Phony campus racist claims cost hundreds of real jobs

| June 5, 2017

Most of you have likely heard that the University of Missouri, whose administration completely caved in to demands from black student activists over largely disproved campus racism, has suffered declining enrollments as a consequence. What most of us don’t take into account are the real costs in human misery those lower freshmen enrollment numbers carry with them. UM had already shuttered several freshmen dorms last year, the first year after the protests, due to smaller incoming classes, but as the trend continues with another 14% freshman enrollment reduction expected this coming fall, the Missouri legislature has hit the university system budget with a 6.6% reduction in core funding, necessitating the elimination of close to 500 jobs with more than 300 of those at that notoriously “racist” flagship campus in Columbia.

Back when those first dorms closed, few of us likely even paused to consider the associated job losses. But large buildings require maintenance and with these being domiciles, likely numerous housekeeping jobs as well. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to how many of those jobs were held by blacks or other people of color? Since many of the incidents that caused all this grief were found to be hoaxes and the charges of widespread campus racism were found to be largely unfounded until the protests inspired them, this contrived incident drummed up by black Social Justice Warriors clearly has cost many blacks and other people of color their jobs. Once again, the unintended consequences of rampant liberalism has harmed the very folks these rabid liberals say they want to protect.

But now the damages go deeper since concerned parents, white and black, have decided to send their freshmen children to less racially troubled schools. The resultant declining enrollments and tuitions have caused the legislature to enact budget cuts to save $100 million, forcing the UM administration to axe almost 500 positions. Consider the fact that black organizations frequently complain that in layoffs blacks are the first to go. Even if that is not the case here, of 474 jobs on the chopping block, how many of those are likely to be blacks and other people of color, multiple dozens at the least? And what about all those other folks, whites, Asians, Jews, Muslims, who are going to lose their jobs? Were they all mean spirited and racist, deserving of the life crises they will now face?

It is a sad truth, an inconvenient truth, so to speak, that liberals have a tin ear for this sort of irony. One definition for inconvenient is “embarrassing” which certainly is applicable to those whose bad behaviors set in motion these sad events for their people. There’s just one problem with that: Liberals seem to live in a state beyond feeling normal human embarrassment for their screw-ups; they are so steeped in dishonesty and hypocrisy that even when shown the spoiled fruits of their folly they are utterly unfazed and unrepentant, but most importantly, blithely unaccountable.

actions have consequences

OWB

Only problem I have here is the use of the term “unintended consequences.” Are we really certain that the lefties who set up these situations do NOT intend for the very real negative consequences which will surely follow? While they may not know the exact result, they know that it will not be good, every time. That is their intended goal, isn’t it – to create problems which cause real pain to real people?

I bet not one of those 474 cut jobs will be “diversity” or “EO” administrators unless the legislature specified them…so it’s not all bad if you’re a certain persecuted demographic

I wonder if the administration at Evergreen College in Washington state is paying attention? Anyone? Bueller?

Dinotanker

Up North; I kind of doubt that the Evergreen Administrators can even operate a can opener. I am pretty DAMN CERTAIN they have no clue who Neville Chamberlain is, even though they are following the “appeasement road”. Last weeks bullshit by the students at Evergreen is beyond unsatisfactory. What the hell? I will accept all and any criticism for the following; I took classes at Evergreen in the early 90’s, working towards a degree in Biology. I was a captain in the Army reserve officer at the time. Evergreen is weird fucking place; with that said, the professors I took classes from were topnotch, and I while I wasn’t completely accepted there, I didn’t receive any crap about being in the Army. Evergreen is a Washington State taxpayer funded institution of so called higher education. The administration should be sacked. White guys stay home day? WTF? If you go to a state school; you, your parents, or the taxpayers are footing the bill. They expect you to learn and graduate and be productive. Jeez I am such an idealist huh? Maybe even a radical. I went and checked out the parking lot behind the dorms one day; very nice cars, lots of OUT OF STATE plates. So once more; WTF Greeners???? If the Gov had any balls, he would apologize to the citizens of the state, sack the administration, and put any student who participated in the madness on suspension; like gone from campus. Reapply for admission Mo Fo’s. With that said, I can pooh in one hand and hope with the other and see which fills first. I now live in eastern Washington, where my middle of the road tendencies; strong defense and strong education usually manage to get me some oddball looks. I like living over here. People are real. You can have a conversation about ideas and are listened to, and also expected to listen in turn. Kind of like civilized folks. I cannot fathom the madness that is creeping over western Washington. Olympia has seen a lot of violence this year. It used to be a… Read more »

I graduated from UW (main campus in Seattle) in 1986. The northward creep of Californian liberal lunacy was visible even then, though mostly restricted to the poli-sci and psych departments.

Evergreen is not and has never been limited to just that. All their classes, pretty much, try to include mandatory consciousness-raising on racism and all the other -isms.

To work as a tutor you have to take a class on that kind of ‘awareness’, too.

Well said. I particularly liked this: ” If the Gov had any balls…” Jay Inslee does not, and never did. Watch closely, as he is trying to position himself to run for President in 2020. God help us if he does as we’ll have to see and hear him even more than we do now (and that’s too much already).

Considering the letter from the school president, which was a MASTERFUL job of being something that you can’t tell which side he’s actually taking…they are paying attention only insomuch as to cover their own heinies and give lip service to their tin gods of protected statuses.

And yes, I can provide said letter if so desired, but it’s a powerful emetic. Use with care.

Is there a statistic available on other state schools that have lost funding due to this same thing – fake racism?

It appears to me that the people who howl the loudest about it are the most guilty of it.

No, not one of those SJW howler monkeys gave any thought to the consequences of their actions, nor would they have cared if someone said ‘you’ll put people out of work’. They do not have to suffer the consequences of what they do. That’s the burden of Other People.

The Immutable Law of (Un)intended Consequences strikes again.

A Proud Infidel®™

Is it still the fault of us White Folks that it happened? Who am I kidding, EVERYTHING wrong with this world is our fault according to SJW Howling Flower Monkeys.

You make it sound like universities shrinking is a bad thing. Half of them could close entirely and the US would probably be significantly better for it.

Looks like the cuts weren’t at the Columbia campus only… and of those cut at the Columbia campus, 42 were administrators (my guess is that they’re “lower level” types). I’m thinking that enrollment will still decline until things change on campus… and that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon.

Dave Hardin

Good, close the damn thing all together. Tired of these people pissing their life away on all this educational nonsense.

I invested near nothing in a GED…it has paid huge dividends.

OT – an article in the WAPO about the People’s Democratic Republic of Portland and racism. Shades of what we have seen on some campuses:

Now the professional victims get to complain that people of color and other minorities are being disproportionately targeted in the layoffs. So, it’s a win-win for these lowlife turds. Kinda like the ‘Reverend’ Al creating a problem where none exists, coming into town to seek justice, shitting on everything in sight, claiming victory for the ‘common’ man and flying out of town on his private jet to another bogus emergency of his making. See how that works?

The Old Maj

This is how capitalism works in a free democracy. Another thing liberals don’t understand.

Ex-PH2

Oh, now that makes my heart sing.

Commissioner Wretched

Not sure why it’s in today’s news, since it happened in April of last year. But it is good to see an administrator basically telling these kids (who know NOTHING of what they think they’re protesting) to pack it in and go back to their dorms, or get arrested, go to jail, and then go home – as non-students.

Silentium Est Aureum

Maybe Johnathan Butler can give them all jobs.

After all, his daddy is loaded.
