Just as the sun is not red or orange, it’s also not yellow. One way to test that? Look at the moon during a clear, cloudless, night when it’s high in the night sky. It doesn’t appear yellow. The sun actually looks white, but takes on a yellowish hue as it “reaches” a certain angle from the horizon… Just as it turns orange or red when it “reaches” a lower angle above the horizon.

Thanks, Pat. Yes, my sister died 29DEC and my SiL died about 10 days ago. My brother? I don’t know what to make of the situation. He has income (SS) of less than $1k a month. Steadily ‘borrowing’ from me. Hopelessly addicted to Lortab and Fentanyl. Won’t ask for help b/c he knows his supply will be cut off. As soon as he admits to the VA or civilian doctor that he is addicted, his supply is gone. That’s fine, provided they start him on Suboxone (sp ?) immediately. I’ve heard there are not enough words to make someone understand what drug withdraw is like. So, he’s scared to stay on the narcotics and afraid to come off them. I don’t have an answer. He is sick … really messed up spine, hips, ankles, etc. He has rods holding damn near everything together. He’s not a candidate for future surgery. Doc says his condition will not improve. He can’t walk in the grocery store. He rides a scooter. He is in bad shape. Any suggestions much appreciated. He’s got major problems that have no easy answers. If so inclined, please pray for him.

Easter
A man is driving along a highway and sees a rabbit
jump out across the middle of the road.
He swerves to avoid hitting it, but unfortunately the
rabbit jumps right in front of the car.
The driver, a sensitive man as well as an animal
lover, pulls over and gets out to see
what has become of the rabbit.
Much to his dismay, the rabbit is
the Easter Bunny, and he is DEAD .
The driver feels so awfulthat he begins to cry.
A beautiful blonde woman driving down the highway
sees a man crying on the side of the road
and pulls over.
She steps out of the car and asks the man
what’s wrong.
“I feel terrible,” ! he explains,
“I accidentally hit the Easter Bunny with my car
and KILLED HIM.”
The blonde says,”Don’t worry.”
She runs to her car and pulls out a spray can.
She walks over to the limp, dead Easter Bunny,
bends down, and sprays the contents onto him.
The Easter Bunny jumps up, waves its paw at the
two of them and hops off down the road.
Ten feet away he stops, turns around and waves
again, he hops down the road another 10 feet,
turns and waves, hops another ten feet,
turns and waves, and repeats this again and again
and again and again, until he hops out of sight.
The man is astonished.
He runs over to the woman and demands,
“What is in that can?
What did you spray on the Easter Bunny ?”
The woman turns the can around
so that the man can read the label.

Hello all. While I was browsing Facebook, I found this two-part article by Keith Patton which he had posted in a group titled WARSHIPS!. It talks about different solutions on how the United States Navy can increase it’s fleet to 355 ships and become more combat capable in a quicker and more efficient manner. I was wondering on what your thoughts on it are. The author is a part of the Facebook group WARSHIPS! of which I am also a member though I don’t contribute much. He believes the US should invest in more conventionally powered submarines specifically the Japanese Sōryū-class submarine rather than nuclear powered submarines.

Does the US really need that many ships? Do we have enough personnel to man those ships?
And the total costs?
Maybe I read too much into the article, but got the impression it would benefit more to shipbuilding companies than to our nation as a whole. Will reread the articles again.
Do we need more ships? Yes. A big reason for multiple USN ship collisions with loss of life in the last years was due to the high tempo maintained by the current fleet, which doesn’t have enough ships to meet all requests/requirements to maintain a presence on the seas and train with our allies. If we stop projecting forces we become less credible overseas and those we court as allies or regional partners may turn to someone else. As to how we crew them, that’s a different matter entirely.

Am rereading the articles that Cameron provided and trying to think nautical missions since I am Army.
This is how I feel about the situation: I honestly would rather the Navy be kept at around at least 400-450 maybe 500 for peace time so there’s plenty of ships for patrolling wile others are in reserve or otherwise out of service for whatever reason (such as repairs or routine maintenance). However, if I had to shrink it, my preference would be no lower than 350 but I would NOT let it drop bellow 300. That’s a roll of the dice I am unwilling to take. Especially with China and Russia. That’s a dangerous game of catch up.
Cameron: You and Prior Service have good points, especially when it comes to the other two nations.
Again, just curious about the costs and manpower for the size. And again, I speak from ignorance when it comes to operations and warfare over the sea since I am Army and think in terms of land warfare.
Appreciate you educating us on this.
Don’t know if the Air Force has the same perspective when it comes to Air Warfare and our military mission (do we need more aircraft)..
Also, keep in mind that it takes a long time to build a modern ship, even if conventionally powered. We could not “ramp up” quickly if there ever was a global war.
That’s why I would not let the number below 300 if I had my way.
When I joined the Navy, there were more than 500 ships in the fleet. During the post-Cold War draw down, the number was significantly reduced. Unfortunately, the global commitments that required the fleet attention went up rather than down. This contributed to the “more for less” variable that negatively impacted retention in the 1990s.

Speaking of things changing from how we do things on earth, Muslims tend to pray in the direction of Mecca. I wonder how they’re going to do things when we set up colonies on the moon, Mars, and the rest of the solar system… And even at the neighboring solar systems.
The direction, and time, would need to be based on the direction they calculate earth to be at the time of prayer.

Attended the official San Diego Cambodian New Year event Colina Del Sol Park last Sunday. It was nice to see an immigrant/refugee community who actually appreciate the country that took them in.
The food was good, as was the live music. My oldest daughter enjoyed the traditional dancers and is interested in learning. My wiseass Sister-In-Law (as opposed to my wife’s identical twin and the other two) tried to get me into some of the activities, but I correctly suspected that she was trying to set me up as the subject of the pan-Asian cultural tradition of “Let’s All Fuck With the White Guy” and declined—my Father-In-Law decreed her attempt to be not cool, and I have since vowed revenge.

Good news on the cancer, brother. The cold that’s been going around here is brutal. Mine migrated into a bacterial infection in my sinuses and lungs a few weeks back. Had me stuck in bed for three days. Lots of fluids and rest.

This is key.
This happened in my state. As soon as Harris fled the store, he ceased being a threat. I remember seeing a segment, in the news, about something similar. I believe it may have also occurred in this state.
In this segment, the person associated with the store, being robbed, or about to be robbed, shot at the person that was going to rob the store. The person fell and stopped being a threat. The person with the firearm kept firing anyway.
This person was convicted of murder. Simmons might see the same results.
And he didn’t report it? They have to piece it together AFTER finding the guy shot up and dead?
Yeah, that doesn’t look suspicious at all.
I think that was the case that had store video showing the store clerk/owner repeatedly shooting the robber as he lay prostrate and wounded on the floor. The video proved the bad guy was no longer a threat.
In Florida, that’s considered a bad shoot and most likely jail time.

Just watched a NatGeo special on a drug known as Krokodil. It’s popular mostly in Russia but has shown its head in the US. It is a horrible drug, made by mixing codeine with other substances.
The following is from Drugs.com.
“Desomorphine, known by the street name krokodil, is an opioid derivative of codeine. Like heroin and other opioids, it has a sedative and analgesic effect and is highly addictive. Those who inject these caustic agents into their veins can develop extreme skin ulcerations, infections, and gangrene — a discolored (green, grey, black) scale-like skin that resembles a crocodile, hence the street name “krokodil”. Krokodil is also called “Russian Magic”, referring to its short duration of opioid intoxication (euphoria).
Krokodil is reported to contain desomorphine, a synthetic morphine analogue synthesized in the 1930s. Due to illicit, home-based manufacturing it may contain other unknown ingredients. It is typically abused via the intravenous route. Desomorphine is a Schedule I substance in the U.S., meaning it has high abuse potential with no accepted medical use.
Homemade versions of the drug start with codeine, and can be ‘cooked’ similar to illicit methamphetamine (“meth”) production. Organic solvents such as gasoline, paint thinner, or lighter fluid, iodine, hydrochloric acid, and red phosphorus (from matches) are used in homemade synthesis. These dangerous chemicals are not always fully “cooked” out of the concoction when used to make illicit krokodil. Krokodil also refers to chlorocodide, a codeine derivative in the synthetic path to desomorphine.”
Google has pics that will turn your stomach. This stuff eats off the user’s flesh down to the bone. Look at that list of ingredients.
I’ve read about that and seen pictures, one of which featured where all the flesh had just peeled off of a man’s lower leg leaving nothing but exposed bone. It’s been said that one only has about a year or two to live once they’re hooked on that!

Got an unusually high number of threats via phone today. Two from the IRS told me the ‘IRS Police Special Enforcement’ was parked outside the house. They had a warrant and were going to arrest me for not paying my taxes.
Three others were advising me that my Mac was compromised and I should not use it. I was to call xxxxx and, for $$$, they could fix the problem.
Anyone but me get these calls? They prey upon the elderly and unsophisticated. Scum

Whenever I get a tab that supposedly claims to be from Microsoft, I take the number down, close the browser, then go to my emails. I find the scams, send a response let them know to call the number in the email to get the answers that they’re looking for. Introducing scammer to scammer.
I get them all the time. The caller is usually some douche who has a heavier East Indian accent than Apu on the Simpsons. They always say their name is “Bob Johnson” or some other totally white-bread name and rattle off some fake badge number. I used to like to fuck with them, but it is a waste of time and brain cells. There are some funny videos of a guy who screws with the fake computer repair douches.
CLASSIC, I’d love to meet up with everyone who took part in making that and buy them a round!

He must have missed those catch a predator episodes with Chris Hansen. He obviously doesn’t have the smarts to be teaching anyone anything at the Air Farce academy.
This is so sad, considering this 74 year old did not have to die.
He was smoking while using an oxygen tank…and his wheelchair caught on fire.
Wonder if the nursing home will be blamed…or sued.
Or should he have been responsible for his own actions…

I wouldn’t be surprised. The new Navy is very political, and very heavy on the clique/pretty boy club, as well as on the “yes” culture, etc. The lack of discipline that’s evident isn’t surprising either.

Given how the ranks were purged during the previous Administration, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if the proverbial “Good ‘Ol Boy” System has turned out to have infected all branches like that.

The Washington Post has a story that President Trump instructed the main U.S. Envoy who retrieved Otto Warmbier to pay the North Koreans $2 Million Dollars to pay for his medical care while Warmbier was being held in North Korea:

Well, the bill was supposedly for medical care which Otto obviously didn’t receive, so let’s hope it didn’t get paid.
