Code inspector Melinda Power suspended

| April 19, 2018

Jacksonville, Florida city code inspector who made national news the other day was suspended from her job when she tried to cite Jaguar Power Sports for flags on their building and ended up treating poorly a customer who was a veteran according to News4Jax;

The city of Jacksonville has suspended a code inspector who sparked controversy Monday after she issued a warning citation to a Westside business over military flags and then was caught on surveillance video in a confrontation with a customer who objected to the citation.

The inspector’s supervisor, who was present during the incident, has also been suspended, Mayor Lenny Curry said Tuesday.

Both employees will still be receiving pay during the investigation, the city confirmed.

Mayor Curry released the following statement;

“Employees of the city of Jacksonville are the servants of taxpayers who have a duty to enforce our laws and regulations. I expect every one of them to do that job in a manner that is respectful and reflects the privilege we all have to serve this great city. What I saw reported is 100 percent inconsistent with how I expect every city employee to interact with our citizens.

“I have ordered a review of the actions of the employee and pending the completion of that review, the employee and her supervisor have been placed on leave. Today I will ask every manager of city departments to review our procedures with each city employee. Once a review of the actions in this matter is complete, appropriate corrective action will be enforced for any wrongdoing.

“As the son and grandson of military veterans, and the mayor of a city with a proud history of commitment to our nation’s defense, I will not tolerate disparagement or disrespect of the men and women who serve or served. On behalf of the City of Jacksonville I apologize to veterans and service members who are rightly troubled by the events that have been reported.

“While current ordinance does not address residents or businesses displaying military flags, I will not allow any citation of those who demonstrate their support for the Armed Forces. My team is working with the city’s Office of General Counsel to bring clarity to the relevant city laws.”

KA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

Dustoff

So both get a paid vacation.

David

‘suspended without pay” sounds a lot better to me. This? An unplanned fishing trip.

The Other Whitey

Due process. Employees have rights, including cunts like Melinda Power. There needs to be an investigation, then corrective/adverse action. These rules are supposed to protect good employees from getting screwed over, but that also means they have to apply to the shitty ones as well.

Dear Melinda; “C U Next Thursday”
I had a colleague who used to tell our manager that every week. She never caught on.

desert

No shyt…”don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out bitch”!! City code says nothing about flags on the buildings! This arrogant bitch did this on her own!

Atkron

Hey Melinda, Don’t come into work for awhile you kicked over a hornet’s nest.

Give it a week or two to settle down. You’ve been talking about wanting to take time off to take the grandkids to Disney World. Now might be a good time…oh, don’t worry you will still get paid.

Ex-PH2

So being rude and on a power trip doesn’t go over too well these days?

That’s good to know.

Jonp

Idk. Attention Hogg is turning it into a career

Ex-PH2

Who????

His 15 minutes are nearly up.

E4 Mafia For Life.

Hogg will go back to his old career of working behind the truck stop dumpsters cleaning the blow holes on skin flutes.

We should commend The Mayor for swiftly acting on this and for issueing such a strong statement.
As city employees they may be covered by either unions or contracts and the proper sequence must be followed….after which they are fired and deported to Borneo

Here’s hoping they get shitcanned like Gregory Salcido did, scumbags like her typically take Government jobs because they see that kind of work as where they can do the bare minimum, treat people like shit and stay employed, then collect a pension after 20 years.

Thunderstixx

Not only did she have that part of the government job she also had a huge power trip going on and no doubt had made a lot of people really pissed off over the years that she was an inspector…
Imagine some of the other bull shit citations she wrote and how many hundreds of thousands of dollars business owners paid into that city coffer just because she liked to be in charge.
People like her are as useless as a full grown sow on an ice hockey rink…

BZ Mayor Curry, and hopefully you will not “Curry” any favors from the liberals to make it illegal to fly any Mil type flags from buildings now that they found out that there is no ordanance against it.

My guess? Yes, it will fall from the news, the supervisor will be reprimanded, and Melinda “Public Servant My Ass” Power will be suspended w/o pay for, oh, 3-5 days, and will be directed to attend anger-management class.

DaveP.

Not necessarily. When it gets to the point where your boss’ boss’ boss has to go out in public to apologize for your behavior, you may just be toast.
That having been said, there may be union/employment contract issues to be worked through here that a private company wouldn’t have. I work for a municipality (in a right-to-work state, no less) and I’ve seen times where it took months and repeated violations to finally fire someone with hideous work behavior. If you don’t actually bring a dime bag into work or deck your boss, dumping you can require building a paper trail that satisfies the HR weenies.

I have seen people fired immediately for show. Months later, after the public attention is long gone, and the fired employee has appealed the termination, the employee is reinstated with back pay. In this case, there wasn’t a ‘show’ firing, and because it’s a gov’t job, I say she isn’t going to be canned. It all depends upon what infraction she committed and what the corresponding penalty is. Most gov’t workplaces have some form of progressive discipline with firing reserved for the most egregious misconduct or if the employee reached the point in the disciplinary schedule that triggers termination. I have no idea what her record looks like. It’s just a guess.

Sounds like the POS VA monstrosities that seem to get away with murder and be shuffled around.

jonp

I agree with you except for one thing. There is no paper trail needed. Video is a wonderful thing and cut’s out the he said she said

Dumb cunt claimed in her mea-culpa tweet that her husband is a Vietnam Vet and her son(?) is a Marine brigadier general. Anyone laying bets on if any of those claims are even remotely true?

Club Manager, USA ret.

This needs to be followed up on because if she lied about either, it is more fuel for the fire to can her ass. Is she old enough to have a son in his 40’s?

Jon The Mechanic

If her husband is a Viet of the Nam vet, then yes, she could have a son in his 40’s.

And if so, I would like to see them move her out of the house and into a tent in the back yard, where she can think about how stupid she is for a couple of months.

Cris

My dad is a Vietnam vet and I’ll be 57 this summer… well, this summer, for the rest of you, it’s been summer for a while here in Tucson

An 18-year old in VN in 1971 who came home and started a family right away would have, say, a child of 45/46 today. On the other hand, a GI who was in VN in 1965 and had a 10-year old child at the time would have a child of 63 or so now. That’s nearly a 20-year spread and covers a great many age variations.

ADDgolfer

Yes it does covers a great many age variations.

I am a VietNam era vet ’71-’73 and our oldest will be 41 in June. Born 1977

desert

I am a vietnam vet, 1959-1960 and have a son 56!

Just the facts

Yes, her husband was a VN vet…..he died of brain cancer awhile back.

Just bought a General Mattis flag with the writing, “MAKE KILLING GREAT AGAIN.”
I’ll get a high flag pole, run it up and wrap barbed wire around the bottom 6′ of the pole.
Probably put night lights on it too.
Because I live in california and anything I can do to piss on the snow flakes.

Yef

I don’t recommend this course of action.

ADDgolfer

A poor reflection on General Mattis.
Unless that’s your intention, then you are one of “them”

Stephen F. McCartney, M.D.

Seems like verbally spouting off with the steaming residue of continued mental constipation is getting costly. This foolish ingrate. The corpulent, rotund lard assed Cal State Professor who trashed Lady Barbara Bush apparently is sucking down krill and plankton in Tunisia while the University today informed her she “can” be fired even as a tenured pin head. Foul mouthed Chelsea Handler criticizes FLOTUS accent and gets her wrinkled cellulitic ass handed back to her when she is informed that Melania speaks five languages fluently. Oh..the pain of it all !! CAPT Bones USN (ret)

The Al

In the case of the dipshit from Fresno, I think tweeting out the number for Arizona State University’s mental health crisis phone number as her own MIGHT hurt her continued employment.

Carlton G. Long

I have a strong suspicion that she will be fired, and that Fresno State’s leadership will go out of its way to say that she was only fired for the wrong number stunt.

ADDgolfer

Yep she was idiotic and yes there are far too many of those in gov’t who become drunk on power, but is this employee one of them?

The controversy has gone viral. Is she a problem employee for the city or just having a crappy day?
There’ll be a pattern to an abuse of position, and if so…there undoubtedly will be many complaints from those who have been subject to it, flooding the city’s inbox.
Or not.

Sheryl Gray

Did she lose her appeal? I hope so, no city needs someone as arrogant as that and as disrespectful as Malinda Powers!
