“Teacher accidentally fires gun and injures student during safety lesson”

| March 14, 2018

That’s the headline to the CNN article. While it’s mostly accurate, the “teacher” was actually a local reserve police officer and the mayor pro tem of Seaside City, California.

Anyway, he pointed his gun at the ceiling and had a negligent discharge. One student was struck in the area of his neck by a bullet or ceiling fragment (pictured above).

“I think a lot of questions on parents’ minds are, why a teacher would be pointing a loaded firearm at the ceiling in front of students,” Superintendent PK Diffenbaugh told CNN affiliate KSBW. “Clearly in this incident protocols were not followed.”

A lot of questions should be on the minds of the people who hired him to be police officer, too. Questions like “Why is this guy our mayor?” and “Who gave this guy a gun?”

Again, as always, it’s people who are the problem, not the guns. In the Army, we said that the nut behind the trigger needed an adjustment.

I’ve injured myself more opening a can of beans.

Just what was this guy teaching?

The Other Whitey

My money says it was “only trained police officers like me should have guns.”

ChipNASA

That video never gets old. If anyone doesn’t get the reference, here it is.

The Other Whitey

I find it kinda agonizing to watch, actually.

I’m a law-abiding citizen who pays my taxes, generally obeys the speed limit, and has no criminal record or history of violence or mental instability, and have never had an ND in my life, but I MUST be disarmed in the name of “public safety,” or something…

… But they’ll GIVE that asshole a gun!!!

timactual

Absolutely hilarious;

“I am the only one in this room professional enough, that I know of, to carry this Glock 40″….BANG!

Nice recovery, though.

I am not sure I want to be professional enough to carry a Glock 40. Looks dangerous.

Thunderstixx

Too bad he didn’t blow the family jewels off so he couldn’t reproduce.
This clown desperately needs a Darwin Award !!!

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

Baaahaaaahaaaa!!!
Suprised he wasnt holding it sideways.

Casey

Better yet, I was ROTFLMAO when he picked up the rifle and everyone started yelling “put it down!!”

I always liked the Plaxico Burress Gun Safety spoof. Its for the Kids Dawg!

Atkron

Took my boys to a Hunter’s Ed class last June. Every time an instructor picked a weapon up for demonstration purposes, the students had to yell ‘Is it loaded?’.

You know…to remind themselves, and the instructor to always check the chamber.

Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone were trained in firearm safety?

Club Manager, USA ret.

WAR STORY ALERT! Sixty, yes 60, years ago our weapons instructor at Lackland AFB Air Police School said ALWAYS treat every weapon as loaded until you see daylight twice, once looking down the barrel and the other through the magazine grip (i.e., 45 cal semi). I never claimed to be the brightest bulb in the pack but that even stuck with me. I am positive our instructor was not the only one who preached ALWAYS.

AW1Ed

Dumbass. He violated nearly all of Col. Coopers rules at one time, and displayed a remarkable lack of common sense by bringing a loaded firearm into a classroom environment.

timactual

Police carry loaded firearms into playgrounds, parks, shopping malls, etc. Why not a classroom?

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

A gun is only as safe as the person holding it.
Not these inept assclowns

AW1Ed

Not when the firearm being is used as a teaching aid, like this one was.

Green Thumb

Active Officers in uniform can in many states.

To include Reserve Officers who are “under orders”.

MrFace

Col. Cooper, Father of the modern handgun technique, may he rest in peace.

He was a good man.

The Other Whitey

Saint Jeffrey of the 1911, right up there with Saint John Moses.

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

…..cant leave out Saint Peter Paul and the Apostle Willy

Red Forman

Dumbass.

David

Well, it is Seaside… note he is only pro tem, not elected. I am told that many ‘reserve police’ in the PRC are connected folks who want concealed carry privileges but can’t or won’t jump through all the PRC restrictions on CC licensing.

The Other Whitey

Yep.

Graybeard

And we have a ND by a fellow who is in not just one, not two, but three positions of authority and trust: teacher, reserve police officer, and mayor pro tem.

This guy is a Numbnut Dumbadz himself.

The Other Whitey

Once again, the media lies. It wasn’t a teacher, but a (reserve) LEO—allegedly highly-trained—whose weapon discharged. So no dreaded “armed teacher,” but rather the illustrious armed cop. It didn’t “accidentally go off,” numbnuts had a negligent discharge because he was an idiot. An accidental discharge is the result of a mechanical failure in the weapon; a negligent discharge (or “dumbass discharge,” as Grandpa would say) is the result of the user doing something stupid. Their coverage tries to make it sound like a student was shot, when the student in fact suffered a superficial injury from a drywall fragment.

I’ll say it again: if the antigunners are right, then why do they have to lie?

CPT11A

“Accidental” is a nifty way of blaming the gun rather than the liberal dumbass holding the gun.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

On purpose discharge maybe.

OSC(SW) Retired

Not exactly. There is no media conspiracy to distort this guy’s position to make political points against the asinine idea of arming teachers as collateral duty school cops. Don’t get me wrong I have no problem with teachers being allowed to voluntary carry at school provided sufficient training. But with regard to your comment Dennis Alexander is a teacher at the school. He is on their faculty list and teaches in the Career and Technical Education Division. Specifically he teaches Intro to fire and police/Public Safety.

David

Self-evidently unqualified, too.

OSC(SW) Retired

Hopefully the administrative leave the school district put him on becomes permanent. Or they offer him the opportunity to teach a class in pushing a broom.

SFC D

Dennis Alexander just failed his own course. Spectacularly.

Geetwillickers

Keep yer booger hook off the bangswitch until on target and ready to fire.

Also, one of Col Cooper’s lesser known rules: “No matter how responsible or intelligent he seems, never give your gun to a monkey.”

AW1Ed

Or else…

Link

No West African soldiers were harmed in the production of this video clip.

Wilted Willy

I don’t care who you are, that was some funny shit!!!
Thanks for the link, AW1Ed!

The Other Whitey

Okay, so…how could this accident have been prevented, guys?

J.R.

Close the LEO loophole

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

As I said on a previous occasion, that chimp was the smartest homonid in that video.

“The Sand City Police Department consists of the Chief of Police, two sergeants, six officers and two reserves on a rotating 4-11 schedule.” Sand City PD website

“Barney! How many times must I tell you? Keep that bullet in your shirt pocket or I’m taking it away from you!”

Perry Gaskill

Seaside is where a lot of the off-post bars were back when Ft. Ord still existed. Sand City is a strip of beach about the size of an average neighborhood which is surrounded by Seaside. A few years ago, there was a big fight among the locals about whether Sand City should even have a city charter.

2/17 Air Cav

Here’s a present for you and anyone who has been at Fort Ord:

rgr769

I looks like ol’ Ft. Ord has really gone to seed.

2/17 Air Cav

I think I see a few butts and some brass down there!

SFC D

Yef! Get yer ass to work and most ricky-tick!

rgr769

You are implying someone falsely said, “no brass or ammo, sergeant!” Surely, that has never happened.

Perry Gaskill

Thanks, 2/17. It seemed strange to me when they closed Ft. Ord, but it was at a time when Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein were using a $600 hammer excuse to try to purge almost every base in California. The reality was it probably had more to do with being offended by a military presence than budget issues.

Still, the ghost of Ft. Ord keeps showing up in strange ways. For example, every summer during Monterey concours week there’s a gathering of Ferrari owners on Ft. Ord’s old Black Horse golf course named for the 11th Cavalry. Something kinda cool considering Ferrari’s logo is a prancing black horse.

The Other Whitey

Hmm, I thought the whole point of BRAC was for local communities to reclaim bases and turn them into vibrant commercial and residential districts bringing increased revenues for everyone. Instead, there’s all kinds of abandoned buildings and collapsed roofs. “Vibrant” my Black Irish ass.

My first visit to that area was in 2008, when I was part of a Strike Team sent to the Basin Fire. I remember seeing dozens of signs all over the place advertising property on Fort Ord for dirt-cheap. Looks like they couldn’t give the place away, and several of the locals told us how nice it used to be before the Army left.

Since it’s California, I’m sure that neck photo is of a girl.

Ex-PH2

He did not simply have a negligent discharge.

He IS a negligent discharge.

That is all.

Former EM1/SS

Apparently it was his father who had the negligent discharge…..

Just sayin

SFC D

Does that make his momma a clearing barrel?

The Other Whitey

“Yo’ momma was a clearing barrel!”

Graybeard

Is this ^^^^ going on the TOI?

The Other Whitey

I suppose “clearing barrel” sounds a bit less NSFW than “cum dumpster.”

USMCMSgt (Ret)

Just more proof that firearms tend to mind their own fucking business, and generally harmless until some dipshit gets ahold of it.

FatCircles0311

What the left doesn’t want to report on is the 18 states that allow and have armed school staff and nothing bad happens. Leave it to California police to be the 1 negative example used to further disarm everyone except the highly trained police of course.

ChipNASA

Relax,
He just got his first Desk Pop

The Other Whitey

Okay, hand over the wooden gun. From now on, you can have a rape whistle.

2/17 Air Cav

“highly trained police….” May I change that to ‘high when trained?’

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

Can anyone think of what a bona fide firearms “Accident” would be or look like?
Certainly not ‘ a Cheney’!
(Oops, he never shot the guy. Just ‘Peppered him a little.’ LOL)
As opposed to human error, negligence or plain stupidity.

Ex-PH2

Just to tell you what self-righteous bimps lefties are, some “columnist” in the local newsrag announced this morning in his column that he has turned in all the guns he inherited to the police for destruction, instead of just taking them to a firearms dealer and selling them.

He probably could have gotten some serious cash for them, but nooooooooo! He hadda make a shoooooowwww! and let us all knoooooowwww!

His virtue signaling only makes him look as utterly stupid as he really is.

Idiots are a dime a dozen, aren’t they?

The Other Whitey

How much you wanna bet the cops proceeded to “destroy” those guns right into their own collections?

Mason

Had a partner one time talk a woman out of disposing of her shotgun to the PD. Instead he bought it from her personally.

I handled a call one day of an elderly woman who discovered her dead husband’s ammo can of loose rounds from the range. Army master sergeant’s uniform hanging right next to it. Our dispatcher had advised her to leave the house and not touch it. Made the old lady think we were going to call out the bomb squad like it was a leaking stick of TNT. She was floored when I just casually grabbed the ammo can and started rifling through it.

Ex-PH2

Not even gonna take $.01 of that bet.

He missed the entire point of the 2nd Amendment: it gives you the right to own guns, but does NOT say you have to have even one.

Freedom of choice. They miss it every time.

Ex-PH2

I think I have a story there. Let me see ——–>

ChipNASA

Same thing happened to me.
I had an unexpected negligent discharge at a local high school while handling my gun.

Problem was, ya see, I wasn’t a student, teacher or administrator, and that’s probably why they called the Police.

😀 😀 😉 😉

rgr769

Just further evidence that progs should not be allowed to possess firearms. Exhibit A is that black DEA cop in the video above.

rip

a teachers job is to teach, not shoot!any guns in school should be had only by LEO! if need be LEO should be in all schools! aa very bad idea indeed to give a teacher a gun!

J.R.

Yep; because the people we entrust with our children’s safety and futures CERTAINLY can’t be trusted with the same tools as the small business owner across the street

Hondo

Methinks “rip” here has a problem with reading comprehension as well as logic. He/she apparently also missed the part about this teacher being a LEO.

2/17 Air Cav

Reading comprehension may be the least of her problems, Hondo.

Hondo

I’d guess you’re correct.

WarEagle82

This guy pretty much epitomizes the stupidity of government at every level in the state of California. Education, Law Enforcement, and Local Elected Officials. If he is the best they have to offer, no wonder the place has crashed and burned.

Green Thumb

This idiot should be terminate for a ND.

Period.

Green Thumb

Reserve Officer as well.

No surprise.

Either way, terminate them for incompetence.

Nastyleg

Several questions here.
1 why was his finger on the damn trigger in the first place?!
2 did this pistol have a safety?
3 what on God’s green earth was going through this numbnuts’ head that thought him using a hot weapon to demonstrate with was a good idea to begin with?!
4 why is this guy an elected official?!
5 does this count as an attempted murder or reckless discharge of a weapon resulting in bodily harm? Child endangerment? Causing willful damage to a government building that resulted in bodily harm?
6 what kind of charges is this skid mark of a human being looming at?

rgr769

Here are your answers:
1. He is a progtard.
2. If it has a safety, this progtard likely doesn’t know how to operate it.
3. Not much; progtards don’t think; they just emote.
4. He is a progtard politico in Mexifornia.
5. No and No. Yes. No (doesn’t meet the legal definition of willful).
6. There will be no charges because he is a progtard in a full progtard state.

I think I answered all your questions.

Is no one going to suggest that these armed school protectors should carry empty chamber?
I know all of you are veterans and can handle a loaded gun
But these guys are amateurs !
Negligent discharges are all too common, even among experienced gunners
I get a lot of hate on the gun blogs whenever I admit to “Israeli carry”
But a gun with an empty chamber CANNOT discharge
I know all the possible drawbacks that to rack a slide is 2 seconds slower, takes two hands and can be short stroked
There are far more n d’s than school shootings
I have concluded that the extra safety is worth those drawbacks when I carry daily.
It seems like a good idea for these knuckleheads to have an empty chamber
At least they will have a gun. They can rack the slide when the time comes
