“No cops” sign causes hoopla
A number of people have sent us links about the sign on the front of the EAV Barbell Club in Atlanta.
The owner says that he’s had a long time standing policy against cops and active duty military members in his club. From 11Alive;
“We’ve had an explicitly stated ‘No Cop’ policy since we opened, and we also don’t open membership to active members of the military,” he said.
For Chambers, a lifelong political activist, the sign and policy is a political statement outside a multi-use space which serves as a gym, community gathering spot and meeting place for activists in the metro area.
He says groups who work out there are generally minorities who are uncomfortable with the presence of law enforcement agents.
In the video interview at the link, he went on to claim that the police serve capitalism and white supremacy and for that reason he doesn’t want them in his club.
The Atlanta Police Department would not comment on the policy, but told 11Alive News, “Were we to respond to an emergency there, this sign would not stop us from lawfully doing our job.”
“If they have a warrant, they can go anywhere they want, but we’re not breaking the law,” Chambers said.
That’s fine, it’s private property and he can do whatever he wants, but he also has to suffer the consequences of his politics. I wonder what stupid excuse he has for keeping active duty members of the military out of his little shit hole club.

He also said that veterans and military aren’t invited to use the gym because, according to the owner, military people are “murderers” who serve to advance capitalism (whatever that fucking means).

As far as the location, having been an Atlanta area resident, his gym is located solidly in what my wife and I used to call the “must carry” zone. There is little to no chance that I would park my car there long enough to work out and expect it to be there, or in the same condition, after getting done.
I thought all of Atlanta is a must carry zone? With all the zombie hoards that have been roaming since 2010 and such.

I dunno about LEO, but for EMS, they keep logs of how long it takes us to respond to calls–how long between tones dropping and driving out of the station, how long it takes us to get there, how long on scene, how long from scene to hospital. Not sure we could get away with any significant delay. However, considering the location, we could stage based on lack of scene safety and wait for law enforcement. . .

There is still the matter of the community building. As far as I know the only way you can legally keep someone out of a community building is if they are in violation of existing laws such as health and safety guidelines.

Good causes cited are socially unacceptable behavior and safety.I wouldn’t summarily dismiss the possibility just because of the established protected classes without knowing the state and local ordinances.

A business owner does have a right to be selective about customers. The business about bakeries being sued for refusing to bake cakes for gay bashes was about getting attention, nothing else, and that is the same thing here.

The reviewer also stated that, when he was in the locker room, he saw two men engaging in oral sex on each other. One of the men asked the reviewer if he’d care to participate for a price.
The reviewer said “no thanks”, and has not returned to that gym.
So, if you are interested in a space that hates cops, military members, veterans, sells illegal steroids, and offers gay sex for money, then this is the place for you.
If you’re normal, you should just avoid the place and stay healthy.
