Young Ones Nickname COVID-19 as “Boomer Remover”

| March 15, 2020

Not everyone, who uses “Boomer Remover”, is doing so for humor purposes. (The Donald Win)

Some of the Millennials, and some Gen Z, have adapted a coronavirus nickname to slam Baby Boomers. This trend, which began last month, labels the coronavirus as “Boomer Remover”. In addition to the elderly’s vulnerability to this virus, there is a political undercurrent to this nickname.

The older generations tend to vote conservative. On the Democrat side, they are going for Biden instead of Sanders. In the general election, they tend to go for the Republicans. So, instead of the label that some conservatives use, “Wuhan Virus”, some of the Millennials and Generation Z are opting for “Boomer Remover”.

From Newsweek:

Boomer Remover has since become a battleground for generational warfare on social media, frequently couched as a natural consequence of how the Baby Boomer generation has treated the planet or approached politics–either an unfortunate outgrowth of the more conservative brand of politics suggested by Baby Boomer voting demographics relative to Millennials and Generation Z, or a deserved comeuppance for damage done to the environment and/or social fabric. In response, Boomers and Boomer defenders have used the trending term to decry young people’s alleged dependency.

The younger generations appear to want to blame the Baby Boomers for environmental destruction. By extension, “Man-Made Global Warming.” This virus, some of these young ones claim, is nature’s response. A wave of “Boomer Remover” memes have been generated.

You mean 1%-er Bernie? The Millionaire? With the Billionaire backer? That Boomer?

When I first saw the above cartoon, I immediately thought the character on the left was a depiction of our fave Bernie Bro.

Comm Center Rat

I though that was Dr. Rachel Levine, the transgender Pennsylvania Secretary of Health! LOL

akpual

Yep,looks like him/her/it. A shrink on top of it.

A transgender shrink? Why do so many in the mental health field have mental health problems themselves?

HMCS(FMF) ret

They go into that field so they can “fix” themselves…

They are not all dysfunctional crazy.

I have known two who seem “highly functional” and no more othereise weird than a dozen other geeks I know. Very successful professionals, in other words.

We need to avoid too broad a brush.

I’m a 37 year old native of San Francisco, and I’ve been around plenty of trannies in my life. What I have observed over the years is that more than 90% of them are bat$hit crazy speed freaks. When they do a shot of methamphetamine they turn into sex obsessed perverts with a criminal mindset. Anybody who’s is familiar with the TL (tenderloin for you non San Franciscans) knows exactly what I’m talking about.

Interesting that these morons want the virus to kill off the generation that works / has worked hard to provide all the money the govt has taken to provide the free shit these basement dwellers rely on ti live.. they don’t seem to realize that if they get their wish, and all the conservatives are killed, they’ll starve / freeze/ whatever to death, because there are no adults with any actual life skills around to provide for them.

I gotta admit, “boomer remover” is kinda funny.

What’s going to be even funnier is when the youngsters are older and the whippersnappers then point the finger at them for everything that has gone wrong.

It never ceases to amaze me on how people continue to point fingers instead of attempting to make thing better.

Next time a youngster starts in just say “you’re welcome for OSHA and the EPA. Now thank me for my service.”

In a few weeks when Millennials endure Coronavirus induced mass layoffs in the service sector, they’ll run, not walk to their parent’s Boomer Bank for a cash infusion.

And those not already there will be moving to back to “Boomer” basements and spare rooms. That barrista money only goes so far when there is rent to pay. But when there are few or no barristas needed, well. Wonder how many Starbucks employees will be turning in their aprons and Sharpies.

Just got a haircut from my local barber (he is open on Sundays for appointments). This past week he has had zero walk in business in his shop, and he has six chairs and five independent contractor barbers working with him. He said he thinks this thing is going to tank many small businesses and professions that depend on walk in customers and clientele.

Being generation X
We always seem to fall under the radar
Why is that

Roh-Dog

Middle children of history man.

Ret_25X

try being in the 1960-64 cohort. We are classified as boomers, but are not. We are a generation of “tweeners” between the boomers and Xers…

We watched the depression generation build the world, watched the boomers declare it to be oppression, then watched the gen x get screwed by the boomer truth regime that required two job families to support the welfare state.

Bernie and Biden are both examples of the people who lived on the work of others their entire lives and believe it is normal to do so.

Fahqem…

Roh-Dog

Nailed it!

SFC D

Spot on, SGM. Born in 62. Parents were depression kids, dad served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. None of us 4 kids fit the “boomer” mold.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Ditto with myself and my sister (she was born in 66).

Poetrooper

I’m a barely “Pre” Boomer who is on Social Security. Years ago I did the research and calculations that showed, based on my contributions and those of my employers, that I would be far better served now had the system been privatized rather than operated as a Ponzi scheme by the federal government.

Not only would I be better off, so would this country. Imagine the almost incomprehensible scope of the per capita wealth of America if all those now on social security had hundreds of thousands, even millions, tucked away in investments providing them a far better annual income than they now get from the government.

As for the anti-Boomer movement, these young fools should realize it was the Boomers who gave birth to the hippie/anti-war movement of the 1960’s that produced all their leftist college professors and all this current “woke” insanity.

The Boomers also were the driving force behind environmentalism and the anti-manufacturing and anti-fossil fuel movements.

It was Boomers, who, with youthful idealism, embraced the spirit of feminism and the civil rights movement, giving birth to their precious “diversity.”

It was the Boomer Generation that made it possible for homosexuals to exit their closets.

Boomer idealism caused the current homeless crisis by opposing conventional treatment of mental illness.

Boomers brought us the drug culture, first through the widespread acceptance and usage of marijuana in the 60’s, then the other drugs that followed.

I see the Boomers as a silly, self-indulgent generation, too many of whom squandered a wonderful legacy handed to them by preceding generations. And that makes me see the anti-Boomers as a bunch of clueless fools who don’t realize the ties between themselves and the Boomers. They wouldn’t have all this wonderful “wokeness” they so cherish if it weren’t for the Boomers.

Of course, it’s all about the money: Social Security created before the Boomers were born, and Medicare, created by the Greatest Generation when Boomers were in their twenties.

Poetrooper

By the way, for all the Boomers and borderline Boomers like me here at TAH, I do not mean to disparage the entire generation, many of whom have led responsible admirable lives, building on and improving what they were born into.

But the sad truth is, too many fellow Boomers did not. It is also a sad truth that, busy in our own lives, we let the irresponsible ones bring us much of what I outlined above.

Conversely, we are also the ones, along with our children and grandchildren infused with our traditional values, who have continued to keep this country on a somewhat even keel. they are our contribution, our legacy, who will be the saving grace of this republic if it is to survive.

timactual

I recall reading some years ago that there are a few entities that never adopted social security and have had their own retirement systems. Perhaps in Texas or the TVA or some other New Deal creation. Since those non-SS retirement plans actually had to be actuarially sound they were in better shape and paid better benefits than SS.

Funny how things like that never seem to find publicity like all those “new” things that get exposed every 20 years or so because everyone has such short attention spans.

rgr769

The city of Galveston, TX has their own alternative to Social Security and it has done monumentally well by comparison.

Those of us dependent on Social Security are going to be in world of hurt in about 12 to 14 years when we may get a cut to our benefits. But if the progs have their way, we will all be dead by then anyway.

11B-Mailclerk

Folks in Chile have a private retirement system. They are the best-off retirees in South America.

Compare them to US “Social Security”. … Then get annoyed with our decision for a government system.

” social” is a negative inverter. “Social studies” isn’t. “Social security” isn’t. “Social justice” isn’t. “Social contract” isn’t. ”

“Socialism” is “isn’t-ism”.

Hell, they are just pissed cause us Boomer Babies drove the coolest cars, grew up on the best music, had the classiest leading ladies, and the truly funniest TV shows. Classiest leading ladies? Gonna have to back that one up… your comparison standards are Myrna Loy, Katharine Hepburn, and Claudette Colbert.

5th/77th FA

The leading ladies was not a reference to those ladies that were born as boomers, but more so the ones we watched on TV/Movie screens as WE were coming of age. That list would take days and days to write, and would include all of the ones you mentioned, plus the likes of Liz Taylor, Natalie Wood, Betty White, Jayne Mansfield, ect ect ect ect ect ect ect ect ect ect ect

Veritas Omnia Vincit

We all saw the comments from our resident leftie here regarding Karma’s Justice on all of us shitty boomers.

Those comments are hardly unique to him.

Hey maybe you get your wish and it takes me out, maybe it doesn’t. I’m guessing based on my health I’m gonna be okay.

The independent voters are watching right now. They see these comments from those like our friend here and try as they might to spin their words after the fact the independents know what was meant.

Those words smell a lot like a socialist solution to a great many problems. End the lives of those with whom you disagree… That works okay as long as you hold all the power until your own demise.

The so called big tent party once again revealing its intolerance and hate for it’s fellow citizens.

It’s a bold move in an election year, we’ll see if it pays off.

I work in a subsidized housing complex full of older people and a majority voted for Clinton over Trump, so these sickos who want the older generation to die off had better be careful what they wish for.

I guess I’m safe being born in 1945 and being named the silent majority. Reason I was born that year was because my Dad didn’t go over seas and return in 1946 where the name Baby Boomers originated.

It’s going to hurt those of us who rely on interest income to offset our IRA required minimum distributions, by causing a faster draw down in our savings principal. For those hoping to live a long life, that’s not good news.

My late grandmother who lived to 100 and my mother who is now in her mid-80s, both effectively used CD interest to supplement their retirement income. There’s always comfort in guaranteed interest.

Here’s some sobering fun with numbers. If your investment portfolio loses 30% you’ll need a gain of 43% to get back to its initial value. A 40% loss will require a 67% gain to reach initial value.

As a retiree, I’m scared of market volatility. I sold all my stock mutual funds and went to a cash position in late February. My losses are minimal year to date and I plan to sit on the sidelines through the end of this quarter. I don’t suffer from Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) only the fear of running out [of money].

Guernator got annoyed because younger people went out for a St. Pat’s Day celebration over the weekend. Livid, he was. I keep hoping he’ll blow a gasket some day.

Recent stats on this:

Infections
COVID-19: Approximately 156,400 cases worldwide; 2,952 cases in the U.S. as of Mar. 15, 2020.

Flu: Estimated 1 billion cases worldwide; 9.3 million to 45 million cases in the U.S. per year.

Deaths:
COVID-19: Approximately 5,833 deaths reported worldwide; 57 deaths in the U.S., as of Mar. 15, 2020.*

Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.

Out of a population of 7.7 billions, Covid19 can’t hold a candle to the flu. Both are respiratory diseases, and both can be fatal but the Covid-19 bug is weaker than the flu bug and is NOT killing everyone it hits.

Comm Center Rat

Just my 2 cents worth as I hunker down in my compound: I think there are far more than 2,952 cases of infection in the US. Lack of testing kits nationwide keeps the numbers low. Some epidemiologists project at least 250,000 to 500,000 Americans are already infected with COVID-19 and estimate that upwards of 1,000 Americans will die daily at the height of this pandemic. Historically, it takes three months for a pandemic to end so I think the worst is yet to come.

David

1000 daily out of 330,000,000, call it 20 per state. Correct?

Comm Center Rat

Correct. 1,000 daily doesn’t sound like much in a country of 330 million. But depending on the length of the pandemic, the death totals could easily surpass the 12-60K that die in a typical flu season. And, of course, the VA still projects 22 veterans on average will continue to commit self-murder daily.

11B-Mailclerk

A politically neutral way to play down the craziness:

“It’s not a ‘pan-demic’. It is a ‘damn-panic’. ”

Be not afraid. Let not your hearts be troubled.

Or as a WW2 vet said;

“You call -this- a ‘global crisis’? Hmph… “
