UPDATE: Gunshot incident deemed ‘justified self defense’

By Liz Beavers
SHORT GAP, W.Va. — A gunshot incident that started as a verbal domestic dispute Wednesday was determined to be a justified self-defense shooting.

According to a spokesman for the West Virginia State Police, officers responded to the incident, which had escalated from a verbal domestic to a physical one, at approximately 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at a residence on Plum Run Road near Short Gap.

Officers said a juvenile within the residence had attempted to leave when the dispute escalated and call 911. Upon exiting the residence, she reported hearing two gunshots within the home still occupied by two males.

Upon arrival, members of the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department and Keyser Detachment of the West Virginia State Police were able to take the shooter into custody while the wounded male was treated.

The wounded male, who was reportedly wounded in the right leg, was ultimately transported via Trooper 5 to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. A landing site for the helicopter was set up at Frankfort High School.

Members of the WVSP CSRT (Crime Scene Response Team) responded to the residence while other members interviewed the juvenile who had called 911, as well as the male responsible for discharging the firearm. Police said he was fully cooperative with them in their interrogation.

Fatal North Charleston shooting may have been self-defense, officials say

By Gregory Yee Gyee
A shooting that left a 19-year-old man dead in North Charleston may have been self-defense, authorities announced Thursday.

The investigation into the shooting that claimed the life of Henry Trey Norris on Tuesday night is ongoing but detectives believe Norris may have tried to rob someone which sparked the shooting, Spencer Pryor, a North Charleston police spokesman, said.

“Investigators believe the shooting may have been a result of the deceased victim attempting to rob a male subject and gunfire being exchanged between the two,” Pryor said.

The male subject of the robbery attempt has been located and is cooperating with police, Pryor said.

Employee shot man who tried to rob Cleveland cellphone store at gunpoint, police say

By Evan MacDonald
CLEVELAND, Ohio – An employee shot a man who tried to rob a Cleveland cellphone store at gunpoint Tuesday in the Union-Miles neighborhood, police said.

Amhad D. Jones, 25, threatened to kill the employee before being shot just before 8 p.m. at a Metro by T-Mobile store on Harvard Avenue at East 93rd Street, according to police reports and court records.

Surveillance video from the store showed Jones point a gun at the employee before being shot, police reports say. The employee, who said he acted in self-defense and has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, is not facing criminal charges, police said Thursday.

I wonder what the odds are that the T mobile employee will be fired for using a hand gun in trying to protect his own life????
