Happy Hump Day TAH! We’re halfway through the week on a day called Spy Wednesday. This is the Wednesday before Easter Sunday. If you live in an area that still has snow on the ground, you probably may not need to color the eggs.
The above photo is that of a Malabar giant squirrel. This is its real coloring, no photo shopping done on my part. The photographer managed to get it at the right angle, and lighting, to highlight its colors. Here is another photo of the colorful squirrel from another angle:

This isn’t the only color combination that the squirrel comes in. You can find these in India. Like squirrels in North America, these squirrels do tend to forget where they bury their nuts and seeds. Result? A new tree. I have some pine saplings in my backyard, courtesy of the squirrels you’re more familiar with.

I love squirrels. I usually have a dozen or more scurrying about my back yard. At the local dog park there is an albino squirrel … 100% white.
If I see no squirrels in the yard, I know there is a hawk somewhere, scanning the yard for his next meal.
The lady behind us feeds the squirrels so it is not unusual to see more than a dozen.
The red birds are out in force. Those in my yard are an awesome vibrant blazing red.
Everyone be safe.
My sister raised two orphaned babies. One of them would come back to her porch and sit in her lap for years.
Tree squirrels are good to have around. Ground squirrels are a destructive pestilence.

I like squirrels, fried or stewed with dumplings. The damned little tree rats steal my pecans and black walnuts. The cats are so well fed they want get ’em and Trixie the dawg runs herself ragged chasing and not catching. I really, really, really need to break down and get me either a .17 or .22 and start wearing their little asses out.
Oh, and BTW, yeah I support what dTrumpster is trying to do and putting not only America, but also Americans, FIRST. And too, FIRST Lady Melania is hotter than a $2 pistol.

There are some truly remarkable air rifles out there, that pack a formidable punch.
I have an Diana RWS 34 Break barrel Rifle .177 and I’ve had it for more than a decade. I have a scope on it. I’ve killed 4 or 5 groundhogs that have tunneled under my deck with decent head shots. Now it’s probably from inside the house out the bathroom window (10-15 yards?) because as soon as the sneaky fuckers hear me, they dive for underground cover. I haven’t seen any this year. (Thankfully) I think it’s about 1100-1200 FPS.
Roger all that fellas, got a trip planned to go by Academy, hopefully tomorrow or Friday. Been taking pot shots with my slingshot, prosecute to drive away v kill. One of my Lady Friends has a soft spot for the little fer’s so I been a little lenient. Got about a 60% success rate with it. Time to get serious with their asses tho.
Trixie and little Chap Man have fun chasing but no real success on catching. The cotton pickin’ chipmunks, moles. voles, whatevers tunnel everywhere, so the puppies are digging up the yard like all hell.
The struggle is real.

That squirrel looks like it attends that Hindu festival Holi where they throw colored chalk all over everywhere and themselves as well.
In my neck of the woods there was a Cooper’s hawk standing in the bird bath today, which they do for some reason. Also called a Chicken Hawk, they prey on any small bird – which they drown in a pool after catching them. So standing in the birdbath means it was probably practicing. Sad news is we won’t have much in the songbird line around the house this year.
In other open thread news, some members of that stupidest of all political parties, Republicans, have introduced their own Green Nude Eel, which is basically Occasional-Cortex’s with nuclear power thrown in. Lamar Alexander (aka Hedley Lamar) wants it to be another “Manhattan Project”. As opposed to AOC’s “moon shot”. Big diff….

Being totally disabled, I seldom leave my apartment, except for being transported to and from medical appointments.
So, when I’m not solving crossword puzzles on the Internet, or lying in bed (i.e., I spend a LOT of time in bed), I enjoy watching movies on AMAZON PRIME or on NETFLIX (I’ve stopped watching broadcast or cable television).
I’ve notice there are no current movies about the Viet Nam War, but instead, all of the current war movies are about Afghanistan and Iraq.
The war in the old Republic of Viet Nam is now ancient history, and nobody has any interest in it.
(Being a “STAR WARS” fan, I love using the term, “the old Republic”!)
Not only do I enjoy reminiscing about “the old Republic”, but I also get a kick out of the irony of history having repeated itself.
In the 1860’s, the North invaded the South, my ancestor fought for the South, and the South lost.
In the 1960’s, the North invaded the South, I fought for the South, and the South lost.
And now, all of us Viet Nam War veterans are fading away, with so many becoming ill and dying many years before they should.
Here in Vernal, Utah, I only know one other Viet Nam War veteran, who served in the United States Navy aboard the “USS HASSAYAMPA” off the coast of Viet Nam, and his current physical deterioration is even worse than mine.
There are other Viet Nam War veterans here, but I haven’t met any of them.
When I was in Viet Nam, surrounded by other soldiers, it seemed like all of America was there with me.
But now, I sometimes feel like I’m the only one who went to Viet Nam.
It can be a very lonely feeling.

But unlike you, he never went on a combat mission in his life and has now scammed the VA out of 750K and nobody will do anything about it! Stay true brother, we are all praying for you!
Uh, let’s not give him more credit than he deserves. When one is a radio repair tech at a large division base camp, one does not go on “combat missions” unless you call occasionally pulling bunker guard a combat mission. Our division and other large base camps were so secure that none of us carried any weapons whatever when we were inside them. Admittedly, I did not serve in the 101st Airmobile Division, but I served in two other infantry divisions, so I know who did what in division level REMF support units.
Um, Wilted Willie, don’t know if you know this, but JRM has been wearing in public for years the US Army Air Assault Badge…and he never went to an Air Assault School.
He also wore the Infantry Blue Cord in public…and he was never Infantry.
He was Signal Corps, a 31L20, a Field Radio Repairman.
Nothing wrong with being Signal.
It would be nice if once in a while, JRM would stay on the topic thread instead of talking about himself. Or show symphathy to others folks who on TAH have it worse than him.

This story has been recently featured on the Army Times and the Washington Post. The story is about US Army SFC Kai Waters, a Black Female Soldier stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky who was involved in a road rage incident this past February with a 56 year old White woman in the Elizabethtown, Kentucky area. She has been charged with a Class C Felony Assault because she used a knife to stab the other party in the leg during a road rage altercation…a ceremonial knife that she claims was given to her by her Soldiers when she was a Drill SGT at her previous duty station, Fort Drum, NY. If one researches her name, one may see that there are some in the Black community who do not care for her. Evidently, while she was stationed in Korea in 2015, she posted on her Facebook account that she was AGAINST the BlackLiveMatters movement and on that same posting, she supported BLUELIVESMATTER. She has been compared to being a Candance Owens wannabee. She spent three days in jail. Her Chain of Command is supporting her. Her trial is tomorrow. The same news media who is covering this story has asked the question: Does the Castle Doctrine apply to this incident? “The Castle Doctrine allows deadly force if someone comes into your home or a car you are in and if you fear serious bodily harm from that person. A couple of years ago I was alone at work one weekend and there was nothing going on so I was outside feeding a squirrel pasticcios. At one point the squirrel was sitting on my hand eating and let me pick him up. I took a picture and sent it to my kids who immediately started calling me the squirrel king. I hope the bat was an old Louisville Slugger like we had back in the 50’s (1950’s not 1850’s for you young smart asses), aluminum one would have bent when it struck the D/A’s head. Oh well another one learns that a bat beats fists, should have put him down but at 300 lbs he has a lot of fat there to absorb some of it. All I can say about the Army versus Navy is that we have one of our recon planes flying at 10,000 ft taking pictures for when they come to town, wonder if them flat lander’s ever played up in high country.
Oh in case you wonder the altitude there is 7,258 feet, if you get winded in Denver you gonna have problems at the Academy as Denver is a short 5,280
