you will appreciate this. The shot line started on the hanger bay right after the pay line was done, so on the shot line, I used to see which table I was heading for being on alert for a new boot Corpsman right out of A school giving the shots because I didn’t want the needle broke et. The problem was that the shot line was as crooked as a snakes hind leg and I saw the new boot at the table I was heading too so I just got off of the line and waited for the mssg. over the 1MC for me and sometimes others to report to the now empty shot line. Hope this brings back some memories.

I saw the 37F PSYOP (no “S” at end), she could’ve been an SFC by now if she had her act together. 🙄
…but – but- but it was so HARD, and the guy who yelled at us was so MEAN!!!! I couldn’t focus on anything. I couldn’t even pick the corn out of my mashed potatoes int he chow hall.
That’s another thing that she was “fighting for”, picking things out of her food was a struggle, she had to fight through the food on her tray… probably puts her into the fetal position today just thinking about all of that… 🙄
With 41 days of total time, our little trainee discharge here is well below the gunga dan line, but still above the 29 days put in by the recently-featured Paul Bennett Knox, the phony Vietnam wounded SEAL from Louisiana…
With that time in service, she can’t even call herself a “veteran”. 🙄
I have more time at Ft. Wolters, as a W.O.C., awaiting assignment to a training flight (which I promptly failed, resulting in assignment to Ft. Gordon, Georgia, for M.P. AIT. Which I did pass, eight months after enlisting.)
In the RAN, a recruit can take an optional discharge at 64 days. This sorry excuse for a “veteran” couldn’t even do that. I call COW

I realize that I’m preaching to the choir. But this is why so many legitimate veterans have so much disdain for people like her, and the politicians I might add who lie about being a veteran.

Part of her time was spent at “reception” doing in-processing, the other part of that time was spent doing out-processing.
Michelle L. Magnuson, is not a veteran, and the only things that she “fought for” while in the service was getting to the shitters, stalls, and shower during hygiene, the chow line to get her food, and the administration lines to get her shots and do her paperwork.
I am barely willing or able to call her a “discharged trainee”; it’s more appropriate to label her a “reception station reject”…

This sounds like a brother in law of mine (married to my wife’s sister).
Guy was chaptered out at AIT (light wheeled vehicle mechanic) in 1998 for failure to pass multiple APFT’s, he still calls himself a veteran because he completed basic training and has an NDSM on his DD-214 and his discharge was “General under honorable conditions”.
Now he’s honest, when he talks about his service (ie he tells people he never completed his training and was kicked out for being lazy and not doing PT) but he gets really hot when people talk about veterans affairs, or what’s best for veterans, or what we should do/how we should show support for our veterans.
He still considers himself part of that community even though he’s not legally eligible for any benefits. And to his credit, as far as I know, he’s never tried to claim any.
But holy hell he gets hot when people start dropping lines like:
“Speaking for all veterans…”
“Veterans are all…”
“Veterans should be allowed…”
Etc.
He’s more passionate about it than I am, or most other veterans i know.

One month, if that, of basic training… I suspect some of it spent in sick time since we all know how long it takes to get processed out. I would think it takes roughly 2-4 weeks.

Not exactly. During my AD days on Fort Benning they had a “Joe Sale” once a month where they sold off the uniforms taken from Joes that washed out of Basic and AIT. When I did Engineer OSUT in 1991 those who were ELS’ed had to turn in EVERY bit of uniforms issued to them including underwear and t shirts (not offered at the “Joe Sales”) so thus she left “Relaxin’ Jackson” with nothing but civvies and YES if they didn’t have it at turn in they signed a Statement of Charges!

I noticed some time ago that everyone these days seems to be an expert with grenades. Now, looking at her 2-1 that seems to be a standard entry and I have to wonder what the qualification is. At Polk in ’63 we got exactly one live grenade. And while mine landed among the tires they wanted me to throw at, I doubt that made me an expert.
Maybe it’s supposed to be ‘grenadine’ instead of ‘grenade’?
In theory, you throw a live grenade and run the grenade qualification course, where you throw a simulator (has the fuse and goes pop) at six targets. If I remember right its two standing, two kneeling, and two prone at 20 to 25 meters. The targets are a bunker, troops in the open, troops in a building, a trench/foxhole (?), and a plywood APC.
I was told that i failed, because after i threw the grenade from the prone position, I failed to cover my weapon with my body. (To protect it from any resulting debris, doncha know…) – however, it seems that all of the qual sheets had been pre-printed with “Go” because I got the same expert qualification as each and every other Joe Snuffy out there that day.
Kind of knocked the shine off that “Expert” designation for me.
I got to throw one grenade in Basic.
Over a wall. No idea what was on the other side but I heard a boom so I’m an expert. I guess.
AP: don’t think she was there long enough to qual on anything – and her DD214 doesn’t list any awards/badges/tabs. I think the entries for Rifle and Grenade on her PQR are preprinted, and the type of badge (Expert, Sharpshooter, etc . . . ) are entered following those after the individual actually qualifies.
Hondo: Was wondering about that when I did the math and took in condideration the time she spent at Jackson at the Reception Station. When I saw the 2 Qualification Badges listed on her records, I thought perhaps she did start Basic Training, perhaps a week after being in the Reception Station, but was scratching my head trying to figure out how she trained and qualified with the M16 and Hand Grenade during the 3rd (???) week of BT, because I don’t remember doing it that early. Then I noticed she was assigned to the 120th AG BN, which IS the Reception Station…and it dawned on me that most likely, she spent her entire time at Jackson at the Reception Station. Did not realize those remarks under awards/decorations were preprinted, so I was wrong in stating she earned those two Qualification Badges. My guess on her discharge was PT failure or possibly losing it (home sickness, peer pressure, depression with thoughts of suicide or actually trying to committ suicide, failure to adjust, insubordination or simply changing her mind about being in the Army) during her time in the Reception Station and then perhaps was committed in a Mental Ward in a Military Hospital and finally chaptered out. I have also seen Soldiers get hurt or have injuries while in the Reception Station(stress fractures the most) and spend alot of time in sick call and were chaptered out. According to what I read under Title 38 of the CFR, she is considered a veteran if she had an honorable discharge, which we can’t tell since that portion of her records were blacked out. Wbich means she may be entitled to some VA benefits, that is, if she had an honorable discharge. I don’t think she knew what she was doing when she signed up and may have been enticed by the incentive bonus, i.e. $$$. Don’t know if 9-11 played as a factor or if she needed $$$ for college or was running away from a bad relationship or just wanted “hero attention” or wanted to go to Bragg to be… Read more »
