Thursday morning feel good stories

| May 25, 2017

Wilted Willy sends us our first story from somewhere in upstate New York;

Surveillance video shows the terrifying moment masked men storm the Markanda Market while armed with knives on Monday.

Gurchran Singh and his wife Parvinder Chahal simply weren’t in the mood, however.

“They jumped in and said give me the money!” Singh told WRBG. “My wife said, ‘Take it, take the money!'”

But instead off fleeing in fear, the husband and wife teamed up to beat back the onslaught.

In the video, Singh is seen grabbing a metal baseball bat from behind the counter. Chahal then follows him, picking up a stick to defend the store.

Thanks to the couple’s bravery, the encounter lasted only a few seconds and the suspect made off only with a pack of cigarettes, cops say.

Even when the robbery attempt ended, Singh’s pursuit continued. He and a friend chased down the suspects and followed behind their vehicle until cops arrived.

Police then arrested 21-year-old Ryan Kelly Jr. and 20-year-old Brandon Ehlers.

From Columbus, Ohio;

Michael E. Ruffin, 21, was sentenced to 13 years in prison and Dusty E. Thomas, 20, to 10 years after each pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and aggravated robbery. Ruffin also pleaded guilty to two gun specifications and Thomas to one.

Ruffin, Thomas and Brandon Bolin, 18, forced their way into a residence in the 500 block of Station Road on the night of Dec. 12, 2014, said Assistant Prosecutor Scott Shumaker. One of the occupants of the home, a 21-year-old man, fired at them in self-defense, killing Bolin.

Both of Bolin’s accomplices were indicted for murder, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge as part of a plea agreement. Under Ohio law, murder charges can be filed against a person whose accomplice dies while they are committing or fleeing from a crime.

From Stockbridge, Georgia;

Robert MacDonald, 26, held a knife to an employee of a Dollar General in Stockbridge while demanding money. The suspect fled the scene after jumping onto the bed of a truck that was waiting for him outside.

MacDonald jumped from the truck when officers attempted to stop the vehicle.

While officers were investigating the armed robbery, patrol officers were dispatched to a home invasion on Kinsey Drive. According to police, the suspect matched the description of MacDonald.

The homeowner told officers he heard glass break inside the home and the suspect entered the home a short while later. The homeowner made contact with suspect and said the suspect approached him in a threatening manner.

The homeowner grabbed his gun from behind the door, pointed it at the suspect, yell for help. The homeowner’s father heard his son, came down the stairs with a gun, and shot the suspect in the chest.

To all of you that made your comments I will from the bottom of my heart say I am forever sorry for my misleading comments. I am and always will be a Marine. I worked and trained with many special forces. I explained many years ago a mistake in words that some one took out of a conversation I had when I was talking about some of my past experiences. I went through some of the toughest training there was in the military and I’m very proud of it. I have done some things in life I’m sorry for and I asked to be forgiven many years ago. Why this is all coming from and why I don’t know. If you want to try and ruin me then go ahead and have your fun. I am retired and I have a life where life is simple and quiet. I where for your information many hats. I wear my USMC hat. I wear other hats. I just got a replacer of the sword we wore with our dress blues. So please all that made comments that’s your right. For the record. I’m a Marine and always will be. That’s all I have to say. Spyglass Bravo out.’

All good stories, but not surprised by the lazy ass prosecutors in Ohio that allowed the scum to plead to lesser charges, instead of going to trial..

I wish plea agreements weren’t a thing

Great prison name.

Ryan? Brandon? What is the world coming to? A couple of Whitebread preppies robbing a Quick Stop. with knives? Amatures! Their mugshots indicate that they didn’t get all lumped up, but they should have been.

So, am I the only one who is reading this section and wondering how this will work out for the father… seeing as the son subdued and then the father shot the guy: “The homeowner grabbed his gun from behind the door, pointed it at the suspect, yell for help. The homeowner’s father heard his son, came down the stairs with a gun, and shot the suspect in the chest.”

Jonn, this happened dangerously close to Albany – will be waiting for the updated SAFE Act banning bats and sticks…
