Washington Post continues assault on Pentagon
Joe Davidson of the Washington Post continues to attack the Department of Defense because of the names of a number of military posts which are the names of Confederate Generals. Davidson, according to his LinkedIn profile, has never spent a minute in uniform, although he is the correct age to have been drafted during the Vietnam years, if it wasn’t for his college deferments.
His piece today is entitled “Rebel base names, statues disgrace U.S. military facilities and Congress“. I don’t know where he gets the “disgrace” adjective. I’ve been stationed at many of the bases he helpfully lists from the hate-mongering Southern Poverty Law Center which are in the South and named for those long-dead officers of the Confederacies.
No help in solving the “race problem” comes from President Trump, who continues, appallingly, to comfort white nationalists by leveling “blame on both sides” for the Charlottesville violence.
The Confederate tributes — base names, statues and flag representations — revere those who supported the enslavement of African Americans. The display of Confederate symbols today is an affirmation of white supremacy and black oppression. But that is not the only reason all Americans should be outraged.
Even Confederate battle flag-waving racists who consider themselves patriotic should consider the treason the symbols represent.
Yeah, well no help in solving this manufactured dilemma came from the Obama Administration, either. In fact, those bases have existed since the First World War and the names of those bases were never a problem until this year. I wonder why.
Yesterday, 33 people were arrested for committing violence in Boston – they were all on the anti-free speech side of the spectrum. They were throwing bottles and urine at the police. It sounds to me as if Trump’s charge that the blame for violence could be laid “on both sides” is a reasonable assumption.
On March 25th, 1965, Martin Luther King and 50,000 of his followers ended their 54 mile march to Montgomery, Alabama under the protection of federal and National Guard troops who had more than likely been trained at some of those bases that Davidson and the SPLC named as a “disgrace”.
The soldiers who trained at those bases, beat the Kaiser, defeated Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan, drove the North Koreans and Chinese back above the 38th Parallel, fought the Communists in Vietnam, liberated Grenada from communism, defeated narco-terrorist Noriega in Panama, liberated Kuwait from Saddam Hussein and they are currently engaged in the war against terror.
The names of the bases where they trained, the names of the streets that they marched upon, the names of their messhalls, the statues under which they marched never factored into their commitment to the call for their duty, or the call for their lives.
This feigned outrage is nothing but a tempest in a teapot. These same people never would have held President Obama to the standard that they now impose on President Trump. The names of military bases and streets have nothing to do with poverty or the lack of a decent education for young Americans – the things that should really outrage these social justice warriors.
I’d remind everyone that the anti-Confederacy bullshit started with Dylann Roof, the racist fellow who shot 33 Black people in Charleston, SC in hopes that he could start a race war – the anti-free speech folks are just furthering his aims.
Thanks to Chief Tango for the link.

I hated Fort Dix anyway.
They’re still annoyed that whatshername didn’t win and the free stuff isn’t being handed out, and they get paid to do this, anyway. 33 people in Boston out of a US census count of 310++ million is .0000006% or something. They are boring, stupid, and ungrateful for the freedom they have.
But when the 400 nazis that live in this country of 310 million all show up in Charlotteville, it is a national crisis and it turns into “all white people are nazis!”
“No help in solving the “race problem” comes from President Trump, who continues, appallingly, to comfort white nationalists by leveling “blame on both sides” for the Charlottesville violence.”
So then according to him there is NO blame to be placed upon the non-white people, what a weapons-grade IDIOT! Goebbels would proudly accept writers like Joe Davidson into his department.
Form Charles Barkley – I like his way of thinking (and he was a very good b-ball player):

I saw that….he’ll be ostracized for it. Luckily, he’s already independently wealthy.
Many of the libtard mindset have called him an Uncle Tom in the past. I like him because he’s not afraid to tell it like it is.
Bill Cosby is independently wealthy too….
Another self-appointed jackass with no experience regarding the communities he slanders.
SMH
And yet islam, with its slave trader, sex slave trader, child slave raping founder muhammad and islam’s “holy” books on taking, trading and raping slaves gets a pass…
Not one demonstration at a mosque.
Please surrender all those folding paper monuments to slave holders you are storing in your wallet and purses. I be along later for the round metal monuments later 🙂
The bases are a different question that the monuments.
The monuments were predominantly put up during periods of heightened racism (southern resurgence at the end of the 19th century, the Jim Crow era, and the civil rights era) to send a message of defiance by the the south to abandon its racial hierarchy.
The bases, however, were established in order to help unify a fractured national military. The US army needed to draw on the children and grandchildren of Confederate veterans, many that had died during the war, and naming bases after confederate leaders was seen as a means to help bring unity to a military.
That being said; I think we can agree that General Bragg was a terrible general.
Yanno, you can rationalize it all you want, retrospective analysis is a playground for the disingenuous.
I find it funny however, given the time span involved, none of it mattered to the public or the career politicians until…Trump
Yea, I don’t remember hearing about this when Obama was in the White House. But, back them everyone was all worked up about his “sharp creases” and “getting a thrill up their leg”.
“The monuments were predominantly put up during periods of heightened racism (
southernDemocrat resurgence at the end of the 19th century, the Jim Crow era, and the civil rights era) to send a message of defiance by the thesouthDemocrats to abandon its racial hierarchy”. FIFY, Commissar. No need to thank me.Thank you UpNorth…that’s what I was going to say…you said it much better than I could have.
I hearby nominate Commissar as the Turd Soup Conductor of TAH. 👿
Thank you, TC.
He just has to be unconscionably boring, doesn’t he?
If it were winter and beastly cold, the hot air from his direction might lower my heating bills.
You do know who was behind Jim Crow, right, Lars? That doesn’t exactly lend credibility to your side.
HEY Babbles McButhead, let’s see, Fort Benning GA originated as CAMP Benning by Columbus GA to serve as a Training Camp for WWI, and that was when D-rats ruled the roost with Jim Crow laws.
That’s an explanation I’ve never heard. You have anything to back that up?
You know what else I’ve never heard having served at Bragg, my daughter serves at Bragg and living in the South and going to Fayetteville quite often? I’ve never heard anyone say anything about either a statue or the name of a military base. In fact, I bet over 90% of the people have no idea who the bases are named after.
Bragg was a bad General? Who won The Battle of Chicamauga? His problem was the same problem all Confederate Generals had. Good men but not enough of them or of equipment
Of course they continue to criticize the Pentagon. Onw could hardly expect them to avoid that part of the Executive Branch.
Good article.
There are far more Confederate monuments in the US than Union monuments. I think the ration is nearly 15-1.
And Lars pulls another number out of his ass.
It was tough, getting that number past his head.
The statues were erected as the “Lost Cause” generation was dying off (1890- thru the 1920’s) as a reminder to non-white Southerners that even though they lost the War, the Party of The Confederacy, the Democrats, and their militia, the Klan, were still in charge.
HT3 and Lars – please site sources for that assertion. Never in my life heard that until the whole Dylan Root/flag controversy blew up, then all of a sudden people started claiming the statues were part of the Jim Crow. (And don’t try to say “well, it was the same legislators” unless you think you can claim the civil rights movement is responsible for landing a man on the Moon.)
Care to pull a reference out about that figure, Lars? Or, is that another “progressive” myth?
Militarily, the South beat long odds to hold out as long as they did. Lee had -one- bad day the whole war.
Mix that up with the much-more-prideful culture, much more military-venerating culture, and you get statues popping up like dandelions.
Push a Southerner hard enough, he will fight. If for no other reason than to let you know that pushing is a bad thing to do.
Some folks missed that 160 years ago. Some folks ar missing that again now. But soem are -counting- on it.
The current crop of far-left lunatics want to either exterminate all American culture that can be seen as heroic or good by anyone who might oppose them, or to pick out the worst elements of discredited theories, and re-create some bizarre Utopia that -never- was. Some folks from yet other political areas are so far out on the “loon” scale that they wind up in the same place as the others, opposing America and Liberty.
So what is “peace” worth? Is it worth putting up with some pigeon-perches that commemorate someone long dead, and rapidly fading from common understanding? Worth overlooking military bases named for folks who may have been one-time opponents, but by agreed upon terms always have been and still are Americans?
Or is someone looking to pick a fight, believing that the time is right to knock off a culture that stands -opposed- to the insanity of collectivism and the inevitable collapse and mega-mass-casualty endgame?
Maybe someone who wants the US neutered and out of the way?
And both are hell-bent on starting a new war.
I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.
That’ll be next on the SJW howler monkey hit list–double-plus ungood thought crime.
MLK supported slavery by paying for prostitutes, his statues must come down asap!
imho
No matter how hard they try the Democrats can’t erase their history of slavery, sedition, war, and segregation. Nope…removing a few statutes/street names/posts won’t change the past.
Uh oh… now you’ve done it. There gonna get all wee’d wee’d up over that statement, HT3…
There are so few students of history that nobody knows why things are named what they are.
Recently told my wife when she was in Duluth, MN to take the Richard “Ira” Bong bridge to get to Superior, WI from the MN side.
She (and my sister in law) were not appreciative of the history lesson or why I took offense when they laughed at the name.
It’s sad, but nobody remembers or cares. Ask ten people why the interstates are posted as named after Eisenhower and you’ll probably have a plurality that couldn’t tell you squat about the man, the program, or why it was so important.
Richard Bong was a badass. 40 japs confirmed shot down with his P-38. US Ace of Aces. I knew who he was in the 3rd Grade. Of course, I was the kind of kid that read the kind of books that contain that kind of information.
They’ve been trying for about a century. And just like the old quote, “If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth.”
Case in point, the claim that the Democrats and Republicans switches places in the South since the Civil Rights Era.
“The bases, however, were established in order to help unify a fractured national military.”
Could you cite a source for this comment?
“I think we can agree that General Bragg was a terrible general”
I think there is a wagonload of terrible generals in our history from the Revolution through today.
If we going to start a list, this could be a long day/
I think we can all agree that George McClellan was tactically and strategically the worst general in the Civil War, he even ran on an anti-war ticket in 1864 against his former commander-in-chief as a Democrat. He has a base named for him in Alabama.
Yep, McClellan, followed by Burnside. Poor time to be a Union soldier.
Hood; Pershing; Clark; Lucas …
The only thing George McClellan should be remembered for is the split-tree saddle named after him. Otherwise, Pfffftttt!
I always loved the fact that McClellan is located just outside Anniston, also known as the most polluted city in the US. Just seemed appropriate.
It could be worse, they could start naming military things after pedophiles like Harvey Milk…..
The crossed flags and torch of the Signal Corps are in deep trouble. They could have used black and white but nooooooo…they just had to use something else. Flags and torches.
It’s a good thing they closed Ft. Monmouth and moved all those racist symbols to Ft. Gordon.
First, rename everything honoring that genocidal nazi cunt Margaret Sanger. Then we’ll talk.
Here, here!
The leaders of the pro-abortion, pro-dead babies, slice ’em & sell ’em movements associated around the globe are the true purveyors of racism and have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams…
A black baby in the womb in New York or pretty much any major city in the world stands less than a 40% of surviving the pregnancy with about 60% of black babies are aborted.
Well over 100 million abortions worldwide since the Roe v. Wade decision…
Abortion is murder, supporting abortion is conspiracy to commit murder…
Period…
How dare they comrade Commissar? “bring unity to the military”, and encourage children of civil war veterans etc ad nauseum…you brainwashed p.o.s.! Does that include McClelland AFB? you pathetic ass hole. you know nothing yet spout off all the communist bullshyt you learned in communist college…and thats ALL you learned……. BULLSHYT!
This Wapoop Davidson moron is nothing but a slimy advocate masquerading as a journalist.
For the record…
Public law 85-425 adopted May 23, 1958 as House Resolution 358 provides Confederate veterans the same status as United States Civil War veterans.
After the war, there were four former Confederate generals who served as generals in the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American War. They were Gen. Fitzhugh Lee, Gen. Joseph Wheeler, Gen. Thomas Rosser and Gen. Matthew C. Butler.
After the war, 15 Confederate Officers served as U.S. ambassadors or ministers to foreign countries.
Eighteen former Confederate soldiers served as college presidents including Lee.
Gen. E. Porter Alexander was appointed by President Grover Cleveland to arbitrate and supervise the surveying of the boundary of the Panama Canal.
Three former Confederate generals served as U.S. Commissioners of Railroads, one of the most important posts in the United States government in the post-war (westward expansion) period. They were: Gen. Joseph Johnston, Gen. James Longstreet and Gen. Wade Hampton.
After the war, seven former Confederate officers served as the adjutant general of their states.
Three former Confederate soldiers — Col. Lucius Q. C. Lamar, SGM Horace H. Lurton and Lt. Edward D. White — were appointed justices of the United States Supreme Court.
Donaldson may consider Confederate soldiers as traitors but it is obvious the U.S. government was interested in healing and reconciliation.
Assholes like Davidson want to keep picking at the scab until the bleeding strts up again.
Thanks for posting some actual history, CDR_D.
It makes it hard to start a new civil war if you remember how we healed after the last one.
Forget the lessons of the past and it’s easier to get people to make them over again.
Why no OBOZO, the worthless turd muslim, communist, queer, illegal alien was able to start a whole new race war!!
Hmm, statements backed up with actual historical facts.. Commissar and Joe aren’t going to like that…
What a shame…
I’m not sure it’s a tempest in a teapot as much as part of a more complex end game. The MSM circle-jerk has decided the President of the United States is not acceptable, and needs to go. Any excuse, however minor, adds to the steaming evidence pile. Joe Davidson likely says what he says because to do otherwise would be to offend the media zeitgeist, and find himself not only unemployed, but unemployable. A root cause might indeed be Dylann Roof and the Charleston shooting, but a more immediate prompt was Charlottesville. And something hack writers such as Joe Davidson have been careful to ignore is that a reason radicals have been angry about the pending removal of the Robert E. Lee statue is not entirely due to the fact of its removal, but also how the City of Charlottesville chose to go about it. In a nutshell, the Lee statue was created by a well-known Philadelphia sculptor and placed in the park in the 1920s. This would have been about the time the last of the surviving Civil War veterans were dying off. The statue, the park, and the surrounding historical district are on the current National Register of Historic Places. Last April, the Charlottesville City Council voted 3-2 to overturn the findings of its own blue ribbon commission, and get rid of the statue by diktat. This instead of putting it up for a public vote. Leading the charge for removal was Vice-Mayor Wes Bellamy. Bellamy, who is black, also features prominently in a local alt-weekly newspaper’s long story after the protests. There’s a photo of Bellamy marching boldly with his fist raised in a Black Power salute, another of Bellamy with a bullhorn apparently exhorting followers to riot against the alt-right, and still another of Bellamy piously praying with Governor Terry McAuliffe and Mayor Mike Signer after the violence he helped inflame subsided. Here’s the link; the C-ville Weekly leans left, but they appear to have been thorough about the sequence of events: http://www.c-ville.com/stand-charlottesville-say-no-hate/ And if you follow the events, it becomes clear President Trump had it… Read more »
You forgot to mention that Bellamy has a history of racist, homophobic, and sexist comments. Posted them to Twitter. Cost him a board of education seat, but obviously hasn’t cost him politically.
Seriously, look it up. He’s a terrible human being. Perfect for the Democratic Party! Of course, he’s also an educator. God help us.
“Washington Post continues assault on Pentagon”
Funny headline. Like saying, “Toothless Paper Tiger continues assault on Big Concrete Building”
What are they going to use on the assault? Dildos and Bongs?
when will plan parenthood be closed?
oh the uss john smccain was in a collision today.
Here’s the Fox article on the collision. It was in the Malacca Straits. 10 missing, 5 injured.
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2017/08/20/uss-john-s-mccain-collides-with-merchant-ship-in-pacific.html
PHAUCK Davidson, the Wash Poop and all their ilk. I’m just so sick of it all.
Lincoln’s policy post civil war was to be one of healing. Congress in all its glory did not like that. Johnson pushed Lincoln’s plans. BUT in the spirit of healing the nation, bringing it back together etc. we honored the fighting men of the south, put up statues of them and named bases after them. I have no trouble honoring Lee for standing tall for his state, for his beliefs, or Bragg for being a great general. Nor do I deny credit to Douglas or Carver for their achievements. MLK kept me up for many a night at the DC riots but I admire him and his accomplishments. Why is it that a person has to be perfect in accord with our beliefs before we can permit him to be honored. To the small minded idiots in these demos, may they just grow up. Our education system (UVA) has failed. Maybe we should take Lee’s statue down, UVA students are no credit to him.
Yeah, we have been honoring McCain for 40 years with accolaids, a senator-ship, huge salaries and benefits IN SPITE OF THE FACT that he is a dirty rotten scoundrel, a traitor to his service, compatriots, his family and his nation. So much for judgement. As Doc Holiday said in the movie, “he is a skunk of the first order”. NO CIVIL WAR GENERAL, north or south, ever achieved a record of skunk-dom such as he. And we tear down the statues of honorable men? What have we come to?
“President Trump is not presidential” by folks who have never been elected to a post higher than student body president. “He does not know what he is doing” say talking heads who have always worked for wages. “Generals Kelly and Mattis don’t know what they are doing” by those who amount to draft dodgers. Funny we always know what the CEO should do when we have never managed to hoist our fat ass off the assembly line floor. It is long past time we respect people simply because they exist. We must be given a reason to respect people because of their accomplishment, dignity, contribution to society instead of how loud they scream profanities, swing ball bats and push around old ladies. Contrary to the ACLU I feel that while freedom of speech is an inalienable right, the right to exercise that right needs to be earned by learning how to speak politely and articulately when we do so.
Like I said earlier, Goebbels looked for writers like JOE DAVIDSON and his ilk to write propaganda.
I guess some people always need something to be upset about.
Anyone wanna venture a guess at the new names the press will propose for these posts? I’ll bet they start out with Fort Manning, to appease the indignant ultra left.
The military is just too scary. They don’t want the forts renamed, they want them disbanded. Why? Because their billionaire puppet masters want the land and/or the contracts.
