Five Stabbed at Hanukkah Celebration
Grafton Thomas entered a Rabbi’s home in order to attack people there who were celebrating Hanukkah. His chosen method of attack was a machete. He went around chasing after people, managing to stab five of them. He wasn’t finished when he stabbed people inside the synagogue, he went after them outside the synagogue.
From CBSN New York:
“He took out his knife, sword from a holder and started hitting people back and forth. Nothing, he didn’t say anything. He screamed after me when I came out here, he screamed after me, ‘Hey you, I’ll get you,'” one witness told CBS2’s Marc Liverman. “He moved to the front door. He could go straight into the kitchen and the dining room’s the first thing. First, he went into the dining room and hit a few people there. Then he went into the kitchen and hit one guy there, and then he came back to the dining room.”
“I ran into the other room because I tried to save my life. I saw him running down this way, so I ran out and two ladies came along with me. They’re still hysterical,” witness Aron Kohn said.
This is one of the elephants in the room in the gun debate. If gun control was intended to make people safer, how do they explain things like this occurring? As you guys have pointed out repeatedly here, people with evil intent will find a way to commit that evil. What is needed is someone with a weapon at the right place and time. Not more words.
New York’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, presented a speech in response to this attack. In addition to comforting those affected by this event, he talked about proposed actions. Instead of providing more talk, perhaps he could look to Texas and other Second Amendment friendly states for a practical solution.
This will not eliminate the problem. However, this would serve as an additional deterrence. The threat of a violent response does have an effect on someone’s decision making.
CBSN New York has more on this story, including a video.
Perp identified in NY Post article with picture.

Amish in a MAGA hat?
How about this ‘lady’? Arrested for hitting three Jewish women, released without bail, then promptly attacks another woman. Thank god she isn’t white, because we’d be hearing that “Trump caused it” for months…
https://nypost.com/2019/12/29/woman-accused-of-assaulting-3-jewish-women-arrested-again-day-after-release/
It being Nooh Yawk, I’m sure that the perp will likely get a slap on the wrist and a forced apology from the NYPD for arresting him. Anyone pulling that stunt in my part of Red State America would get their ass gracefully ventilated from different directions at once!
Anyone want to figure the odds that the “knife” wielder (it was reported to be a machete) was a convert to Islam? Perhaps in prison??
I know, I know – slap me upside of the head for being soooo rasiss.
For the record – I don’t give flip if he was/is agnostic, Argentinian, or maybe even Mama’s little angel, he committed heinous crimes and should be appropriately punished for it – after proper prosecution and conviction for same. Use the “hate crime” aspect of this to help determine his sentence, but file charges against him for assault, battery, attempted murder and whatever else they can sling at him.
Was this a machete free zone?
We must pass sensible machete control laws. These are nothing but assault style knives and who needs an assault style knife? And this was a concealed machete, being as it was in a “sword” case. I’ll bet it even had a scary black strap attached to the handle. Background checks on all machete buyers. Machete buyers should only be allowed to purchase these assault knives if they are employed in the sugar cane industry or in the jungle clearing business. Those workers and people that harvest pineapples and bananas would be exempt. What if this had of been a school instead of a group of war mongering Zionists? The horror!
I do hope everyone keyed in on the sarcasm in my comment. What we need is swift, sure, painful, public, long term punishment for the people that commit these violent crimes. Just one good guy with a firearm could have stopped this. Who was it that said, “An armed Society is a polite Society”? Somebody put this dirtbag up to this crime.
Not sure if he originated the phrase, but IIRC, I first read it in a RAH book “Beyond This Horizon”.
I always enjoyed his books as much for the background society, as much as for the action story itself.
To quote an old college buddy from back in the 60’s,” Folks was a lot nicer to each other when everybody carried guns”.
Too bad this wasn’t one of those perp bringing a knife to a gunfight incidents.
People’s Republic of NY has gun control to limit Democrat voters experiencing that.
Forgive me, but perhaps there needs to be a correction to the title of this post :
“Five Stabbed at New York Synagogue”.
Additionally, a correction to the first paragraph in this post:
“Grafton Thomas entered a synagogue in order to attack people there who were celebrating Hanukkah…He wasn’t finished when he stabbed people inside the synagogue, he went after them outside the synagogue.”
All other news sources state that the stabbings occurred at the HOME of Rabbi Chaim Rottenberg, NOT inside a Synagogue.
The Rabbi’s HOME is located NEXT DOOR to his Congregation Netzach Yisroel Synagogue.
Am thinking CBSN made an error on reporting the story, even though they reported that Grafton Thomas ran into a dining room and a kitchen.
The picture included in their article also shows a yellow two-story house.
Machetes Don’t Kill People. People Kill People.

OT: Shooting at a Fort Worth, TX church this morning.
https://kfor.com/2019/12/29/church-shooting-in-white-settlement-texas-leaves-three-injured/
Update on tomorrow’s FGS.
I just watched a newser on this attack. The shooter opened up in the subject Christian church during the service this morning. He was promptly shot dead by two church members. No info yet on the dead perp. One worshipper was KIA and another is in the hospital with likely fatal wounds.
A Church of Christ in a Fort Worth suburb of about 17k fine folks.
In the video the first victim shot was standing up to access his firearm – using a small-of-the-back holster I believe – and was very slow getting into action. The perp nailed him at about 15′ with the shotgun.
The perp got another shot off, and then another member of the congregation shoots him dead (mortally wounded – reports are he died at the hospital) at about 25′ with his pistol. Then other members of the congregation move toward the now-down attacker with pistols drawn.
The dead congregant gave his life defending his brothers and sisters in Christ. I’m sure he heard “Well done, My good and faithful servant” when he arrived in Heaven.
The perp, not so much.
Perp is finding out the Devil don’t provide K-Y
And is finding out what BCoS means, first-hand…
Much like the flag burning post above this one, He just disagreed with their political and religious beliefs, Good on him for acting on his beliefs.
Plan to add anything meaningful to the posts, or just play the troll? I personally would appreciate a reply one way or the other. Saves us all some time.
Give Lars’ Creepy Uncle the benefit of the doubt, avoid the rush, and bounce his ignorant ass now, Ed. I doubt he’ll ever add anything to the discourse around here.
Much like the back yard skunk, he’ll just roam around and eventually really stink up the place.
Yes, by all means, “bounce” an opposing viewpoint. See my reply to AW1Ed.
There is a way to make an opposing viewpoint that doesn’t involve impugning other people as the main theme of the comment.
Well, some folks wanted a sockpuppet for chewtoy purposes.
I think pointing out the hypocrisy of some here as meaningful. Whether or not I disagree, or more often than not, agree with the posters. How can asking someone to think about the opposing side of the argument be anything other than good?
If your reasoning is sound, it will withstand scrutiny.
Call it trolling if you will….
It would be “meaningful” if the people identified as being “hypocrites” were actually such. They were essentially accused of wanting to wish harm on those that they disagree with. This isn’t what I got from reading the other comments.
The comments that you posted did not come across as asking us to think about the other argument. That is something we have to do anyway in order to craft our rebuttals. We understand their argument, and why they are protesting the police. Then, a sequence of events occurred that resulted in them taking action that contradicted their philosophy.
The others here are calling it trolling as the wording used indicate such. Plenty of assumptions were made of the others here. Then, you posted a comment that a reasonable reader would conclude is a trolling post.
YourCreepyUncle:
“Good on him for acting on his beliefs.”
Bet you would not say that if it happened to YOU or your relatives/love ones, friends.
Bet you are making those comments to get a rise out of folks or to instigate trouble (some folks THRIVE on intigating trouble or get a cheap thrill by creating uncalled for arguments).
Did I nail your personality, Creepy Uncle?
Or should I say T-R-O-L-L.
I feel sorry for you. Bet you are bored right now and need to get a boost to your hormones by making snarky comments such as the one you posted.
Another Attention “Look At Me!” Seeker.
*yawn*
😉😈😎😆😁
Such people are commonly known as “shit-stirrers.” One of their favorite games is what I call “Let’s you and him fight” (about the bogus issue I just raised, so I can stand back and watch).
I think he just posted to stir the pot and one day Karma will make him lick the spoon!
I didn’t realize that the /sarc tag was needed in this crowd. I assumed that the relative intelligence here would high enough to ‘see’ what was happening….
Maybe instead of looking for “Another Attention “Look At Me!” Seeker.” you might try looking for what exactly is so triggering that requires the “meaningful response” that appears to be wanted around the joint.
A couple of things work against your “I was being sarcastic” defense. We rarely see you comment on these threads. As in, you are not a regular poster who has posted enough for us to be able to get a baseline.
There are others here who make sarcastic posts, and we could tell that they are being sarcastic. We know this, as these posters have left a track history of the kind of comments they make.
The second one is that giving your posting infrequency, using the “/sarc” to trail the sarcastic portions of your post would have allowed us to see that you were being sarcastic.
Without these two, and without really knowing your baseline, a reasonable person would look at your initial posts here and assume that you were being a troll.
Troll….
You’re comparing attacking church goers with a machete or shooting them with some bikers who kicked over a grill and rescued Old Glory from being burned?
Ok…
He failed his application for Employee of the Month at the Aloha Snackbar.
He’s been barred from Brucie’s Bath House (Entrance in the Rear) until his past due account is paid in full!
So you’re advocating murder?
This is an inductive fallacy. You misinterpreted the comments in the other post and then decided to play the hypocrite here that you accused us of being in the other post.
Let’s get some facts straight. He trespassed (given his intention) and then proceeded to stab people. They escaped, he proceeded to go after them. Those celebrating Hanukkah were not trying to circumvent the law or break it. They were doing what they wanted to do given their beliefs.
If any comparison was to be made, the intent of the celebration was religious. Naturally, this event would have made them pray. This is consistency.
The folks in the other post? They protested the police. They did so by disrespecting the flag via circumventing a local law that prohibited them from burning the flag. They provoked, got a response, and then took a course of action that contradicted their own philosophy. One, the value of the police officers. Two, the validity of the anarchy philosophy.
Just how are these individuals, who identify themselves as being under the anarchy umbrella, going to get by under real anarchy? They demonstrated, through their actions, that they advocate a non-practical philosophy.
Their actions, in response to the bikers, explains the need for police officers to be armed, and for the need for law and order. In the last decade, this would have been described as “self-pawnage”.
“You misinterpreted the comments in the other post and then decided to play the hypocrite here that you accused us of being in the other post.”
Minor disagreement there, besig. He didn’t misinterpret anything. He deliberately twisted the comments.
Please see my response RE: the /sarc tag.
And ‘disrespecting’ the flag is not a crime, and a flag burning ban is unconstitutional as it is protected speech.Minor points I know.
As for the actions of the anarchists after the fact? Pussies for sure. maybe some of them now realize the need for LEOs.
Please see my response, above, to your “/sarc tag”. Nobody is arguing that disrespecting the flag “is not a crime”, nor are they arguing that it is “unconstitutional”. One minor point that you are missing is that them burning the flag, the way others normally burn it, would have violated other laws that apply to burning things.
Meaning, it would not have mattered if it was a flag, or something else, there was a law that prohibited burning things. That is the law that they circumvented.

How do you stab someone with a machete? A machete is designed to be swung sort of like and axe .
Yeah, I’ve been wondering about that, too. A machete is a slashing tool designed for cutting, not stabbing. The end of every machete I’ve ever used wasn’t even sharpened on the top and frontal edges.
More uninformed reporting–they don’t know any more about machetes than they do assault weapons.
Most of the ones I have used have a single edge, up-swept at the tip to the spine. There is somewhat of a point on it, and one could make a stab with it, although it is far from optimal for such.
Assuming “incompetent” and/or “nuts”, he may very well have tried stabbing his intended victims. This would have reduced considerably the damage he was able to inflict.
The reporter may have also been incompetent.
“And” is also a possibility.
Until we see a photo of the “machete”, we won’t know what the weapon is. It could be some type of sword. Only a so called reporter is telling us it is a machete.
Watch how Jason Voorhees kills using a machete in the Friday the 13th film series.
Guess who is patrolling the Jewish neighborhoods… the Guardian Angels:

I hope they at least are carrying some baseball bats. They are a pretty good counter to someone armed with a knife or machete. Guns would be the best, but those are out of the question in New Yawk, lest one wants to spend time at Rikers.
I have fond memories of listening to “Curtis and Kuby in the Morning” on WABC 770-AM in NYC. Nobody looks better in a red beret and red satin jacket than Curtis Sliwa! LOL
Grafton Thomas, the knife-wielding attacker at a Rabbi’s Hanukkah party, is said by his family to have a long history of mental illness.
https://www.foxnews.com/us/suspect-in-hanukkah-attack-outside-new-york-city-has-history-of-mental-illness-family-says
If so, then why was he not under supervision by them? Not doubting that there is some truth to that claim, but why no supervision of his activities?
