believe than not, eh? (Now, the Church said he was damned anyway of that was why he believed… humorless sorts.)
Very interesting new direction for the website. Is it too soon for me to send in my article on my Bigfoot experience and the worldwide search for the crypto-creature?
Send it.
Not really a new direction, rgr769. We’ll still post up the usual TAH fare on military and current events. That’s our bread and butter. We had some very promising ideas during our confab yesterday, so stick around. It’ll get interesting.
So, if it’s not a new direction, why the big announcement? “We are happy to tell ya there are gonna be some BIG changes around here, but not a new direction.”
Well OK. Standing by to see what interesting looks like.
That came out crankier than was intended. It was supposed to be a bit of teasing over the choice of the word “interesting” to describe what is coming.
Do whatcha gotta do to get through this thing. We’ll all be around.
Yes, what AW1 said above. We’re looking at adding additional topics into the line up, which would still include the posts we’ve been putting up for years.
I saw a bright white light with masked people
staring down at me. I thought I was dead.
Then I woke up in bed with a brand new hip and
a morphine drip.
Please, no voodoo/new age stuff. That silliness makes my brain hurt and is contributing to the astounding lack of scientific literacy in society around the globe.
How about articles about new tech, book reviews, discuss new scientific discoveries, etc…
Science and technology articles were identified as part of the upgrade. There’s one up now. Thanks for the input, penguinman000.
Thanks for the hard work keeping this place up and running.
I’ve gone through scientific literature. The vast majority of the population is not even familiar with what constitutes an actual science article… Nor do the majority possess scientific literacy. If you are reading an article on science, and you understand what it says, and it’s on a website that is commonly accessed, chances are that it is not scientific literature. As such, it is not peer-reviewed and is considered “garbage” credibility wise in scientific circles. Scientific literature usually has an abstract, introduction, literature history, methodology, results and discussion, limitations and directions for new research, and reference. Understanding a scientific paper, its results to include statistical testing and regression analysis, and seeing the direction that the authors are bringing their research, and what they intend for future research, is scientific literacy. One common trend in a real scientific paper: regardless of whether the research question is answered or not, we discover that there is a lot more that we do not know then there is that we do know. We laugh at what scientists use to argue was the case. However, some of what we thought was “scientific gospel” in the 70s and 80s have been turned on their heads. It turns out, for example, that the solar system is not the template for solar systems throughout the galaxy but an exception… There is even a possibility that Mercury is the core of what used to be a gas giant. Another example is the Ice Age cycle. There is a new theory coming up, that is gaining in the scientific literature, on the electromagnetic sun. This theory better explains the Ice Age cycle then the Melankovitch cycle does. A few decades from now, what we think we know scientifically could very well be turned on its head… And we would be laughed at for what we thought was the case. I’m familiar with “New Age” topics, the above post, and the posts along those lines that I am looking at posting in the future, do not fall under the “New Age” umbrella. In fact, past life and between life regression hypnotherapy… Read more »
Edgar Cayce.
I’ve been to Virginia Beach to the Association for Research and Enlightenment.
I’ve read many books about Edgar Casey.
I cried.
It’s a shame we have two few truly truly enlightened individuals that have walked this earth while we are around.
They are out there and are a lot more common. I recommend reading Doctor Michael Newton’s books, Journey of Souls, Destiny of Souls, Etc.

(*Smack!*)
Science and technology dollars flow when
the public creates a demand. They don’t
care how it works, just that it does and at
a resonable cost.
The dreaded military industrial monster is
in fact where all these technological
marvels are discovered. Try and tell the
public that their tax dollars for war
mongering actually brings them all the
modern toys they demand and you might as
well have been talking to a fire hydrant.
I’ve always thought DoD did a crappy PR job on that front.
thebigsig-I wasn’t advocating to turn this place in to a journal. What I was suggesting is discussing things like the “spooky effect” (much cooler name than entanglement) or the double slit experiment. That is a rabbit hole that can melt people’s brains.
As far as past life regression therapy goes, we can agree to disagree. This paper kind of sums up how I feel on the topic https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5797677/
And yes, I agree all things science are an ever evolving field. The difference between science and “new age” is science attempts to disprove findings. The fact we can look back just a few years and realize how ignorant we were (and why we were wrong) is glorious to me.
New age stuff tends to be founded on belief. A realm where there is frequently no appetite for asking hard questions or not accepting dogma as truth.
All that being said, I’m not going anywhere and I’m not the one expending the effort to keep this place running. It wasn’t my intention to come across as “that guy”. Just trying to give my input.
I’m grateful you and others are putting forth the effort. Thanks for all you do.
If you guys have clear skies, the moon and Venus are in the west, in the Taurus Constellation. Venus is real bright (it’s in the process of overtaking us). Orion and the dog constellation are also in the area, the dog star also visible. You could also see Auriga and Gemini.
13 yo, fell asleep in the tub, walked halfway down the hall towards 2 figures, one on the right said, “go back, it’s not your time.” Didn’t understand, kept walking. He repeated, “go back.” Woke up under the water. Still don’t take baths. But that wasn’t the only time. When I had the H/K flu in 67/68 Dec/Jan. Lost from 60lbs to 30lbs, had a series of out of body experiences because frankly, couldn’t breathe. But I learned to control it pretty quick, leaving my body meant it could just maintain without me panicking over not being able to breathe. Obviously, I made it. Took 30 days of my Mom’s care in that unheated attic room. South Chicago. She did pretty darn good. Tell you, was the 2nd time Dr’s said I was a goner, that’s why I trust them so very ….little.
You should read Jack London’s novel about astral projection, “The Star Rover”.
Thebesig- what was it K said: ” Just imagine what we will know then?”
Robert Monroe also wrote a book on the topic. I remember reading it in high school.
Another book to read is “Journey of Souls”, and its sequels written by Dr. Michael Newton. He did thousands of hypnotherapy sessions where he brought people back in time… To an early part of their current life, to when they were in the womb, then to a past life.
He was mainly a past life regression hypnotherapist until he “ventured down the rabbit hole”. He asked his client what happened right after he/she died in that past lifetime. He wasn’t the first to do this. But, he kept asking for what happened after that point.
This lead to his stumbling onto a new form of regression hypnotherapy. The account described in the video above showed up in the responses. Then he brought the client beyond that point.
Thousands of clients went through this type of hypnotherapy, the same pattern emerged among all of them. They didn’t know each other or the results of the other client’s sessions. He, and his students, wrote other books that followed his original book on the topic.
Others have followed in his footsteps, and they’re getting similar results from people who don’t know each other.
I’ve had those as well, spontaneously. Even had some where I saw myself sleeping. The chances of this happening goes up when my sleep is interrupted and I couldn’t go back to sleep for a while. In one instance, I had fallen asleep, then found myself with my “face close to the ceiling”. I shifted my view and saw my bed, me on it, and everything in the room.
I delivered papers when I was a teenager. I got up real early during the summer vacations, deliver papers, then got right back to bed. Was having these every day. Lots of flight, sense of relief, more sense of freedom than when I was awake, and a sensation that can’t be completely described with words in our vocabulary, etc. Sometimes there’s the paralyzing “wind tunnel effect” in the beginning.
Many experience this and don’t realize it. A common experience happens after a loved one passes away and they see that loved one. Usually a “vivid dream” and the survivor thinking of the loved one’s death the same way they’d think of a magician’s illusion tricks on stage.
Had a family friend die three weeks ago of cancer. His wife said that the night before he died, he kept telling her about the “light”. So there may be something there.
My dad used to laugh about his “near death experience”. Happened in 1960. Dad had a seriously bad sinus infection but wouldn’t do anything about it. Had an engine failure on a flight and got stuck at Eilson for a couple days. He figures since he’s stuck, might as well go to the doc. Doc shoots him full of penicillin, turns out dad had developed an allergy and breaks out in a rash. Doc says no problem, and shoots him up with benadryl. They quickly discover dad’s even more allergic to benadryl. As in stop your heart allergic. Dad says he didn’t see any light or tunnel. He said it felt like somebody hit him with a bat, he woke up to see the doc standing over him yelling “don’t move you sumbitch, you just died on me!”

I can offer the weekly trivia column as a regular post rather than a hit on the WOT if that’s agreeable. I write for six newspapers and can offer up opinion pieces as well …
Or I can just keep sending trivia to the WOT and otherwise keep my yap shut. Whichever you prefer.
Just one opinion, but my vote is in favor of your column. I so enjoy it, but sometimes it gets lost in the bulk of the other comments. Good stuff, and worthy of a stand alone post.
Thanks for offering! Sure hope the guys whose votes actually count agree.
