Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 rescues a Chinese mariner

| July 18, 2018

According to Stars & Stripes, a call went out from the Belgian cargo ship Wangaratta that a crewman was desperately ill and needed medical attention.

[Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 (HSC-25)] crewmembers, including aircraft commander Lt. Samantha Telles-Goins, headed for the ship about 120 miles west of Guam. They then brought the distressed mariner aboard for an airlift evacuation.

“This was my first lifesaving Medical Evacuation as a member of HSC-25,” Telles-Goins said in the statement. “Seeing all of my training pay off successfully was a very rewarding experience.”

The sailors took the mariner to Naval Hospital Guam, and he was later transferred to Guam Memorial Hospital for treatment, according to the Navy statement.

I guess the Navy is a force for good in the world. They should make a commercial.

Hondo

So, which one of the Village People’s voices was it? (smile)

AW1Ed

So last year, Jonn. The Navy is now “Forged by the Sea.”

AnotherPat

Great minds think alike, AW1Ed, because we are Sister Services…(see my comment)..😉

Now that I got that out of the way:

GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY! AGAIN!

😎

AW1Ed

Great minds indeed. Except for the “GO ARMY” part.

*grin*

AnotherPat

…somehow, I KNEW you would have that comeback…😉👍👏

Good one !

I have a Navy cover that proclaims: “The Sea Is Ours”. That becomes less obvious with the passage of time. But, we are still the big dogs at this time. In 10-20 years? IDK

What happened to “Join the Navy and see the world”?

AW1Ed

Turns out the world is about 75% water, so there’s not a hell of a lot to see.

AW1Ed

Busy week.

This was the second time this week that the Navy made headlines for rescue efforts. On July 11, a Navy P-8A Poseidon surveillance aircraft was used to find a fishing boat lost in the Indian Ocean after the Sri Lankan navy asked for help. Six fishermen were rescued from the missing boat as a result of sailors’ efforts.

My all-time favorite Navy commercial, in which everyone but a green midget appears in uniform, is the one which builds to the Big Finish Line: “To get to you, they have to go through us.” Every time I heard that line, I added “again” at its ass end. Gawd, how I hated that commercial.

AW1Ed

You were not the only one with that opinion, Cav.

I suppose a chink in the drink joke would be in bad taste. Yeah. Good thing I checked myself first.

They’re damn lucky they were as close to Guam as they were.

Most of the other islands in the region don’t have nearly as advanced medical facilities.

Hell, the tender was the only place outside the Philippines with a recompression chamber. I don’t know how many times we had divers from as far as Chuuk and Palau get treated for DCS.

I was three years NH Guam, 81-84. Visited the USS Proteus frequently concerning radiation health/safety matters. NH Guam is a fine hospital and, as you stated, it is the ONLY hospital of any importance for a few thousand miles. Some of the lesser islands have ‘hospitals’ but you wouldn’t want to go to them. I moonlighted at Guam Memorial Hospital, the civilian hospital on Guam. To say it was lacking is an understatement. The really sick were sent to NH Guam and, if they couldn’t handle a problem, on to (usually) Hawaii. Understand the hospital has been completely torn down and a slam dunk state of the art facility erected in its place. I would love to see it.

They did. It was called Top Gun. The sequel should be out soon.

AW1Ed

Oh shit. You just invoked the wrath of Mick. Let the record show AW1Ed had no input to names, characters, places and/or incidents associated with That Movie on this post. Any resemblance to real persons and/or other real-life entities is purely coincidental. No animals were harmed in the production of this post.
That is all, good luck.

I’m sure it was dramatized a little bit but I bet the shower scenes were 99% accurate.
