SFC Ikaika Kang; ISIS terrorist in the ranks

| July 12, 2017

We talked about Sergeant First Class Ikaika Kang the other day when the feds announced his arrest. Details have been released in drips and drabs, but, what I’ve been wondering is, after Nidal Hassan, the Fort Hood murderer and terrorist, how could the Army let Kang remain in service? According to the affidavit that resulted in his arrest, his behavior goes back to 2011, according to ABC News;

The affidavit said that Kang has had a history making threatening statements, beginning in 2011, and that he was reprimanded on several occasions for threatening to hurt or kill other service members.

In March of this year, he allegedly told someone that he had been conducting research on YouTube about “the most effective and painful ways people had been tortured,” the affidavit states.

He told the same person that he was angry at a civilian who had taken away his air traffic controller’s license, and that he wanted to tie the man down, and pour Drano into his eyes, according to the affidavit.

He is reported to have communicated “that he now wanted to take his rifle, his magazines, and ‘kill a bunch of people’”. Kang bought a drone with a Go-Pro Camera that he’d planned to give to ISIS to help them fight US-supported warriors in Syria. He verbally supported ISIS’ goals while in uniform for years – but the Army waited until last August to refer him to the FBI.

From the Washington Post;

The FBI affidavit charges that Kang tried to help Islamic State “by providing both classified military documents, and other sensitive but unclassified military documents, to people he believed would pass the documents to ISIS. Kang did so with the intention that the documents would assist ISIS, including with fighting and military tactics.

[…]

“He was reprimanded on several occasions for threatening to hurt or kill other service members, and for arguing pro-ISIS views while at work and on-post,” according to the affidavit. “Due to these remarks and threats, Kang’s security clearance was revoked in 2012, but reinstated the following year after Kang complied with military requirements stemming from the investigation.”

I guess we got lucky that he was more mouth than actions, obviously, because he waited patiently for six years before the Feds arrested him after the Army knew he was a danger to others. He should have been ejected from the ranks years before. Anyone else would have been, well, if they weren’t a recent convert to Islam like Kang.

So the Army pulled his security clearance and than gave back. Nothing to see here.

PFM

What Branch was he?

26Limabeans

Lower on the trunk and full of heart rot.

Well, at least he isn’t directing aircraft in IFR conditions. Think about it.

STSC(SW/SS)

Damn, those pointy ears make him look like a Romulan.

He has a “scared puppy” look on his face like he’s now afraid of “Man-Love Thursday” behind bars!

Sgt K

Surprised big army didn’t offer him an “honorable” in order to sweep it under the rug before the feds got involved.

Yef

Political correctness is going to kill us all.

Club Manager

Negative Yef, political correctness is going to kill soliders. Cannot help but wonder if the man’s name was Smith or if they were not in Hawaii, would the leadership have stepped up to their responsibilities. Time for a 15-6 and a few forced retirements.

A Proud Infidel®™

IMHO Political Correctness is not only like a cancer on culture and society, it’s cultural, spiritual and societal SUICIDE.

Old Trooper

How was this nutjob able to keep his rank, or be promoted, voer those 6 years?

Slick Goodlin

Jeez…imagine this guy as your NCOIC and filling out your Enlisted Evaluation Report.

And who did his EER and how was he rated on Army Core Values?

1610desig

Recent convert to Islam and perhaps his probable Asian-pacific-romulan demographic gave him two layers of protection….

Yef

This is what I suspect.

Fjardeson

Who, on God’s green Earth, is overseeing security clearances these days? The Keystone Kops? Barney Fife? SIX BLOODY YEARS?

MSG Eric

I wouldn’t be surprised if some bureaucrat in the gummint decided he “needed” his clearance back so they could see what he does with it for the investigation by the FBI. Ala Fast n’ Furious logic.

BigHead Tom

Incidents must be reported and the security manager must be involved to update JPAS with any negative comments. Otherwise the security granting authority cannot weigh in on what they don’t see.

MSG Eric

So, while this cocksucker is still collecting a paycheck (that in part he’s giving over to support ISIS), we have thousands of troops being told to leave the Army posthaste and without fanfare, even while they are deployed.

Bureaucrats came up with any and every excuse they could muster for personnel to be kicked out during that same time frame, but Kang gets to stick around through it all. Utterly shameful and ridiculous. It’d be great to hear the reasoning and explanation for why Kang was allowed to stay, since he obviously didn’t have any “permanent” paperwork in his PERMs, otherwise he would’ve been separated in 2014ish by QMP.

CM

I always knew we couldn’t trust the Vulcans.

Toasty Coastie

Whomever is in charge of the Army has a big ole omelette on his face….I image, we are going to continue to hear of ObummaSuck’s Social Justice Programs for a long time together unless the Branch Honchos get their shit together. They had all they neeed with that Ft. Hood Fuck and didn’t do anything until it was to late. Now we get a repeat. Grateful it wasn’t any troops…sorry another First Responder paid the price instead.

CB Senior

Meanwhile the Army was Processing Out multitudes of personnel for inappropriate Tattoo’s.

RCAF_CHAIRBORNE

He needs a short drop followed by a loud snap

Silentium Est Aureum

But don’t you dare look at a snowflake E-2 crosseyed, lest you find yourself getting a career-ending evaluation for “harassment.”

John Robert Mallernee

Why is this an FBI case?

He’s a soldier in the United States Army, so it should be a CID investigation, with incarceration at the Post Stockade pending a court martial.

Club Manager

My take is they want to nail his ass and based on personal experience, CID sucks big time.

FatCircles0311

So basically the U.S. Army learned nothing from Hassan and just continues to ignore obvious problem soldiers if they are Muslim.

I hope Mattis is at the Pentagon knife handing some U.S. Army people.

“So basically the U.S. Army learned nothing from Hassan and just continues to ignore obvious problem soldiers if they are Muslim.”

IMHO yes, the PC infection is so thorough right now that they don’t DARE step on the toes of someone they think could or would screech the word “harassment”. I Thank God that someone got off their ass and took him out of circulation before he made himself the next Nidal Hasan, but WTF made them take so long to do so?

The problem is two fold.
Commanders have 100 tasks to complete and time, people and materials for 50. Something always slips and trying to do anything with this miscreant was always in the “to hard” box. Can you imagine the amount of digital and actual paperwork it would have entailed to get him removed? Pass him on to someone else.

Next there are sensitivities. Depending on the administration his conduct could be construed as either criminal or just a silly kid expressing himself inappropriately. Is the command going to back you up or did you just waste 10 task units that could have been put to better use. Big picture, you may save someone’s life by doing it but, cost your immediate unit some readiness.

Back to the CMD dilemma. Just how much bandwidth do I have to spend on this problem?
Big military needs to shed a hell of a lot of the unnecessary requirements that are always cumulative and seemly never subject to at least an annual review, “is this task worth our troops time?”.
It’s always more is better.
Mattis needs to decree that 25% come straight off the top. Yank the weeds, Then, justify the 75% left, in a timely manner.

OldSoldier54

It’ll take a while to winnow the Obama SJW ding-dongs out of the service.

This is why I’m effectively done despite having a little over four years left. I’ve known a number of great (not to mention loyal and patriotic) NCOs who’ve struggled to make SFC; in too many cases they’ve retired as SSGs. Hell, by now I’m about to consider myself in the latter category. Yet this piece of fecal matter probably rose through the ranks easily due to political correctness and a desire for “diversity”. In my case I’ve served with The Old Guard, as a Recruiter, and am now a Drill Sergeant–all assignments supposedly “career enhancing”. Maybe I should convert to Islam…nah, I’d rather focus on preparing for the next career.

Hopefully under Trump the Military will be able to purge all the Clintonistas and Obamites that never should have been allowed to serve in the first place.
