Monday morning feel good stories.
From COHOES, NY
Police say a resident at a building on south Remsen street prevented a home invasion early Sunday morning.
Officials say a man entered the home and encountered the resident, who had a gun. They say the resident shot the home intruder, who later died from his injuries at the hospital. Police are not releasing the name or the whereabouts of the resident who opened fire on the man.
From PROVO, Utah
A Provo man was arrested Saturday after allegedly pulling a hatchet out of the back of his van during an altercation, which led to him being held at gunpoint until police arrived. According to a probable cause statement released by the Utah County Sheriff, the victim of the assault stated that 55-year-old Galen Williams pulled too far into a crosswalk with his van, and heated words were exchanged.
Williams allegedly pulled into a parking lot to confront the victim, but the victim’s father ran over and pushed the door to the car shut, the probable cause statement said. Williams then allegedly punched the victim’s father in the face and drove to a different part of the parking lot. “There was video camera showing (Williams) had gotten out of his van and walked to the back of the van,” police said. “I could see (Williams) pulling out a hatchet out of the back of his van.”
The probable cause statement said that the victim’s father ran to his truck, and Williams got back into his van. The father allegedly took out a gun and held Williams at gunpoint until police arrived.
From CHESNEE, SC
A would-be burglar ran off from his mark in the Upstate after two neighbors took aim at him. Spartanburg County deputies say the attempted burglary happened around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday when a neighbor on Texas Avenue in Chesnee heard loud banging at a vacant residence nearby. The witness told deputies he called the homeowner about what was happening, and both walked over to the property to investigate.
When they got there, they say they saw a man trying to get inside a boarded-up window, and commanded him to leave with his hands up. Instead, the man ran toward Highway 11, and the two neighbors each fired one shot into the ground. Nothing was stolen, but deputies say the suspect left behind a black bookbag and hat that were left behind.

Sister Mary Grace has meditated over these news releases and asked for clarity.
“Police are not releasing the name or the whereabouts of the resident who opened fire on the man.” But you can most likely find him on Remsen Street. Just ask his neighbors.
2nd story – was the victim driving a car or a truck? And how is something an “alleged” act when the police officer says “I can see it on the surveillance video”? Inquiring minds want to know.
Nothing was stolen, but deputies say the suspect left behind a black bookbag and hat that were left behind. – 3rd story. Emphasizing that something left behind was left behind is — well, overly emphatic, perhaps? Redundant?
Sister Mary Grace is about to start a blog in which the bad writing and lack of editing is behind the reason that no one is interested in online news these days.
Ex … as a member of the fourth estate myself (and I’m definitely NOT left-leaning at all), I can tell you that the word “alleged” is our stay-out-of-a-lawsuit gold standard. We can say almost anything we wish, as long as we say “alleged” and cite who alleges it.
Understood, and henceforth taken into account, Commish!
One less oxygen thief in NY. Hatchets are best used for making kindling or driving tent stakes. Sister Mary Grace’s blog should be required remedial training for all on line and print media wannabes.
Now, there’s a thought!
I hope the Cohoes NY homeowner who shot the perp doesn’t get into any trouble from the anti 2nd A Shitbird NY gov.
AS I understand it, outside of NYC and its confines, the Sheriffs and local LEOs take a less stringent view of self-armed citizens, especially if they are engaged in plausible self defense activities.
Ex; cuomo is the Gov. of NYS and had a lot of things to say about gun owners in his state a couple of years ago and I am surprised that the Firearms mfrs. in the state didn’t move to a more gun friendlier state
True, but there was that episode a couple of years ago, in which two convicts escaped a state prison (with the witless help of an employee) and the various county sheriffs advised their population groups to arm themselves at all times.
