From Milford, Massachusetts;
Four men who forced their way into a Tina Road home Sunday armed with machetes, a pipe and a crowbar fled after the resident pulled a gun and a dog bit one of the intruders, authorities said.
Two of those men were arrested and arraigned Wednesday.
Quinn Moran, 24, of 16 Little Tree Lane, Bellingham, and John Fegan, 34, of 9 Oakwood Drive, Webster, were charged with home invasion and possession of a Class D controlled substance with intent to distribute charges, police said.
Moran was also charged with assault and battery and malicious destruction of property worth over $250.
Fegan was charged with being an accessory after the fact, authorities said.
The other day, we talked about the home invasion in Sanilac County, Michigan during which the homeowner shot and killed two intruders. Today we read that a third thief took himself out with the trash;
Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki said Wednesday that 47-year-old Stephen Shimmel of Flint was found dead in his cell. He was being held after being arraigned Tuesday on 11 charges.
Apparently, Mr Shimmel hanged himself in his cell.
From Columbus, Ohio;
According to a press release, a 29-year-old man was in a home in the 1500 block of Granville Street when two people broke into his home. The suspects sprayed the man with pepper spray and demanded property.
A struggle ensued and one of the suspects dropped a loaded handgun. The victim picked up the gun and fired at the suspects, shooting one of them several times.
The suspects, both male and white, ran to a waiting vehicle and drove to Maryland Avenue where the uninjured suspect fled the scene.
The man who was shot was transported to Grant Medical Center and was taken into surgery. The man is in critical but stable condition.
From Douglasville, Georgia;
According to police, a store clerk shot a would-be robber at a gas station located on the 6500 block of Bankhead Highway.
The store clerk called 911 and advised that a suspect had pointed a handgun at him. The store clerk was able to retrieve his own gun and shot the suspect.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a suspect on the ground in front of the store, suffering from a single gunshot wound.
The store clerk was not injured.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

In that first story: is the dog okay? No PTSD from having to bite a burglar?
These guys aren’t very good at what they do, are they? Store clerks seem to be getting some range time for accuracy in repelling bad guys. Dogs participate in repelling home invaders. Some dork took himself “out with the trash”. (Nice pun, there.) They’re just not having a lot of success these days.
And the strangest part of this? Crime is down in Englewood, of all places.
Don’t you just love it when problems solve themselves?

Shimmel’s departure was like watching a baseball game with no score, ’till in the bottom of the 9th, there is a grand slam winning the game.

GREENLEAF TWP, MI — A man who was charged with felonies related to the robbery and shootout at a medical marijuana grow operation that resulted in two of his cohorts being killed, hung himself in jail shortly after being arraigned, according to police.
Sanilac County Sheriff Garry M. Biniecki said Stephen Vance Shimmel, 47, of Flint, was found hanging in the corner of a single-person cell he was placed in shortly after being arraigned on robbery, conspiracy, home invasion, felony firearm and other felonies for the home invasion and shootout that occurred on Nov. 19 in Greenleaf Township.
Biniecki said that Shimmel was pronounced deceased at the jail at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21 from “self-inflicted injuries.”
According to Biniecki, the majority of the cell is viewable by a security camera and checks were conducted on a regular basis.
From the last time Shimmel was seen moving on the camera to the last cell check which was less than 15 minutes, Shimmel was found hanging in the cell outside of the view of the camera, according to Biniecki.
Deputies freed Shimmel and performed CPR until paramedics arrived, however, he was not able to be revived, according to Biniecki.
“We are saddened by this unfortunate incident and offer our condolences to the family,” Biniecki said. “We are working diligently to answer the family’s questions with transparency to bring them closure.”
Offering condolences to the family? WTF.
Dang – hanging himself in his cell, conveniently out of view of the camera? Sounds a bit extreme, but then if he was committing slow suicide by using drugs and hanging with criminals, he was gonna die at his own hand eventually anyway.
A machete a pipe and a crowbar walk into a bar….
