Mad Mullahs: Iran has outflanked US since 1979 revolution

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran’s supreme leader said Sunday that his country has outmaneuvered the United States in the four decades since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Iran has “trapped the other party in the corner of the ring in many cases,” adding that U.S. aggression toward Iran has only grown “wilder and more flagrant” over the years. Khamenei was quoted on his official website in a speech to thousands of students, a day before the 40th anniversary of the U.S. Embassy takeover in Tehran.
Tensions have been high between Washington and Tehran following U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision over a year ago to unilaterally pull out of the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and other world powers. The U.S. has sought to roll back Iran’s influence across the region by imposing sanctions and providing military and other aid to its adversaries. Those sanctions have kept Iran from selling its oil abroad and have crippled its economy. Iran has since begun breaking terms of the nuclear deal.
Khamenei, who has final say on all state matters, repeated his opposition to talks with the U.S. In October, he had said negotiations with the U.S. would not take place unless Washington returned to the nuclear deal by lifting its sanctions.

Somebody else who likes to play bad-ass by trotting out boxing metaphors is Nancy Pelosi. She even keeps a pair of boxing gloves on display in her office to apparently memorialize all the tough “fights” she’s had in Congress. Last August she made the following comment in a speech to the DNC:
“You’ve got to be ready to take a punch,” Pelosi said. “And therefore, you have to be ready to throw a punch. For the children. Throw a punch for the children.”
Which could well be where the Ayatollah came up with his snarky “trapped the other party in the corner of the ring” gibberish. Khamenei and Pelosi are probably on the same bad-ass poser Twitter feed…

I entered active duty the day he was sworn in. I held my reenlistment until after the 1980 election to make damn sure I would never have to serve under him another term. By contrast, the Reagan years were the best of my military life.
Not saying that the Shah’s skirts were clean, but is the average Iranian “man on the streets” better or worse off than they were in Oct of ’79? Looking at the pics in the link that Roh-Dog provided seems as if the people were prosperous and happy. Guess someone thought they would be better off by turning the clock back 1200 years.
Jimmuh coulda, shoulda, woulda, had oughta nipped their crap in the bud when the Embassy Hostages were taken. That was not the FIRST (HT to Roh-Dog) time that we learned you could not deal with these people. Stirring up their other enemies in the region did no real good. All of those people have been killing one another for thousands of years anyway so that was nothing new. There was talk in some circles back in ’79 that the takeover of the Embassy was encouraged by some of the deep staters we had then just to give poor old Jimmuh one more problem to contend with. There were lots of folks that were pissed at him for knocking their chosen one out of “his turn.” Says a lot for a political party that would prefer to have an alcoholic murderer for their candidate v an unknown peanut farmer. Again, I digress.

Left in early part of ’79 after the State Dept ordered the tens of thousands of American personnel to leave. Incredible pandemonium at the airport. I think it was one suitcase allowed per person. The American School of Tehran that I attended closed it’s doors in Dec 1978 after 25 yrs of operation. Just sadness. Deep funk for a while after coming back to the States.
