Tyler Rai Barriss wanted in Canada for SWAT inquiry

| January 11, 2018

Tyler Rai Barriss, the LA man who is being extradited to Kansas for a “swatting” call that he made to police in Kansas, is also wanted by Calgary police in their investigation of an incident that happened a week prior to the Kansas tragedy according to the LA Times.

The 911 call to Calgary police is eerily similar to the emergency call to Kansas authorities that led to the killing of an innocent man.

The Calgary Police Service alleges that Barriss called 911 around 7:40 p.m. and told an operator he killed his father and was holding his mom and younger brother hostage in the 2300 block of 17b Street S.W.

Calgary tactical officers descended on the neighborhood of the address the caller gave, evacuating the surrounding area before a woman at the home also called police to warn them she believed she was target of a fake call designed to produce a massive police response. The woman came out of the house and officers confirmed that the initial report of a shooting and hostage scenario was false.

Creepy little shit.

Someone did that to one of our readers a few years back. They called the police and said that he was contemplating suicide. He was able to convince the responding officers that he wasn’t a danger to anyone at the time. Thankfully.

It sure looks that way, great minds think alike!

NHSparky

Sadly, he pulled this shit in CA and got sentenced to prison time then as well.

Guess either CA didn’t give him enough anal dilation therapy or he missed it and wants more.

Fjardeson

Hope he gets the whole-hog membership to the BTJT Deli for this crap. This garbage hurts both LEO’s, citizens, and the trust between both.

Total (expletive deleted).

The Stranger

Not for nothing, but the Calgary PD can wait their turn. I want this fuck to do time in an American prison; we’ve seen what the Canucks do with felons. Omar Khadr, anyone?

A Proud Infidel®™

Put him in an American prison first, then let the Canucks have him.

USAF Ret

Problem is who is going to pay for the sphincter tightening surgery that he is going to need after US prison and before Canadian prison?

Those needle dicks up north will just bounce off the edges after BTJT get finished with him.

The Stranger

Hold on, let me see if I have any fucks to give….

That is something that Tyler will never say in prison.

Dude has a little Roswell DNA in him…why didn’t he simply liquidate his online gaming opponents with a ray gun?

Because he pulled that shit at Roswell, did a swatting call with his grey buddies, sending them to the armory, almost starting an interstellar war, simply because he couldn’t handle getting his ass kicked in a video game, or in debate. Can’t win, so SWAT the victor. 🙄 Got kicked out of Roswell, and became persona non grata to the greys. 🙄

He looks like he belongs in the circus freak show as a back-up for Zippy the pinhead. I’m guessing he has a low 70’s IQ.

Jonn said I would be back and you know Jonn. The only time I have known him to be wrong was about 10 years ago when he mistakenly thought he was wrong.

So, does anybody here have fresh statistics on police shootings?

I was following the rabbit hole on this Wichita shootings, and Daily News claims that in the US there are 35.5 deaths by police shooting per million people compare to only about 0.08 per million in Europe.

I guarantee you this statistic is misleading. I want to confirm that.

RightSaidFed

I think what you are referring is the total death rate per million citizens, including homicides, all arrest-related deaths, and custodial deaths, across all countries. There aren’t any truly comprehensive statistics, but yeah, that’s pretty much the ballpark. In fact, it’s a pretty conservative estimate.

And if you compare lethal shootings (which, again, will be a low figure) between the the United States and Western Europe, the rates aren’t any closer. In fact, the U.S. may out Taser people to death than LE in many other countries kill by all means combined.

As for why, well, that’s probably determined by one’s priors. By and large, however, our foreign LE partners are generally aghast by how quickly U.S. resort to lethal force.

2/17 Air Cav

First of all, there are no comprehensive, reliable data on shootings by police. Different US and foreign entities, none impartial, compile data and publish. From there, the stuff takes on a life of its own. This is a helluva can of worms. What percentage of shootings by police are not justified? Are there data on the number of instances in which police could have used deadly force but did not? Are there data on the number of instances in which police should have used deadly force but did not–or hesitated–and lost their lives? This business about comparing police-involved shootings among “developed nations” is absolute bullshit. There are far too many unaccounted variables for a reasonable comparison.

RightSaidFed

No, there aren’t comprehensive statistics.*

But, we have a very good idea of the floor (various sources, including the BJS, find ~ 1,100 arrested-related homicides year in the U.S. for the past couple years). And, given (a) the more centralized structure in European and other developed countries, and (b) drastically fewer police homicides in almost every other country, the published data elsewhere is generally pretty reliable. (The same is true with custody-related deaths. Given the sheer volume of people jailed/taken into custody in the U.S. compared to elsewhere, that’s a given.)

The question was whether the cited statistic is reasonably accurate. It indisputably is (or, if anything, understates the disparity). It’s almost on par with asking “does the U.S. really imprison that many more people?” Why is irrelevant. And, as noted, depends on your priors. (Although:
1. the rate of situations in which force (verbal or physical) is used — about 50,000,000 encounters per year, here;
2. the sheer volume of firearms (possed by both citizens and LE); and
3. the generally lower tolerance for police use-of-force elsewhere
are certainly likely factors.)

*Not a point in our favor, FYI.
