Judd Legum is obviously not a veteran
I haven’t weighed in on the discussion of Roy Moore one way or the other, well, until this obvious piece of shit from Judd Legum in Think Progress. It’s a story told by one of Moore’s wartime buddies, Bill Staehle, the other night. Staehle and Moore went to a “private club” with another soldier who was leaving Vietnam the next day and had invited them along.
Staehle said that, when he and Moore arrived, they soon realized the man had taken them to a brothel. The third man, Staehle suggested, essentially tricked them. “I could tell you what I saw but I don’t want to,” Staehle said mischievously.
“There were certainly pretty girls. And they were girls. They were young. Some were very young,” Staehle acknowledged. But according to Staehle, Moore was shocked by what he saw. “We shouldn’t be here, I’m leaving,” Moore said, according to Staehle.
They asked the third man to leave with them but he didn’t want to. So Staehle and Moore took his Jeep and left him there all night with sex workers, who they agreed were underage. The man returned to base the next morning on the back of a motorcycle, Staehle said with a grin.
Staehle viewed this story as a triumphant example of Moore’s sterling moral character. Although Staehle hasn’t seen Moore in 45 years, he said, “He’s the same guy… He’s honorable. He’s disciplined. Morally straight. Highly principled.”
Yeah, well, since this is Think Progress, you know that Legum didn’t see the story the same way that Staehle editorialized.
In other words, he’s the kind of guy who might end up at a brothel with underage sex trafficking victims, but only by accident.
Yeah, well, I guess Legum has never been overseas and blindly followed friends into the darkness to finally arrive at a distasteful destination. It happened to me more than once. If Moore hadn’t un-assed the AyOh, Legum might have a point, but he did, so STFU, weasel-dick. Go find a real story.

My math and logic are/is very simple.
As a matter of perspective, Think Progress is a weblog started and controlled by The Center for American Progress. CAP itself was started by John Podesta, former chief-of-staff for Bill Clinton. He’s also the dummy who fell for the email phishing scheme that revealed Hillary Clinton and Debbie Wasserman Schultz had rigged the Democratic primaries against Bernie Sanders.
After that embarrassing fiasco, it sort of indicates a level of desperation when somebody like Think Progress’ editor-in-chief Judd Legum finds it necessary to do a weakly-sourced political hit piece on a Senate race in Alabama. It’s also becoming apparent that progressives have started to adopt a certain sanctimonious religious piety now that it helps provide an edge.
There seems to be a strange meme lately that all those soiled doves in Viet Nam amounted to virtual sex slaves. Things didn’t really work that way. It so happens I spent considerable time with the Vietnamese at multiple levels, and there was a difference in cultural context. The ARVN and civilian police, for example, seemed to take the pragmatic view that war and hookers go together like biscuits and gravy. There were going to be cathouses regardless. Therefore, the best thing was to keep track of them, what was going on, as well as making sure the bac si showed up once a week with the VD shots.
All of the Vietnamese I ever ran across likely would have drawn the line at allowing sex-for-hire with minors. Which means Staehle’s account might fail a sniff check.

What the liberal media and CNN (of course) are not reporting is the age of consent in Alabama is 16 and has been since at least 1975, probably earlier. While it is distasteful to me, it is still legal if they consent.
I have to admit, it’s entertaining to see the self-appointed intelligentsia, opinion-makers in the press and vapid talking heads in Hollywood fail again and again to prevent conservative politicians from being elected, even when they expend every round of ammunition in their rhetorical arsenal.
I think that what the coastal media elites have failed to understand is that
(a) with the plethora of alternative information sources, they no longer control the public narrative the way they used to and
(b) that accusations of racism or sexual harassment or impropriety lose their power when they are used so indiscriminately and in such a blatantly political manner.
Or to put it another way, if EVERYBODY is a racist, then being a “racist” means NOTHING. If EVERYBODY is a sexual harasser, or predator, then that, too, means nothing.
Furthermore, when such accusations are hurled at absolutely everyone on the opposing side, whether justified or not, then it’s easy for the public to dismiss them as mere political name calling – and, again, it loses any real meaning.
The democrats and the media have simply gone to the well one time too many with this type of accusation.
My guess is that if Moore wins the left will simply double-down on the head-asplody vitriol, name calling and declarations that everyone to the right of Hillary is “literally worse than Hitler.”

I’m neither a Trump supporter nor am I a fan of the obviously biased media and the self-appointed “great minds” in academia, Hollywood or the commentariat. So WRT the Trump vs The Establishment fight, I don’t really side with either faction.
The reality is that Trump says a lot of things that are provably, verifiably false and he seems to have zero impulse control.
But the funniest thing about the whole battle royale between Trump and the media is that Trump keeps calling the media biased and agenda driven, and the media’s response is … to become even MORE biased and agenda driven.
Trump calls the media names and says they have a personal vendetta against him, and the media responds by acting exactly like someone who has a personal vendetta against Trump.
And these guys who think they are so smart don’t realize that they are being played. They are undermining their own efforts by acting exactly like Trump constantly accuses them of acting.
And the vapid thinkers in the media don’t seem to be able to comprehend that the more they are perceived by the general public as having a personal animus against Trump, the more hollow their accusations sound.
No matter how much “proof” they think they have of Trump’s wrongdoing, if the accusations are seen as being politically motivated they lose their sting.
That’s Trump’s “genius.” He goads the opposition into getting personal, and once they get personal and lose even the smallest shred of objectivity, they also lose any credibility and become just another player on the political field.

One of the Assistant Scoutmasters of a Troop I worked with for years was a WWII vet from Anzio and beyond.
As he got older, he started to forget what were appropriate stories to tell around young boys. But some of the actions the Italian girls resorted to in order to feed themselves and their families were pretty sad.
Thailand is reported to be especially bad about very young rural girls lured into brothels on false pretenses. I know a missionary to the area that does part of her ministry to those very girls.
