Person Who Fatally Shot Man, Wounded Teen in Long Beach Was Acting in Self-Defense: Police

by Nouran Salahieh
A person previously arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of a man and the “unintended” wounding of a 17-year-old who was passing by during an altercation will not face charges, authorities said Wednesday.

The shooter, identified only as Bryant U., was detained Aug. 13, 2019, on suspicion of fatally shooting 25-year-old Ruben Lopez and wounding a teenager, the Long Beach Police Department said in a news release.

He was later released from custody after investigators determined he was acting in self-defense when he fired his weapon during an altercation with Lopez on July 1, 2019, according to authorities.

Bryant U. was with two other men when they were confronted by Lopez and his relative at around 8:40 p.m., police said.

“Lopez initiated a physical altercation with a member of the group, then turned toward Bryant.

84-Year-Old Man Shoots Would-Be Home Invader in Dallas
Repeat victim says he would not let it happen again

By Eline de Bruijn and Ken Kalthoff
An 84-year-old repeat robbery victim shot an attempted home invasion suspect who tried to break into his home early Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a residential street near Loop 12 and Interstate 35E around 1:30 a.m, Dallas police said.

Neighborhood crimewatch leader DeRouens Mitchell praised the victim for taking a stand.

“If more people would shoot at the robbers or invaders, they would think twice about breaking into their homes. ‘Hey this person may be armed,'” Mitchell said.

The victim said police seized the gun he used to compare it with wounds to a man who police found later at a hospital.

Oklahoma Police Open Fire On Homeowner
Police fire several shots into Oklahoma City home, narrowly missing homeowner, after power outage triggers burglar alarm.

by: Cassandra Sweetman
(KFOR) In the chaos of late-night storms Monday, Oklahoma City police were called to a house on an alarm check…and shot at a man who turned out to be the homeowner.

“When officers arrived, they went up to the front door, knocked on the door, somebody from inside approached the front door with a gun in his hand,” said Oklahoma City Police Capt. Bo Mathews. “The officer stepped back and started shooting at this individual.”

That’s not exactly how the homeowner, Mike Williams, said he remembers it.

Williams said he was sitting in his darkened living room with his gun at hand, ready to protect his home from unwanted intruders.

While he was sitting there, he said a flash of lightning suddenly lit up an officer from behind.

“It went from nobody on my porch to somebody on my porch and within the silhouette, I could completely see a gun,” Williams said. “I didn’t hear him declare who he was. If he did, I didn’t hear it.”

Williams says he gave a warning and saw a flashlight cross the room. That’s when the shooting started.

Slim pickin’s today, Delta Whiskies ans Whiskettes, but a couple examples of poor weapons handling. Also, don’t threaten an old man. He didn’t get there by being stupid, and will just kill you.

The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the high powers” delegated directly to the citizen, and `is excepted out of the general powers of government.’ A law cannot be passed to infringe upon or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the lawmaking power.” [Cockrum v. DFW; “…shoot at…” Should be “…shoot INTO…” FIFY

Glad the LB Lopez story worked out. Coulda gone the other way for Bryant U.

That M&P .45 with the knife bayonet has some really nice cutting edge technology but I wouldn’t wear it on the small of my back.”OUCH”. The picture is also Knifely done.

Thank you RGR 4-78, I do try.

Helpful Medal

I wish you guys would post more of the stories where people are killed by their own guns, either because someone overpowered them and took it away or through sheer negligence. Those are the best ones. Imagine how stupid you must feel laying there dying knowing that you purchased the weapon that killed you.

HM there is a mechanism in place here for commenters to post stories. I’m sure that AW1Ed would appreciate any and all the help he can get. He is a fine fellow, for a squidly swabbie, and will put up with a fairly big ration of crap. When he snatches the yellow and black striped on your a$$ is when you know you have phuqued up. Keep in mind that the posters are volunteers, they have day jobs, and a life outside of TAH.

And most of us don’t even mind when there is a repeated story, we appreciate what they do.

Did anybody get to watch (go) Army get all over that other team like white on Rice? (snicker)

Under “feel good stories”? Seek Help.

Just Lurkin

Helpful Medal was on another thread saying how we should execute drug users for a third offense. But, I guess, if a drug user takes your weapon and uses it to kill you (as opposed to, I don’t know, choking you to death or something), that’s a “feel good story”.

NHSparky

Because that’s the greatest source of gun deaths…

Fucking moron.

David

HM – such a story is newsworthy. Please share some from your no-doubt extensive collection? Oh, wait…

That being said, he may not be the advocate of executing druggies… I have been known to suggest that dealers be put down like mad dogs, too.

Toxic Deplorable Racist B Woodman

Looks like AW1Ed followed RAH’s advice about stealing material and filing off the serial numbers…..even if said stolen material is from himself.

Don’t mess with old people. They are already
staring down death and will shoot you dead.

David

WTH is that gun supposed to be? Looks like an airsoft copy of a Python with that extra round whateveritis below the hammer spur.

David

Have read of Korths, never shot one (unsurprising, if they still cost several times what ‘normal guns do). Don’t remember that round dohickey.. cosmetically, doesn’t do it any favors. Surprised they are still in business, in the days when a M19 cost $300 and a Python $400, the Korth was $1200. Thanks for setting me straight!
