Feel Good Stories
From Baltimore, MD, where guns aren’t allowed:
Baltimore police officer shot at a man at a shopping center in District Heights, Maryland, after he saw the man breaking into his truck and stealing a bag full of guns, police say.
Prince George’s County police believe the man followed the officer after they both went to a gun range in Upper Marlboro.
The officer, whose name was not released, went to the gun range on Friday. Police believe the man also was there and followed him.
From Los Angeles, CA, where guns aren’t allowed:
https://www.breitbart.com/california/2018/09/11/watch-suspect-shoots-officer-gets-killed/
Dashcam video from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) cruiser shows a suspect shoot and wound a female officer at point blank range before being shot and killed by her partner.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the suspect in the video, 32-year-old Richard Mendoza, was a gang member. After being asked to exit his vehicle Mendoza can be seen “[pulling] a .380-caliber handgun from his side and [shooting] the female officer who is standing just inches away.”
She falls to the ground as her partner shoots Mendoza from the passenger’s side.
As the female officer lies on the ground, screaming with a gunshot wound to the leg, her partner comes around the car and shoots Mendoza one more time.
N.B.: There’s a video at the link. : -)
And finally, from Palm Beach, FL:
The Palm Beach Post reports that the sheriff announced the father will face no charges for shooting the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Terrence Wilson Jr.
The father left his daughter in the car while he went into a barbershop to get his 12-year-old son. Upon coming out he spotted Wilson get in the car and try to drive away. The father drew his gun, ordered Wilson to stop, then opened fire.
There’s a second story at the bottom of that page.

I thought a clusterfuck of cats was called a “clowder”./smile
I feel better this morning.
Sounds like the Baltimore cop (a) needs more range time, and (b) also needs a common-sense infusion. (Stop for dinner at a shopping center with a bag of weapons in the truck, likely in plain sight, instead of going home and securing them first? Great idea! I think I’ll do that tomorrow myself!)
Not only that, from the article:
“That’s when the man broke into the officer’s personally owned truck and took several guns, some of which were high-powered.”
FN 5.7? Thompson Contender in a rifle caliber?
I wouldn’t read too much into that “high powered” comment, AW1Ed.
Best I can tell, much of the media seems to think pretty much anything with more oomph than a .22LR is “high powered”. (smile)
It’s not the caliber. It is the accessories that make it high powered.
Grips, sights, thing that goes up etc.
Add a trigger that works to that list, and some magazines like Glamour and Good Housekeeping, and you’ve got a winner!
On a side note, when Trigger die, Roy Rogers had him stuffed. After Roy departed this mortal plain, Dale said she wanted to have him stuffed.
I get that, just pointing out the ignorance of reporters.
Hey, I just report ’em. I don’t judge ’em.
Since when have you ever been shy about calling a dumbass a dumbass, lass? (smile)
Heehee! I think my kitty is smarter than this particular gun-totin’ idjit.
The when the cop arrives home he probably drops the bag of weapons in his living room until he heads out to the range again. Hopefully, he lives alone because his complacency is dangerous. Probably never served in the military or maybe he just doesn’t have any common sense.
Cleans them before range time instead of after.
“..followed the officer..”
Lack of situational awareness! He could have avoided this mess by spotting the hoodlum early. Casing a gun range for targets of opportunity to follow is a well-known game.
Please tell me no one on this list goes straight -anywhere- after the range? Everyone pays attention to who is behind you as you depart? Who is still there three blocks later? Four left turns mid trip works wonders.
I do, I go straight home, clean my weapons, and put the ones I won’t be carrying back in the gun safes.
Yeah, and slowing for a yellow light, then accelerating at the last moment leaves anyone following you at the red light. As you watch him in the rearview mirror.
Wow, went to gun range, then shoots at person breaking into truck, not hitting them, should have been DRT, must have same qualifications as the one department here. Target 10 feet, 10 rounds, if any single round hits the dirt within 50 yards of target, you are hired. Course the boss of the office here says his wife is more accurate than him and that is good thing as have heard several here say that the only time they see him he is drunk. Probably will use PTSD as excuse.
Stealing a bag full of guns? Did the perp steal the guns or not? Were the guns recovered? 1 shot, forgot to reload after range time? Barny Fife, only has one bullet? Bag full of guns, apparently still had service revolver so leaves backup, backup to backup, couple of cheap extras to maybe use if shoot an unarmed perp and need one to drop by dead perp to justify shooting, that is he can hit him in the first place. So many questions.
Hope that LAPD cop has a good lawyer, I suspect that last round is going to get called dubious and excessive – perp wasn’t moving. I don’t disagree with him… but by then the imminent threat was bleeding out.
Which group is suffering the most from teh stoopid, the “alleged suspects” or the idiots that almost allowed teh stoopid to happen? Asking for a friend.
I just ordered one of those Galco Miami II shoulder holsters for my M&P 9c. Generally, the S&W Airweight is my main carry and a great pocket piece. But, New England winters come early and 9c will likely become the main carry piece until next spring.
Too bad we don’t have open carry, up here. I would prefer to carry the 1911 or a 686. Alas, they are both a wee bit large and heavy for everyday wear.
Haha, reminds me of those old Jane Russell commercials for full-figured girls.
