Florida officer using ‘stand your ground’ defense in trial for killing motorist

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — For the first time in 26 years, a Florida police officer is standing trial for an on-duty killing — and one of his defenses will be the state’s controversial “stand your ground” law.The trial of fired Palm Beach Gardens officer Nouman Raja begins with jury selection Thursday. He is charged with manslaughter and attempted first-degree murder for the 2015 shooting of Corey Jones. Jones, a 31-year-old black musician, had just gotten out of his broken-down SUV when he was confronted by Raja, who was dressed in plainclothes and driving an unmarked white van. The shooting happened amid several highly publicized killings of black men by police officers nationwide, some leading to prosecutions. Raja, 41, could face a life sentence if convicted.
Prosecutors say an audio recording shows Raja never identified himself. They say that caused Jones, who had a concealed-weapons permit, to pull a handgun because he feared he was being robbed. They say Raja kept firing after he saw Jones throw away his gun, and lied to investigators about it.
“Absolutely nothing about him (Raja) provided any indication that he represented a law enforcement agency,” prosecutor Brian Fernandes wrote in court documents, calling Raja a “rogue officer.”
Raja’s attorneys argue he identified himself and feared for his life when Jones pulled his gun. They argued that Raja should be protected under the stand your ground law, which says anyone with a legitimate fear of imminent danger can use lethal force. The law also says it is up to prosecutors to prove the person’s fear was lacking or unreasonable. One exception is that the person cannot be the initial aggressor.

Suspect shot during home invasion in Greene County, says sheriff

GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – Officials with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department say a Bulls Gap man is currently in serious condition at the Johnson City Medical Center after attempting to break into a Greene County home over the weekend.According to a report issued by the department, Timothy Letts, 35, attempted to enter the home of Jeremey and Shelley Easterly late Saturday night on Spice Cove Road.
A narrative by the department says the Easterlys were at home when they heard banging noises against their home.
According to the report, Jeremy armed himself with a shotgun and found two men at his door.

PD: Man shot, killed by estranged wife’s boyfriend in Casa Grande
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (FOX 10) – Casa Grande Police are investigating a homicide after a man was shot and killed Saturday night.
Police responded to an apartment in the 900 block of North Colorado St to find Michael Watson, 33, with a gunshot wound. Watson was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Investigators believe Watson arrived at his estranged wife’s apartment where he confronted the woman’s boyfriend. Watson assaulted the man who fired a handgun, hitting Watson.
Officers said both the estranged wife and her boyfriend stayed on the scene and are cooperating with the investigation.

Remember men you can’t spell estranged without d-a-n-g-e-r. Your “estranged wife” does not complete you. However, she or her new “boyfriend” may end you.
Walk away and stay away. Get the domestic litigation underway and turn “estranged” into “divorced.”
“Estranged” kind of dangling a teaser out there for someone to bite on, sorry but with odds here of 12 to one I’m keeping my mouth shut, the 10 that are supposed to help just sit on the fence and let this old man sink his own ship and laugh, dad blamed nose pickers anyway.

Back in the late 90’s or early 00’s NRA magazine was one, in a Glock ad, in uniform that might cause a stir to some (frisking an illegal) but due to circumstances I would only be able to say, yes the photo was probably staged but the girl and her uniform were real. Is in my photo files on computer but due to possibilities of personal injuries by an elder woman or by her, I do not share.
