Monday’s Bits of This ‘n’ That
It seems that Fatty Kim da T’ird is getting too froggy for Pres. Trump, who is increasing efforts to cut off his cash supply/flow ASAP, by sending US Ambassador Joseph Yun to SEAsia to get some cooperation from those countries in cutting off their aid to the tinpot dictator while Secy/State Rex Tillerson asks for global action to stifle the little twerp.
Embedded in the article are two links to other articles regarding JoyBoy’s attempts to weaponise diseases, and the USA’s increase of cash for missile defense against the Norks.
There’s also a link to a brief article about Boris Johnson’s reaction to the Norks. He wants to ‘make them see sense’. http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/829535/North-Korea-Kim-Jong-un-Boris-Johnson-Syria-Assad-EU-sanctions
That’s a giggle: make a psychotic megalomaniac see some sense? Okay, sure, Boris. I know you mean well, but I’m stuck over here in Reality Land. Li’l Kim will tell you ‘Sense? Okay, Brit guy.’ and wait until your back is turned, then plunge that blade of his deep into your back. (Boris is now the UK’s Foreign Secretary.)
Meantime, Angela Merkel is ‘stunned’ by Brexit, and more determined than ever to make the EU work. http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/829523/Angela-Merkel-Brexit-European-Union-Germany-France-Emmanuel-Macron-Theresa-May
She’s quite sure that ‘the decades of peace and stability would not have been possible without the European Union’.
Angela, you ignoramus, the Common Market (shortly thereafter known as the EEC) was formed in 1957. It was not the EU. Its purpose was to regulate development of nuclear power and trade relations in Europe. It was not meant to create a ‘One Europe’ nation. That’s what Hitler wanted, but he used tanks and infantry and missiles to try to do that, and he failed. The Common Market worked a whole lot better.
The European Union did not exist until 1993, following ratification of the Maastricht Treaty. You need to bone up on history a little bit… no, bone up a LOT. Almost all of what’s wrong with Europe now is your complete lack of understanding anything about Europe, at all. Thanks to you and your imbecilic ideas, people in Germany are going without heat and electricity because they can’t afford it any more, and the entire European continent is awash in Very Bad Guys who want to slaughter you in your sleep, among many, many other things.
In other news, Venezuela is still imploding. Not sure how long before it becomes a true black hole in the physics sense, but it’s close.
And Santiago, Chile reports an early snowfall and some serious cold moving in, which means that the ski resorts will probably open early. Chile has become a mecca for ski bums and other snow-loving peeps, as has New Zealand. I’m waiting for someone to propose a cross-country ski race on Larsen C, that big chunk of ice that finally cut loose from the Antarctic peninsula.
And it looks like more rain in my kingdom by Tuesday. My sunflowers look good. Y’all have a good week.

“What we expect is climate. What we get is weather.” paraphrase from Mr. Twain.
I think we’ve got some walloping swings of weather ahead of us. We had autumn weather all summer last year, and this year, it swings between autumn and summer. The only difference is that last year, I ran the furnace until June 28. This year, I turned it off at then end of May.
What’s a furnace? Is that the thingy that runs between A/C days?
‘Furnace’ – fire in the hole, funneled through gopher tunnels into various nooks and crannies of the cave dwelling.
Go figger, what will they think of next!
I’m not real sure why anyone needs a furnace. We certainly don’t in my neck of the East Texas woods. Just toss another stick of wood in the stove and you’re good.
“It was not meant to create a ‘One Europe’ nation. That’s what Hitler wanted, but he used tanks and infantry and missiles to try to do that, and he failed.”
Hmmm, with the exception of Great Briton and neutral Ireland, Spain, Switzerland, and Sweden, Adolph did pretty well in conquering Europe. Russia, not so much.
Yeah, but he got confused and psychotic at the end and it all fell apart, Ed. Now, Napoleon almost had it in the bag, too, but….
…but General Winter showed up- both times.
Napoleon was a megalomaniac; Adolph was a batshit crazy megalomaniac.
Don’t you just love history? It’s those little details. I’ve always wondered what Hitler meant to do with Russia if he’d actually conquered it. Did he really understand how big it was?
Master Plan East (Generalplan Ost) was the ethnic cleansing and colonization of central and eastern Europe.

The Larsen C ice shelf is still attached to the continent of Antarctica. I’m only pointing this out because, after all the suspense, the part that broke off has been given the remarkably boring name of A-68. Maybe it’s just me, but wouldn’t you think if an ice sheet calved a big-ass berg the size of Delaware that some climate-science dude might have the imagination to give the thing a better name?
Yeah, but that requires that thing you mentioned – imagination – which is, unfortunately, sorely missing with those people. I think it would be a great place to hold sled dog races like the Iditarod, and cross-country skiing competitions, never mind snow volleyball. Think of the possibilities. And there would be no shortage of ice for the concession stands.
I found it pretty amusing how a guy on the news admitted that it was due to volcanic activity beneath the ice shelf, then tacked on a bit about how global arming/climate change totally could’ve done the exact same thing. Yeah, okay, that must be why this volcanically-precipitated incident is the only one of such magnitude we’ve seen lately.
It’s especially enlightening that he admitted to that ‘possibility’ (volcanic interference) since that chunk of ice has been sliding off that particular spot since 1960. It’s been floating for decades and finally kind of broke free.
Party time!!
To put that Ice thingy into perspective I like to tell folks that while it is 2200 square miles and is indeed larger than Delaware, so what. Our fair village is located in one of the smallest counties in Washington state, but it is still bigger than either the icy block or Delaware.
PS. And it is still not the biggest Ice thingy to ever break off from Antarctica. Not even the top three.
You have to understand; Merkel was a commie in East Germany, so she had no fricken clue about anything prior to 1989.
Oh, I know that. I just felt like pounding on her this morning. Idealism seems to be another mental disorder, one that is hard for me to understand. I’m trying to figure out what it takes to wake her out of her fog of idealism.
Fatty Kim is simply up to his usual hoohah. The weather changes from one hour to the next. And the contrast between Venezuela and Chile is startling, at the very least.
The decades of peace and stability were the result of NATO. Merkel as an alumnae if the Warsaw Pact is in a case of denial.
Ex,
NDtBF can be made to “see” sense…….for all of about one second…..as he stares into the airburst nuke that will go off overhead if he continues to try to “pluck the eagle”.
(don’t want to say “poke the bear” anymore, as that refers to Russia)
