Another Sporkmaster photo
I saw this photo from Sporkmaster this morning and it deserved a post of it’s own. The image he’s captured here reflects the hatred that the Iraqis have for Americans and our culture – a hatred born from our mistreatment of them, their land and their religion through our long occupation. Who can dispute the need to withdraw our troops from there yesterday after seeing this display of disrespect for what we’ve done to the Iraqis.
I put the photo below the jump so as not to disturb the gentle sensibilities of accidental visitors to this blog who might not be able to stomach the horror that Sporkmaster has captured in this image;
The bunny ears of death.

That photo right there made the entire convoy of going 5-10 MPH for over 25-30K worth it.
Some one had the good idea to have use follow route clearance and we would do rapid crater repair. Long story short the idea did not work because we would take too long to do what we needed to do and route clearance takes a long time any ways. Saw a lot of stuff and my camera battery was about dead.
So almost home about 5k to go to get back to JBB and they find something. (Turned out to be a UXO(Unexploded Ordinance). 60mm mortar shell that was very exposed. SO we got a chance to talk to the CLCs (Concerned Local Citizens) because of the time of year we give them cooler water when we can spare it. (HUMMVs are not that great for cargo space). So they asked if we had any cigarettes but we just had chew to which they politely declined. Then I asked if I could take some photos, which they are happy to agree to. I have three total of the group and the one posed made the entire trip worth while.
Also I have a photo of they guy behind him posing with his rifle and I have no idea what it is. It is not a AK series and not American. I was wondering if I could send that photo to see if anybody knows what it is.
Part of our un-written Hummer load plan was a cooler full of ice…filled with water,gator-aid and kool-aid…very nice thing to have when its 145degrees and doin 5 hour patrols in the hood…..lol
Well we did have it ether attached to the turret or we would put it in the empty rear passenger seat. But the days when we had a full five, the cooler was put in the back. Yea getting to that was a real pain.
But the never MRAPs have a lot more room and the AC is much better. Rather then a quarter of you body freezing and the rest of your body burning up, it is a nice even proportion.
We just had M998’s and M1024-25’s. Gotta love an M998 with 3/8″ steel plate for doors and no windows and a regular windshield, and 2 layers of 3/8″ steel plate on the bed. POS of a truck but it was nice to use for house raids. Crowd in the back of it, pull it up to the wall of the yard, and jump over. LOL…damn….im still alive? lol
Nice, I never did anything that exciting, I am with a construction engineer unit so we do not deal with hostile fire very often. When we do it is more often a IED that we hit because we where told to take a Dozer and make a path to what ever the Infantry needed to go to. We had one guy hit three ieds in a 15 min time frame and another time one guy cut the command wire before he realized that there was 6 IED/UXO combo meal that he took offline. The BC wanted to congratulate him in person because of it.
The HMMWV that we used. M1151, the IA use more of the M1141.

Did your HMV have a DUKE anti-IED system on it?
One of the First MRAPs that we started to use. I works but it is a rough ride if the driver handles it like a car. Also it is kinda top heavey for its own good, something that they seem to have addressed on the other models.

The IA do some interesting things as far as paint jobs for their HMV fleet. (M1141 in photo)

Even the IAs are getting into the MRAP action.

Nawwww…our IED detector was a M240 Gunner or when one blew up. lol. We usually would be doin like 70mph most of the time down the main highway so that helped out a lot in not being hit. Dumbshits don’t know how to lead targets….thank god…lol
We have a lot more toys to help us out. We have the Rhino and DUKE system. The Rhino was a box with glow plugs that was designed to fool IEDs that work of off heat triggers so that if we did set one off it would misses us or just hit the Engine compartment.
The Duke is the system that Jams most wireless communication preventing remote detonation from happening. The range is very good to the point where we can focus on traffic and the people on the streets rather then manly on the ground.
That would be those Jew eating bunny rabbit ears children in Gaza watch in place of Sesame Street?
