2LT Richard Collins III murdered
Late last week, Richard Collins III was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant from the Bowie State ROTC program. On Saturday, he was waiting with friends for an Uber when 22-year-old Sean Urbanski approached the group of friends according to Fox5;
“He said to the victim, ‘Step left, step left if you know what’s good for you,'” said University of Maryland Police Chief David Mitchell. “The victim looked at him puzzled with the other friends of his and said, ‘No.’ It was then that Sean Urbanski stabbed the victim in his chest.”
Investigators say Urbanski, who they believe had been drinking, never left the scene and was arrested without incident.
The police say that Urbanski belongs to a Facebook group called “Alt-Reich Nation”, a racist group of haters.
[Family pastor Darryl Godlock] said Collins’ father was in the Navy and Collins wanted to follow in his footsteps serving in the military. He was part of the Army’s Intelligence Division, according to Godlock.
“He loved his family, he loved people and he loved God,” he said. “We’re in shock at what has happened to him.”

I keep preaching ‘situational awareness’. One of my son’s men was rolled by some thugs before their duty weekend and lost his wallet with his ID. I got to meet him yesterday – a very nice young man, as one would expect. And them being Airborne, in shape. Got a pretty good black eye out of the experience, but I think he’ll be ok.
There are scumbags everywhere. Situational awareness!

I tell my girls to have their head on a swivel. If anything doesn’t seem/feel/look right, go back inside the store. Ask for an escort. Never park beside a high profile vehicle. If one is beside you upon your return, back to the store for an escort. Walk out of store in group. Have a plan B b/c plan A will not work. And the list goes on. They know it’s better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Yes, they are legally armed but the best way to survive an encounter is to never be involved in an encounter. If it’s your life or the scumbag’s, make sure it is the scumbag. Never get into a vehicle if possible. It’s better to run and scream, hoping the noise will dissuade the bad guy. Worst case scenario is he will shoot at you. Hitting a ‘zigging’ moving target is not as easy as the movies would suggest.

As a Gulf War Lieutenant, I am saddened and horrified. I feel for the deceased family and I wish that I could do something positive to ease the pain. I do believe that Lieutenant Collins’ death is not in vain and that God will get the glory in the mist of our pain and surely He will bring justice and judgement. Help us God…
