Police: Fatal Muskegon Heights shooting ‘likely self-defense’
MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — A person was killed in a shooting Saturday in Muskegon Heights in what police believe was an act of self-defense.
It happened around 1:30 a.m. on Jefferson Street near Barney Avenue.
Police said two people were sitting in a vehicle when an armed suspect entered and announced it was a robbery. However, both people inside were armed and opened fire at the suspect after they fled the vehicle.

PD: Phoenix veteran help catch man who entered 2 houses, sexually abused woman
PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — A man is in custody after he entered two Phoenix homes and sexually abused a woman early Monday morning, according to police.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department said a man entered a home through the unlocked front door near 28th Street and Osborn Road around 4:30 a.m.
“I woke up to find a guy standing at the foot of my bed staring at me,” said homeowner Gage Underhill.
Underhill told Arizona’s Family that he was awakened by one of his dogs when the incident occurred.
Underhill later pulled out his handgun and confronted the man, later identified as Francisco Meza-Beltran, causing him to flee from the home.
“I am a retired military law enforcement officer,” he said. “I always keep my handgun and so, I lit him up. and I told him that he needs to get out of there and he bolted.”

Man shot, killed in Muskegon Heights

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, MI – A man was killed in Muskegon Heights early Saturday, and police say the shooting likely was self-defense.The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. July 13 in the 2300 block of Jefferson Street near Hovey Street, said Muskegon Heights Police Chief Joseph E. Thomas Jr.
“All the evidence points to self-defense,” Thomas said.
He said the man was shot by a male “victim.”
Thomas declined to release the name of the man who was shot. Friends identified him as QuaDreckis Brooks, 22.
