Roof sentenced to death

| January 10, 2017

After three hours of deliberation, the jury in the Dylann Roof murder trial, sentenced him to death according to Fox5;

At the beginning of the trial, he addressed jurors directly, insisting that he wasn’t mentally ill, but he never asked them for forgiveness or mercy, or explained the crime.

He threw away one last chance to plead for his life on Tuesday, telling jurors: “I still feel like I had to do it.”

Every juror looked directly at Roof as he spoke for about five minutes. A few nodded as he reminded them that they said during jury selection they could fairly weigh the factors of his case. Only one of them, he noted, had to disagree to spare his life.

“I have the right to ask you to give me a life sentence, but I’m not sure what good it would do anyway,” he said.

When the verdict was read, he stood stoic and showed no emotion. He will be formally sentenced Wednesday.

I don’t like the death penalty, but, if anyone deserves it, I guess it’s Dylann Roof.

The jury convicted him last month of all 33 federal charges he faced, including hate crimes.

Roof did not explain his actions to jurors, saying only that “anyone who hates anything in their mind has a good reason for it.”

He can explain that to his Maker, then.

Tough call. As is said by some prisoners with life sentences, that is a death sentence, it just takes longer.

Having him be someone’s cockmeat sandwich eating bitch for the rest of his life, or having him die quickly in a room with a needle is a tough call. But, each state is different and has their own way of it.

No sympathy either way for the little scumbag

Eden

If their continued (and incarcerated) existence on the earth didn’t depend on taxpayer money, I might agree with you. As it is, the sooner this sentence is carried out, the better.

MSG Eric

As I’ve read, death penalty cases, as well as housing death row inmates costs significantly more than other inmates, including life sentence inmates.

As well, all of the appeals and judicial processes that occur for a person who received the death penalty costs a significant amount, as well as taking up a lot of the court’s time.

David

a significant argument for expedited execution in cases such as this. When he admits it (and indeed seems proud of it) there are multiple good eyewitnesses, and no doubt whatsoever – the next step in the process should be “and what do you want for the last meal?”

Club Manager

As I understood the death penalty, it is supposed to be a deterrent. I know Old Smokey was for many, and thought hanging and a firing squad also served the purpose. But all of this humane crap is not a deterrent. Since death by bunga-bunga would probably be ruled cruel and unusual punishment by some judge, lets return to the days of yesteryear.

You mean the likes of “Old Sparky”, the Electric Chair now in the Texas Prison Museum used to execute 300+ criminals during its service lifetime? I went through that museum with my sister while she was in college in Huntsville, she said “What about the guys killed in that chair?” to which I responded “To hell with them, what about the people those criminals raped, robbed, tortured and murdered?”. These days she’s a moonbat liberal that refuses to even acknowledge my existence.

desert

That’s what liberal/communist colleges do to young people, they brain wash ANYTHING that looks like common sense !

David

The death penalty has been found not to be much of a deterrent, largely because of the long drawn out appeals process. More significantly, though, the post-execution recidivism rate is 0%. It is not society’s best punishment or deterrent, but is the most effective protection from future crimes by the executee.

desert

Not much of a deterrent? Hae you ever seen one of these clowns repeat their crimes after the death penalty? THINK…remove head from BUTT!

David

A deterrent is something which stops someone from committing the crime in the first place. The death penalty has been shown to be ineffective at that. It’s a deterrent to future crime…which a basic grasp of English would show was clearly stated in my last sentence. Dark in there?

OldManchu

Fuck this guy.

Put him down like a mad dog…viciously attacked one of the few things going right in the black community…

Option one:
1. Rope
2. Tree or Gallows
3. Dylann Roof

Some assembly required.

Option number two is of course to strap him and stick him. Whenever an animal hurts or kills someone without remorse it is put to death and I see no reason why that remorseless little animal should be treated any differently.

desert

You forgot the old tried and true “firing squad”!

Sparks

I do agree with the death penalty, and as a deterrent. I just don’t think it is used enough anymore to make it the deterrent it once was. The alternative of keeping an inmate in maximum security for life is a tax burden we don’t need and can’t afford. If life in prison meant an hour of sunshine a day, no TV, no privileges whatsoever, then maybe. But as it is, life inside with all its perks is not that bad for inmates.

This guy, needs killing ASAP.

Eden

Not only is it not used enough, it isn’t employed quickly enough after conviction to connect it to the crime.

A Proud Infidel®™

I concur. THERE SHOULD NOT be ten to twenty years of appeals before a Death Sentence is carried out.

SFC D

You get a death sentence, you should get one appeal. Should the appeal fail, you get 1 week to say goodbye. Adios, motherfucker.

Semper Idem

Only if we include the following condition: The death penalty can only be given if there is DNA evidence to prove guilt.

The way I see it, if DNA can infallibly acquit, that same DNA can infallibly convict. Require that the DNA proof follow strict rules on chain-of-custody and testing to ensure there are no errors; even the slightest error takes the death penalty off the table permanently.

David

DNA would have contributed nothing to Roof’s case.

I think I agree with the sense of what you are saying though – the evidence needs to be overwhelming – multiple witnesses, lots of evidence etc. None of this single-witness “sorta looks like him”. Should be an airtight case -but if it is, one appeal to review everything, then get ’em on the gurney to ride the Needle Express.

Commissioner Wretched

Reading through the Officer Down Memorial Page (www.odmp.org), I noticed that back about 100 or so years ago, if somebody was convicted of killing a cop and sentenced to death, the execution would be carried out withing a short period of time – one to two months, it seemed.

I understand the appeal process is designed to make **SURE** that we’re executing the right person, and I also understand that as long as humans are involved mistakes will happen. But in a case like this, why have appeals at all? Multiple witnesses … he admits he did it … guilty in a court of law … sentence of death … just do it and get it over with.

Aysel

good, couldn’t happen to a nicer fellow.

jonp

Oh, well, it was a hate crime. Well that seals it because murdering people no matter what color they are is not a hateful act, they have to be a member of a minority for the murder to be hateful.

I wonder if they will have a lottery with the winner getting to pull the lever on this asshole. I’m in.

Ex-PH2

The lack of remorse is more disturbing than the sentence. He just does not care. Those people meant nothing to him.

SFC D

I can’t even view this as a “hate crime”. He didn’t care about his victims enough to hate them. I don’t think he even saw them as human beings.

sj

Why did it take 3 hours?

Death penalty= zero recidivism

Some people need killing. Should have been administered by ole Sparky on the steps of the church a year+ ago. Talk about a slam dunk case.

UpNorth

‘Why did it take 3 hours’? Well, if it was in the morning, they had to brew a pot of coffee, elect a foreman, get the coffee, and doughnuts, talk about dinner the previous evening, and the Alabama-Clemson game. Then vote, then have another cup of coffee and another doughnut. Then tell the bailiff that they had a verdict. Followed by going into the courtroom and deliver the verdict. About 3 hours time.
If it was after noon, substitute sandwiches for doughnuts.
And, good on them.

2/17 Air Cav

“The jury convicted him last month of all 33 federal charges he faced, including hate crimes.” No, not the hate crime. Murdering people is one thing but hate crimes too? The bastard.

CWORet

Not even one shart given for this POS. It’ll be low and slow, but he’ll reap what he sowed. Eventually.

The Other Whitey

Fuck Dylan Roof. May he burn in Hell.

Commissioner Wretched

He will, TOW. For eternity.

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving individual, if you ask me.

2/17 Air Cav

No empathy. No remorse. No nothing. He’s as cold as one can get. Sure there is something wrong with him. His sense of humanity is missing. He is without conscience. So, should we examine his childhood, determine whether he was abused, neglected, unloved? I might have to have a look see at DU to see whether they are playing the violin there, in this case, or did they make an exception this time around?

ex-OS2

Maybe he will choke to death on a cock in D Block, save a few more taxpayer bucks.

dana1371

There are 43 inmates on death row in South Carolina. Some for over 20 years. The appeals for this turd could go on for years. However, when tim mcveigh was convicted he got one appeal so I don’t know why the judges would not order the same for this punk. My guess at the 11th hour is this clown will want a stay and then an appeal. It’s a tough call but the big costs are the trial and then the appeals. He could just be incarcerated directly to the general population and probably not last very long. Problem solved.

UpNorth

McVeigh stopped his lawyers from any further appeals and indicated he was ready for his sentence to be carried out.

Silentium Est Aureum

Expedite the process. Put him in general population.

There are enough African-American prisoners that want to kill him strictly for the cred they’d get.

Come to think of it, there are plenty of white, brown, etc., prisoners who’d do it just for shits and giggles, too.

Shack!

That’s precisely how Jeffery Dahmer was ultimately exterminated in prison.

12 year average wait time in South Cackalacky.
The main reason I have began to be against the death penalty is the high cost to taxpayers of footing the bill for appeals, and the added cost of maintaining a death row.
Roof is a soul-less fuck that needs to be cleansed from the gene pool. I just don’t like wasting millions of dollars just to snuff out this worm a decade after he was sentenced.

Bill M

The sentence can’t be carried out soon enough.

Carlton G. Long

I’m surprised that 0 man didn’t brand this a case of workplace violence.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Good riddance in a decade or so I guess….I like the Russian version of carrying out this sentence. If anyone watched the movie about the Russian serial killer some years back when he was sentenced they walked him into a room and told him he was being prepped for transfer then they shot him in the head he fell dead on the tile floor right next to the floor drain…he was being prepped for transfer, to a burial site.

An attendant came in and hosed down the floor to wash the blood into the drain…dead within a few minutes of sentencing. Perhaps a bit too quick for our sensitive American tastes but he’s not out there murdering anyone or causing problems for any guards.

Just An Old Dog

Citizen X, great flick.
One think the Russians did that I think was rather Humane in some cases was they would never tell the prisoner what was coming. They would tell them they were moving them to another cell or taking them to see a visitor and just have them take a turn into an empty room where they would be shot by the guard behind them before they knew what was happening.

ALVO

Yup, if all the “he dunnit” boxes are checked, dispatch the prisoner ASAP and the next trip is to the oven. Dump the ashes in the gutter where they belong.

Foxbat40

Mr. Roof said that he almost didn’t go threw with the massacre because the people at the church were so nice to him. This shows that he was aware of his surroundings and understood what he was doing. He knew they were good people and went through with the killing anyways. He knew it was wrong beforehand. He deserves the death penalty… and then some.

Joe

I hope it’s the last time I hear this s**tbags name until after he is dead.

A.B.

Dylan Storm Roof is evil and should never be free. Either give him life without parole or execute him as jury gave him death penalty. But there’s something which tunes me out. It’s comment were posters say F word him. I don’t understand why people say the F word because it’s sexual and the F word is so gay. Why do you say F word some1 if you hate them because F word means you want to have sex?

Another thing which is bad is wishing sex abuse on some1. Now if you think Dylan Storm Roof should be executed for mass murder, then that’s 1 thing. But to wish sex abuse on some1 is evil, even if the person’s bad. to advocate homosexual pedofilia is evil. I don’t think 2006 Duke accuser who is also a child abuser & murderess should be sexually abused in prison & it’s evil to advocate sex abuse. If she had done jail time in 2007, then possibly she wouldn’t have murdered her ex boyfriend in 2011-she since went on to commit child abuse (2010, etc.)

Dylan Storm Roof is a mass murderer who should either spend the rest of his life in prison or be executed for what he did. But there’s no excuse for homosexual rape and any1 who does that or endorses that is sick.

Eden

You’re new around here, and maybe English isn’t your first lanquage, either. Most of us are military veterans, who as a group are not known for their clean language. Telling them not to cuss is like telling a fish not to swim.

Oh, and textspeak (“some1”, etc.) isn’t well received here, either.

A.B.

There’s nothing wrong with cursing up to a point. Using profanities like shit or asshole is 1 thing. But the F word is a sex word and it’s gay when 1 says it to a person of same sex. English was not the first language which I learned, but when people say F word this, they mean sex.

Eden

You are correct as to the origins of the word, but that is not how it is meant or used in this country.

A.B.

1 more thing to add to my post about Dylan Storm Roof-the people who we must care about are the victims families & even this mass murderer’s family. Dylan Storm Roof is a murderer, his family is not to blame how he turned out unless they encouraged him to do this. And again with my last post, it’s sick and evil to advocate sex abuse as punishment. Either give Dylan Storm Roof life in prison without parole or execute him.

A.B.

Death penalty cases have mandatory appeals. He could be executed if he asks his lawyers to refuse appeals.

Ex-PH2

Really? Who died and made you God?

2/17 Air Cav

After reading your comments here and in another thread, it’s a cinch that A.B. stands for A Bedbug, as in the saying, “Crazy as a bedbug.”

Eden

English isn’t his first language, so there are a few things that are “lost in translation”.
