How a Dallas veteran defended himself when a carjacker showed up inside his home

Cassandra Jaramillo, Staff writer
When Ron Hernandez got home Wednesday, he left his garage door open because he planned to go back out to walk his dog. But he got caught up talking to his roommate for a few minutes as the door remained open.

“Then all of a sudden this man intrudes,” Hernandez said.

At that moment, Hernandez became a key part of a dramatic struggle by Dallas officers to catch 26-year-old Austin David Reed after a nearly two-hour pursuit, which began with an apparent hostage situation at a motel.

Hernandez — a Navy veteran and former boxer — fought for his life before police ended the incident by shooting Reed, who they say had a knife.

The ordeal began at a motel in the 9500 block of Forest Lane, hours before Hernandez got home. Police said a woman was reportedly being held against her will.

Georgia man shoots, kills armed robber at Family Dollar

By Paulina Dedaj | Fox News
A customer shot and killed a would-be thief on Tuesday as he tried to hold up a Family Dollar store in Atlanta, police said.

The shooting took place in the early morning in DeKalb County.

County police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer told WGXA that an unidentified suspect entered the store and pulled a gun on two employees.

While the armed suspect was demanding money from the cashier, a customer pulled his own gun and fired, Fox 5 reported.

Police are investigating the scene but said that the customer will not be charged in the shooting.

A quiet Sunday morning, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes, brings us a satisfactory 2 / 1 / 0, two who have shuffled off this mortal coil, one in the body and fender shop getting leaks repaired, and none in the wind. For today, any way- they are out there, waiting.

If I may be so bold, First only counts on the WOT.
But go with that if it works for you.
Welcome!
Thanks to Hondo, AW1Ed, and Ex-ph2, for keeping this going. If I missed any of you, mea culpa…I am prepared for incoming.
Thank you SFC Jonn Lilyea.

“tried to hold up a Family Dollar store”

Again? What is it about Family Dollar that maks them a common target? The word “dollar”?

Amateurs.

Pros hit Liquor stores. -Way- more cash on hand than almost anything else, including Banks. And if you happen to catch them short, they still have fifths of good stuff.

Jay

Family Dollar….in Atlanta. Somehow, I feel the recently departed’s name will be short a few vowels and have an apostrophe in it.

3/10/MED/b

Family dollar.
In Atlanta.

That pretty much covers it.
Knocked it outta the park there, Jay.

Ex-PH2

Sister Mary Grace has a few bones to pick:

“A customer shot and killed a would-be thief on Tuesday as he tried to hold up a Family Dollar store in Atlanta…”
It’s semiclear, but it infers that the customer tried to hold up the FD store.

Therefore: “On Tuesday, a customer shot and killed a would-be thief who tried to hold up a Family Dollar store in Atlanta…” is more clear and direct.

Sister Mary Grace will return to watching reruns of “Magnum, PI” and “Hennessy”.

I do not like to be wrong.
I have left out so many in the claims of the contributions to TAH. I left out Thunderstixx, rgr769, and the one that comes to mind when it comes to this place, is Poe. I am a writer, but when Poetrooper lays it out, one should just read.
And learn.
I will read.
And try to learn.

rgr769

The Poe is one hell of a fine scribbler. We should all read his insightful prose.

I missed the besig and IDsarc and others. Maybe I need a roll call to get my self right.
Prepare to fire…
FIRE!
(please. Would like to hear from who is out there. We are a strange breed.)

Late to the party boys and girls. Sorry I wasn’t here FIRST thing this morning. It wasn’t because of the O Channel Movie. Actually I was here FIRST thing, but then life as we know it got in the way and I had to FIRST take care of that.

Thanks to ArmyATC for being the FIRST to blow Reveille. Just a reminder that the King of Battle (Howitzer be his name) is reining as FIRST in the only FIRST that counts among any FIRSTs. The Coveted (Earned never given) Friday Weekend Open Thread FIRST as recorded in the Book.

2/1/0 still not a bad day at the window, my winnings from the Triple Crown and the added Quadfectta has enabled me to keep the wolf away from the door and out in the street.

Lessons learned for the day: No knife at a gun fight & Southerns are generally carrying or have one close by. Oh and yes, btw, the Family Dollars are being built everywhere to give the dindu a place to practice.

Jason

ahhh…Enterprise, Alabama. Where there is a statue of a Boll Weevil (sp?). Cool history lesson if you search about it.

5th/FFA,
My apologies to you. I am trying to acknowledge all on TAH whose comments/experiences/words of wisdom outshine my own.

Fire in the hole.

I say again..
5th/77th FA…

Better get that shit correct.
