March 13 – National K9 Veterans Day
Today is officially recognized as National K9 Veterans Day.

These dogs are great. The last dog I owned was not only a talking dog, but was also a mathmatical expert. one day I asked the dog what is 2 minus 2, and the dog said nothing.
Jeff, Jeff, Jeff…
What are we going to do with you…(you did, however, make us laugh)…
😉
Thanks Pat, I should have mentioned the K-9 being trained decided to take a rest on the grass and the lawn mower took off some of his fur so the Army said he was now Defurred from serving.
I saw a veteran dog out on the street corner with a sign that said: “Will work for food.”

Will always remember and salute SGT Stubby from World War 1:

Earning one wound stripe and three service stripes, SGT Stubby has been recognized as the greatest War Dog in our Nation’s history. According to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, he was the first dog ever given rank in the U.S. Army. His glory was even hailed in France, which also presented him with a medal.
Thank you, Steve, for remembering our 4 legged comrades.
Tanks for the linkie on SGT Stubby APat. Had a rescued brindle Pittie that I lost to cancer a little while back. Macy acted aggressively to folks on the other side of the fence, but once you were introduced to her, she was a big ol’ lap puppy. Down to 2 canine furries right now, an abandoned old man parti poodle and a sho ’nuff mixed breed hound dog girl. The 2 of them help keep the 3 cats honest.
The Nebraska State Park owned and operated Fort Robinson Historic Site in Crawford NE was a big K9 Training facility during WWII. They have a real nice display dedicated to the pups.
Thanks for this post Steve. Wonder sometimes on what the numbers of troops saved because of a K9? Dogs are like most Mothers….That whole unconditional love thing. I’ve had fur babies of just about every breed out there at one point in time or another. For the last 30 some odd years I have concentrated on older rescue dogs. They seem to really appreciate that you have saved them from a bad fate. We gotta look after children, old folks, and critters. They can’t take care of themselves.
A Salute and Thank You for Your Service to all of the Military, LEO, and First Responder K9s out there.
I just read an article in the slate criticizing the movie True Lies. Apparently that classic action movie from way back in the 90s is sexist, racist, anti-muslim, etc etc.
I think it was James Cameron’s best movie. Avatar, aka dance-with-wolves-in-space is overrated in my opinion.
And this has what to do with dogs?
Bandit. Best dog ever.
Old Yeller. Not a K-9 but a real American hero.
Rin Tin Tin. Calvary dog.
Cavalry…idot.
What is it Lassie? Timmy fell in the well again? Good girl!
Grampa is stuck in the mine shaft…again.
Sgt Preston’s dog “Yukon King”.
