Secretary of the Air Force Heading to UT At El Paso
Our own Poetrooper sends us this article about Secretary Wilson’s departure from service to her country, to another type of service.
Insiders were blindsided by her departure. So who fills her seat in the Pentagon?

WASHINGTON: When I asked Heather Wilson last week if she was going to become the next Secretary of Defense, she shot me a particularly enigmatic smile on the way out the door. Now we know why: She knew she was being considered as the next president of the University of Texas system.“It has been a privilege to serve alongside our Airmen over the past two years and I am proud of the progress that we have made restoring our nation’s defense,” Wilson said in an official statement just released. “We have improved the readiness of the force; we have cut years out of acquisition schedules and gotten better prices through strengthened competition; we have repealed hundreds of superfluous regulations; and we have strengthened our ability to deter and dominate in space.”
A University of Texas statement said its “regents voted unanimously Friday to select Wilson, whose accomplished career in public service and higher education has spanned more than 35 years and includes top leadership roles in higher education, the military, government and private industry.”
There is a 3-week “waiting period” required so she’s around for a little longer.
Now the big question for our readers is, who will replace her? I’ve sent out emails and made a few phone calls but no rumors yet. The Acting Secretary is almost certain to be Undersecretary Matthew Donovan. Given President Trump’s affinity for keeping actings in place so he can avoid Congress, Donovan may last a while. Given that people were still talking about Wilson as frontrunner to be the next Defense Secretary last week, it’s pretty obvious the insiders were caught off guard!

I nominate Eileen Collins, a retired NASA astronaut and a retired United States Air Force colonel. She was a C-141 pilot, instructor pilot, and graduated from the US Air Force Test Pilot School. Collins was also the first female pilot and first female commander of a Space Shuttle. Colonel Collins logged 38 days 8 hours and 20 minutes in outer space.
Can’t think of a better choice to stand-up the new US Space Force which will initially be assigned to the USAF.
I don’t know much about Heather Wilson, but I do know that the people I’m in contact with that are still in liked her. So that means more to me than most anything else.
Hopefully they can find a solid replacement.
Wonder when the libtards will start screaming that she left because of the toxic white racyss mysygonic hatred found through out dTrump admin?
Good for her. Spent a couple semesters at UTEP almost 30 yrs ago. Beautiful weather, campus & architecture. Not gonna make any top 100 colleges/universities list, but many find their niche there. With massive Fort Bliss nearby, GIs are no strangers on campus.
Got my bachelor of science there in 1971 on the GI Bill. Weather was indeed beautiful but back then the ASARCO (American Copper Smelting and Refining Corporation) plant in the Rio Grande Valley below the mountainside campus put out sulphurous fumes that were a constant nuisance. All us married student couples lived on the Mexican economy, buying groceries, gas, booze, haircuts, car washes, etc. in Juarez. Wouldn’t think of venturing there today.
