No private citizens triumphed over criminals, but the police have;

A Columbus Police officer fired at a stabbing suspect near the Ohio State University campus on Thursday.
Police say they were responding to a call of a woman stabbed at Neil Avenue and West Northwood Avenue. The suspect was transported to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with self-harm injuries. All officers are reportedly unharmed.
According to police, an officer fired one shot at the suspect.
From Des Moines, Iowa;
Police from Des Moines, Tukwila and Kent responded, and found the machete-wielding suspect walking in and out of the home.
Dputies ordered the suspect to put his weapon down, but he refused.
“The armed individual was not cooperative with the officers’ request to put his weapon down. We’re also concerned about the safety of the individuals inside the homes. At this point, we know that one officer did discharge his firearm,” Sgt. Doug Jenkins said.
A Kent police officer fired the shot that killed the suspect.

Great stories, as always, Jonn. Just one minor detail: it looks like the Des Moines, Tukwila and Kent referenced in the second article are actually in King County, WA.

Sorry, that’s not “Des Moines” Iowa but “Des Moines” Washington. Silly, but true. Tukwila and Kent are cities nearby. I should know, I served in the guard unit near Kent (HHC 3/161).
Saw on Atlanta news a story showing some overweight older white guy who after a high-speed chase came out of his truck with something akin to a club: the office is clearly heard repeating “Sir! Put the weapon down NOW!” three or four times – then BANG. Now that is reality TV.
