WASHINGTON — A White House decision to dispatch an aircraft carrier and other military resources to send a message to Iran followed “clear indications” that Iranian and Iranian proxy forces were preparing to possibly attack U.S. forces in the region, a defense official told the Associated Press.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive information, said the Pentagon approved the deployments and that U.S. forces at sea and on land were thought to be the potential targets. The official declined to be more specific.

White House national security adviser John Bolton said in a statement Sunday night that the U.S. is deploying the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the U.S. Central Command region, an area that includes the Middle East. – Military Times article

The full story is here:  https://www.militarytimes.com/news/your-military/2019/05/06/lincoln-carrier-strike-group-other-resources-dispatched-to-middle-east-due-to-possible-attack-on-us-forces-source-says/

The article indicates that both SecState Pompeo and WH Security Advisor Bolton have  spoken recently about Iran’s recent efforts to poke the Eagle whenever possible.  Pres. Trump’s sanctions against China and others for buying Iranian oil have been tightened recently.

As we have no ships in the Persian Gulf now, this precautionary move seems to be just that. The Cold War may have ended, but that left a gap that Iran seems to want to fill.

Patton on Iran and modern warfare, etc.:

Nothing says you care like 100,000 tons of freedom parked off of one’s coast.

That saying (and photo) made my Monday. Wished I have hopped on here earlier today.

If iran is turned into a parking lot, I will put in a bid for the asphalt/tar, rubber galoshes and the Denoble cigar concession.

Why does Iran insist in trying to compete with us? Do they think they can do better than the Soviet Union?

This is strange. They must know the capability gap between their armed forces and ours. Their aptitude doesn’t make sense. I can only think of two possibility:

1) They are REALLY religious fanatics that think their Mahdi is coming to destroy the Big Satan and the little tiny minuscule Satan.

2) They are bluffing. Very dangerous against the current occupant of the racisss whitey housey. The Evil Capitalist Pig in Chief is definitively not mas understanding, compassionate and sensible as the old supercool Community Organizer of MisChief.

3) They are really stupid and don’t realize how big is the capability gap is in our favor.

“Boast” culture. They have to talk big.

We, on the other hand, can point to things like a fleet of carrier battle groups unmatched anywhere, an Army that crushes conventional opponents, and bootprints on the Moon.

What else -can- Iran do besides proxies and bluster? If they cross an ill-defined line called “war”, they cease to be a nation. And they know it, and they -hate- that.

It’s pretty easy to maintain your track on the stupidity vector when your cultural mantra is: “If it is Allah’s will”.

Trump’s sanctions are biting hard- they must be pretty desperate to consider overt military actions against us and/or our allies.

That needed a spew warning. Luckily, chowlock was empty when I read that, so keyboard saved.

Would be nice to get a defecting Tomcat crew with a belly full of AIM-54’s. I fear the Navy is so in love with stubby-legged aircraft that they’ve forgotten what a fleet defense fighter looks like.
