From LaPlace, Louisiana;

The unidentified homeowner heard voices in his backyard, and went to investigate.

When the homeowner opened the backdoor, 27-year-old Kalvin Ferrygood entered the home, according to the SJSO.

The homeowner shot Ferrygood.

Responding officers and firefighters administered aid to Ferrygood, and he was transported to a hospital in New Orleans, where he later died of his injuries.

From Winston-Salem, North Carolina;

Following an investigation, officers determined that 79-year-old James Thomas Noah and 77-year-old Barbara Ella Melton were in their apartment when there was a knock on the door.

When Melton opened the door, Reed and an unidentified man forced their way into the residence and began assaulting Noah with a blunt object.

Eventually, Noah was able to draw his handgun from his waistband and shoot Reed in the head, the release says.

The unidentified man fled the apartment in an unknown direction.

Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neil determined that no criminal charges will be sought against Noah.

26-year-old Lourenco Marcus Reed is being treated for the life-threatening gunshot to his empty head.

From Phoenix, Arizona;

Phoenix police report that on Saturday, a man later identified as 44-year-old Virgil Edward Hughes, forced his way into a home near 35th and Dunlap avenues. Police say he broke the door jam and rushed into the home.

The homeowner reported that he saw a handgun on the Hughes’ hip, grabbed his gun and fired one shot, missing Hughes but hitting the wall.

Hughes continued running into the home crashing into the door before turning around and running out the front door.

Police located Hughes in the area and say he was in possession of methamphetamine.

From Clinton County, New Jersey;

Cody J. Englert, 30, forced entry into a home at about 1:50 a.m. Wednesday at 925 4th St. in Pine Creek Township, Clinton County. He was shot by a resident of the home and died at the scene. Police said in a release that the resident who shot Englert is cooperating with investigators.

A story of frontier justice from South Africa when a prisoner escaped from jail and ended up in the hands of vigilantes;

A notorious armed robber and escaped prisoner was allegedly “executed” by community members at Nodwengu, in Ndewedwe, north of Durban, on Thursday.

The man, who was among eight prisoners who escaped from the Verulam police cells recently, was a known armed robber who plundered the local community.

Of the eight who escaped, four were recaptured.

Superintendent Vasie Naidu said the man’s body had been found in dense bush.

“A sack had been tied over his head. A single shot from point blank range went right through his head.”

Naidu said the man was known to be an armed robber and wreaked havoc among members of the community who, it seemed, took revenge.
