From Winter Springs, Florida;

An accused burglar trying to break into a Winter Springs home Thursday was thwarted by an armed homeowner, officials with the Winter Springs Police Department said.

Police said they received a 911 call from the homeowner on Lisa Loop at 6:15 a.m. who informed them he had just fired two shots from a handgun at a person trying to enter his home from the back porch. The 17-year-old suspect was not hit or injured.

BNG sends us a link from Orlando, Florida;

The Loomis cash-handling company employee was exchanging money in an ATM in the back of a Wawa at 4700 S. Goldenrod Road when a man approached him from behind shortly before 4 p.m., said Sgt. Eduardo Bernal, Orlando Police Department spokesman.

The robbery suspect squirted pepper spray at the Loomis worker to disorient him, he said. The employee pulled out his handgun and fired one round into the suspect’s chest.

“[Pepper spray] debilitates you and it blinds you,” Bernal said. “The fact that he was able to not only shoot a round but actually strike the subject is miraculous.”

He said the wounded suspect was detained inside the store and was conscious when authorities arrived.

Both men were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The man who was shot was in critical but stable condition and is expected to survive. Bernal said he will be charged with armed robbery when he is released from the hospital.

Chief Tango sends a link from Mobile, Alabama;

According to MPD, on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at approximately 8:49 PM, police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Olive Court in reference to one shot.

The 24-year-old male victim was located and pronounced deceased on the scene.

Lederrick Collier, 23, showed up at Springhill Medical Center with a gunshot wound.

Collier stated someone tried to rob him in the area of Olive Court and he shot the suspect.

The case was discussed with the DA’s Office and the decision was made not to charge Collier at this time.

From Hillsboro, Oregon;

Police say that resident returned home around 8 p.m. Thursday to find someone broken in. They got in by breaking the back window of the home, and got away with a $100,000 1969 Mercedes that was parked in the garage.

The homeowner then covered both broken windows with plastic, and went to bed.

Hours later, he was awoken around 3 a.m. Friday after hearing noises coming from the back of the house. He walked toward the kitchen, where he found an intruder using a knife to cut through the plastic sheet. Police say the homeowner then fired a warning shot at the burglar, who fled the scene.

It’s unclear whether the same suspect is related to both incidents.

From St Louis, Missouri;

About 6:45 p.m., a robbery victim and two people believed to be suspects in the crime were injured in an exchange of gunfire, police said. The incident happened in the parking lot of a gas station near North Florissant Avenue and Madison Street just inside the St. Louis Place neighborhood.

Police said the robbery victim was shot in the shoulder and returned fire, hitting one suspect in the leg and the other in the stomach.

All three men were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Lt. Ken Lammert said at the scene.

The robbery victim was first in line to buy something at the gas station, which serves customers through a window, when another man walked up behind him and took a gun the victim had in a pants pocket, Lammert said.

The victim has a concealed-carry permit, he said. The gun was in a front pants pocket but visible to the alleged robber.

The robber started to back away to a car with an accomplice, when the victim pulled a second gun on him, Lammert said. The suspect shot the victim with the gun he had taken and the victim returned fire, hitting both the robber and his accomplice.

From Miller County, Arkansas;

The 81-year-old who owns the home where the shooting occurred says the man had a gun and was trying to rob him.

“Whoever got the biggest gun and fastest will be boss when it is all said and done. … In this case, it was me.”

And Buddy Cates says he has been robbed a half dozen times in the past 10 months.

A Sheriff’s Office spokesman has confirmed for KSLA News 12 that deputies have responded to multiple calls to his home.

The shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Cates’ residence on Genoa Road (Arkansas Highway 196) at Miller County Road 290 in Genoa.

That’s about a quarter mile west of Genoa Grocery.

The wounded man was taken to a Texarkana hospital, where he later died. Authorities have yet to release his name.

“I walked outside the door, and he was standing right there with a big pistol,” Cates recalled. “I had my hand in my pocket on my pistol, and the battle was on.”

Authorities say multiple shots were fired.

Cates estimates that he and the other man each fired their guns six to eight times.

Detectives recovered two guns at the scene of the shooting.

The homeowner has been interviewed by Miller County sheriff’s detectives.

No charge has been filed.
