James Eric Davis Jr arrested for parents’ murder

| March 3, 2018

According to the Chicago Tribune, James Eric Davis Sr, a police officer and an Iraq War veteran while he was serving in the Illinois National Guard for 24 years, and his wife Diva Jeneen Davis, a cancer survivor, were murdered by their son, 19-year-old James Eric Davis Jr when they came to the campus of Central Michigan University to pick him up for Spring Break yesterday.

After several hours on the run, the younger Davis was hospitalized for drug problems.

People who knew the family called Davis Jr. “respectful” and “a good kid” and his parents “upstanding,” and said they saw no obvious signs of trouble with the teenager, who was a sophomore at the school in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
James Eric Davis Jr.

“He was a good kid, always,” said Deantre DeYoung, 20, who met Davis Jr. when they were high school freshmen at Plainfield South High School and had kept in touch. “You would never expect something like this to come from James.”

And, yet, there he was. An underage teen in possession of a firearm and now being treated for what is probably a drug overdose. I’m guessing that he had a handgun, because if it was a rifle, we would have heard about it. I’m also guessing that he got possession of the handgun by illegal means, because the media and the police aren’t discussing it.

What the fuck?

Fyrfighter

apparently in this case, the apple fell quite a distance from the tree… RIP to parents..

The apple may not fall far from the tree, but some of them take freaky long bounces.

(RIP to the parents. Not a dig at them. )

Sapper3307

The parents finally told him “NO and Bad” so the retaliated.

Maybe dad told him he wasn’t bringing his bag of dope home for Spring break. Maybe we need some laws barring theft of gunz and murdering people with them. Action Now!!! Never Again!!!

Slick Goodlin

“Good kid…respectful”

To paraphrase General “Buck” Turgidson:

Well Sir, Jimmy Junior has invalidated THAT idea!

SSG Whiskey Tango

That story sure vanished from the news fast…

The gun in question was a handgun registered to the shooter’s now deceased father, according to a Chicago news station: http://abc7chicago.com/cmu-shooting-gun-registered-to-suspects-father/3169252/

If you dig into the numbers, the majority of shot cops are shot with their own gun.

Thus the modern “security holster” and training on “weapon retention”.

A wise officer of my acquaintance said ” all street encounters can be gunfights. You brought a gun, and the other guy may fight.”

Reverend Pointyhead

So are we gonna finnally ban drugs or what?

Mason

Ban children.

Some sick idiots seem to be trying to do that…

Junior’s room mate said that Junior was supposed to be going to Florida for Spring Break. But, he O.D.’d Thursday night. He ended up in the hospital in Mt. Pleasant about 1am, and the CMU PD contacted mom and said he was acting weird,, as in drug weird. Mom said it was possible, as he had a history of drug use.
Mom & Dad showed up Friday morning, probably told junior he wasn’t going to Florida, likely he was going to rehab, and the murders happened. Though why Dad carried a gun, but left it in the car while they were in the dorm, so junior could go down to the car and get it, who knows. Maybe it was that whole “Gun Free Zone” thing?
Fox 17 has a pretty good timeline for what happened. http://fox17online.com/2018/03/03/cmu-authorities-update-community-on-events-that-led-up-to-james-davis-jr-s-arrest/

Spare / “car gun” ?

rgr769

Bet Jr. knew the gun was in the car, retrieved it, entered the dorm and shot his parents, who were still packing up his stuff. Sometimes, trigger locks are necessary. Lesson learned: Don’t leave an unsecured loaded gun in your ride.

There are no words to describe this loss. My heart goes out to the family.
I’m sorry to say, society owes this kid retributive justice at the end of a needle while strapped to a gurney.

I have to disagree. Instead, once the young murderer is clean, he will realize what he did and start his time in Hell right here on earth.

David

I would respectfully disagree, anyone who would murder his own parents is a sick little shit, from whom society should be 100% protected. I know of no other method which is 100% effective.

Drugs demonstrably screw up the mind.

-any- human can become a depraved killer. We have free will, and none of us are immune to temptation or madness.

Look at what happens to humans raised without proper parenting.

The kid may have warped himself on stupid drug choices. Some of that shit induced paranoia and psychosis.

And once you are hooked, the first thing to go is good judgement.

I can’t drink alcohol. Stuff makes me stupid, cranky, and depressed. Thus I abstain. But lots of good folk make themselves into total fuckheads with it, because they cannot figure out “quit”.

Genetics? Character flaw? I have hardly a clue. But I give such folks slack because – cannot walk that path myself.

But at some point, you have to admit a problem. And -do- something to curb the habit. And the family and friends sometimes are the worst at denial and enabling behavior.

It is a complex and dark realm. If you truly gaze into it, Neitzsche’s abyss will gaze right back.

Madness in a bag, often provided by “friends”.

FatCircles0311

So much for gun laws preventing crime.

I find it ridiculous Michigan honors Illinois carry permit but illonis doesn’t honor Michigan’s. I expect better from my state.

11B-Mailclerk

Think of it as setting a good example.

“See? No harm in rational behavior. “

Lori

THE FATHER MORE THAN LIKELY WAS RESPECTING MICHIGAN LAW.HE WAS A BELLWOOD PT POLICE OFFICER WHO COULDNT CARRY THE GUN ON CAMPUS BUT DAVIS SR ALSO WAS A FT VETERAN AFFAIRS POLICE OFFICER IN CHICAGO WHICH IS A GOVERNMENT POLICE OFFICER AND TRUTHFULLY COULD OF KEPT HIS GUN ON HIM BUT INSTEAD LEFT IT SECURED IN HIS CAR OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE CAMPUS IM QUITE SURE THE SON KNEW WHERE HE LEFT IT.WITH WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH HIS SON AND THE DRUGS HE WASNT THINKING CLEARLY AND IM POSITIVE THAT THE LAST THING HE WAS WORRIED ABOUT WAS HIS SON GOING TO THE CAR AND GET HIS GUN AND COME BACK AND KILL HIS WIFE AND HIM…ITS JUST SAD.RIP TO HIS PARENTS AND I PRAY FOR THEIR FAMILY THAT I KNOW IS TRULY DEVASTATED AND I PRAY FOR THE SON BECAUSE WHEN THE REALIZATION OF KILLING HIS PARENTS HIT HIM HE’S NOT GOING TO BE THE SAME EVER AGAIN.

Steve1371

Full reciprocity nation wide and end free fire whoops, gun free rights excluded zones.

11B-Mailclerk

While certainly good ideas on their own, such changes would likely not have impacted this case.

As a cop, he can pretty much carry as he pleases. He can get paperwork to facilitate it. Even if carrying “on a wing and a prayer” most fellow badges will give him a pass unless there is actual gunplay.

He was shot with his own gun.

The parents misjudged Jr’s state of mind, and drug habit, probably during a big trip on the river De-Nile. Or kid just got a bag cut with something weird.

Green Thumb

Sad.
