GoFundMe Refunds Donors Who Donated to Scam Fund for Homeless Man

You guys recall the story of a good Samaritan who aided a woman. In a show of appreciation, she started a GoFundMe campaign for the man, who could’ve used the donation as a springboard back to normalcy. Instead of using the funds to do what they claimed they’d do; however, the fund starters went on a spending spree.
Here’s the latest from the Associated Press:
MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (AP) — GoFundMe says it has refunded everyone who contributed to a campaign involving a homeless veteran from Philadelphia who prosecutors allege schemed with a New Jersey couple to scam donors out of more than $400,000.
GoFundMe spokesman Bobby Whithorne said Tuesday that “all donors who contributed to this GoFundMe campaign have been fully refunded” and the organization is cooperating fully with law enforcement.
Burlington County prosecutors allege in a criminal complaint that Johnny Bobbitt conspired with Katelyn McClure and her boyfriend at the time, Mark D’Amico, to concoct a feel-good story about Bobbitt giving McClure his last $20 when her car ran out of gas. They raised $400,000, which authorities say was spent on luxury items and casino trips.
Whithorne said campaigns involving misuse “make up less than one tenth of one percent” of all GoFundMe campaigns, but such behavior “is unacceptable” and “has consequences.”
“We have a zero tolerance policy for fraudulent behavior,” he said. “If fraud occurs, donors get refunded and we work with law enforcement officials to recover the money.”
McClure has alleged through her lawyer that D’Amico duped her. His lawyer has denied the allegations. Prosecutors released texts from McClure including one sent right after the GoFundMe page was set up in which they allege she told a friend that the “gas part is completely made up.”
Prosecutors began investigating last summer after Bobbitt said he wasn’t getting money raised on his behalf. He later sued the couple.

Guy on the left socks so much dick he has ball-shaped bald spots on his chin.

That’s a stand-up thing for GoFundMe to do. BZ!
Is that the same John Bobbitt that had his old wazoo cut off by his wife??????
That John Bobbitt later failed as a pr0n Actor because he fainted every time the Director yelled “CUT!”.

Still waiting on Katelyn McClure to resort in desperation to pornography. We gotta be getting close now.
Good on GoFundMe to give a refund. They need to do a better job policing their system, because it is ripe for fraud like this. Not sure how they can do this since people put up pages begging for Coach purses, new iPhones, and potato salad.
Give it until…I say….mid February. That’s when she will realize how broke she truly is and she will still be able to capitalize off her ‘name’. Im sure the title will be “GoFvckMe” or something….
Go-Fund-Me is the hi-tech internet equivalent of the hobo on the corner with a tin cup.
Good on them for refunding the donations. Chances are they will never recoup the losses, even if they are given all the couples assets.
Go Fund me takes 5% of donations, however they do have cases where that’s waived.
It’s a pretty penny. Plus some processers take 30 cents per donation and 2.9 %. .
GFM has pocketed $866,000 of that border wall money
Once again proving the best way for three people to keep a fucking secret is if two of them are dead.
Never run a scam to begin with, but if you feel you must you need it to be a one person show….you can never truly trust anyone but yourself.
If you’re smart enough to run a scam you’re probably smart enough to earn a decent living in legitimate profession in any event.
Right, three people can keep a secret provided two of them are dead. Homeless guy says they ‘cheated’ him out of his proceeds from the scam. These people are stupid beyond words. Take in a ton of bucks and start buying expensive cars, handbags, casino trips, all the stuff they were previously unable to afford. Do all that and hope nobody catches on? If they had given the guy his cut maybe all would be well. You have to have a screw loose to spend that much for a handbag. Wife has a nice one, all leather, with an inside pouch for her carry weapon. Sweet …
I swear, that clown on the right looks like Zippy. Something to scare small children and make your dog angry enough to chase him.
I didn’t donate to the scammers but I believe that I should receive compensation anyway. GFM stories usually give me a good laugh. In fact, I think I’ll stop over now to get a chuckle.
I don’t believe lots of what is on GFM. Know a guy whose wife died a few years ago, he got mega bucks from life insurance policy. Just paid cash for a nice new house, about $390,000. He got himself a GFM site, asking for money to buy a service dog for about $5K. Had some sob story. Glad he didn’t raise a dime.
Had a fucking relative write out a sob story set one up a few years ago for Christmas presents for his kids.
Not a dime was raised.
