Chicago congressman’s grandson shot over shoes dispute

| November 20, 2016

15-year-old Javon Wilson the grandson of Illinois U.S. Representative Danny Davis was killed in his home this weekend by another 15-year-old boy who had changed his mind in regards to a trade of shoes for pants with Wilson’s 14-year-old brother. The 15-year-old forced his way into the home in the company of a seventeen-year-old girl, got into an argument with Wilson and subsequently shot him dead. From The Olympian;

Davis, a Democratic member of the House for 20 years, told The Associated Press Saturday that his grandson was a victim of a world where gun violence has become commonplace.

“It’s almost, just the way it is. People think nothing of it,” Davis said.

“Youngsters invariably say, ‘I know a lot of guys who’ve got guns. I know a lot of girls who’ve got guns,'” Davis said. “It becomes a part of the culture of an environment that has got to change.”

Chicago has seen a dramatic rise in the number of shootings and homicides, with August being the deadliest month in the city in two decades. There have been 673 homicides so far this year, including the fatal shootings of the cousin of Chicago Bulls basketball star Dwyane Wade, a Chicago police officer’s son and the son of a famed percussionist.

You know what’s coming next, right?

“The question becomes where does a 15-year-old obtain a gun? Who let the 15-year-old have a gun and under what circumstances?” Davis asked. “There’s no answer for that except that the availability of guns is so prevalent in America to the point where you almost can’t tell who has a gun” anymore.

They should write a law that forbids 15-year-olds from possessing firearms. They could also make forcing your way into other people’s homes illegal. Go the extra mile and make murder illegal, too. Or, parents could start parenting.

I’m sorry to hear of the Congressman’s loss. But the following bears repeating.

A gun is a tool. Being one yourself, Congressman, I’d think you’d realize that.

It’s not the gun that’s to blame. It’s the inner-city culture.

And the glorification of the thug life.

“Davis said his grandson was ‘”a pretty regular kid”‘ who loved playing basketball and knew all the pros and their stats, who also loved music and whose grades were improving after a rough patch.” That’s the best that his own grandfather can say about him? Thug. That’s what I read. Thug. And I like Jonn’s reference to “parents.” What’s the latest stat on one-parent households in Chicago? 70%? 75%? There are no parents. There is no father to lay down the law and impose discipline, to teach a little boy the essentials to being a man in a civil society. Instead, being a man in Chicago, as elsewhere largely in urban America, is dictated by the street. THAT’S the culture that has to change, Mr. Congresscritter.

Sadly, it looks more and more every day like Pat Moynihan was indeed prophetic back in 1965 – for all races.

He was on the money, attributing the demise of the Black nuclear family to the rise of the welfare state. It is politically incorrect to site to such things nowadays. We who look to the killing (suicide?) of the traditional nuclear family consisting of Dad, Mom, and children, are dismissed as racists. The family is the building block of society. We can do without schools, for the most part, and did for generations, with great success. What we cannot do without are Dads and Moms who are involved in the lives of their children from sun up to sun down, every day of the year.

site, cite, sight. I picked the wrong one.

And what party helped in the demise of the Black nuclear family?

Bueller?
Buller?
Anyone?

The party that Repersentative is a member of – the Democrats.

Most people, I would guess, have no idea whatsoever what the goals, objectives, and principles of Black Lives Matter are. I would also guess that most of those who do not know these things would be shocked to learn them. BLM is associated with anti-police protests in response to the shooting of Blacks, whether justified or not. That’s what put the spotlight on BLM, just a catchy tag. It is, therefore, viewed as a good thing but those on the Left and some people not so Left. Anyway, here’s what BLM says in its website’s “Black Villages” section. “We are committed to disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, and especially “our” children to the extent that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable.” Well, the villages are doing a great job of it, especially in Chicago. You can go there yourselves if you want to read other sections, such as “Queer Affirming,” Transgender Affirming,” and “Globalism.” That’s BLM, in part. It is also anathema to all decent Americans, perhaps especially those of Black African heritage.

I will never go to their effing website, and I will likely never go to Shotcago again in this life. It looks like a place where you are likely to get murdered if you blunder into the wrong part of town. I think Rahmbo is leading his city into a competition with Detroit for the murder city of the nation. “Progressive” Democrat politicians are a pox on this land. It will be interesting to see how many more people die or live in misery because of their policies and lack of values.

I keep telling people that the USA does not have a gun control problem, a race problem or even a poverty problem.

The USA has a dipshit problem. The bad news is the consequences get far worse before things get better.

The good news is that dipshits are highly subject to Darwinian selection.

USMCMSgt (Ret)

Part of that article reads, “Chicago has seen a dramatic rise in the number of shootings and homicides…”

Well, since Rahm said the city will always be a sanctuary for the criminal element,it’s obvious those few words will be repeated time and time again (as if they already haven’t).

On kids having firearms Davis said. “It becomes a part of the culture of an environment that has got to change.”

No shit.

deckie

I hope they do cut their funding and bring these idiot Mayors to their knees… I really do.

Ret_25X

Davis meant, “It becomes part of the culture I exploit for my own purposes, we can’t fix it”

There…Fixed it

And I’ll just leave this without comment.

Spot on.

If Rhambutt and his type want “sanctuary cities”, then let’s build fences around them and cut off federal funds for them. Let him deal with the problems with less cash to throw away or embezzle from.

As for the culture, I’ve never heard a single democrat step up and make a stand about getting the “thug life mentality” out of the black neighborhoods. I guess it’s their way of “keeping people down”.

rgr769

Gee, I wonder if he would ever admit that the unnamed culture is the drug/thug culture of the feral teen children of his city. He is also prolly a support of BLM and their ilk.

Ex-PH2

I’m not sure that the crime rate was during the days of Al Capone and Dillinger, but it appears to me that the current rate is exceeding that of the Depression.

I believe the neighbors told that family to get out of the area they were living in. There had not been any shootings prior to this, according to one of them, who said he had repeatedly told the family to be aware of what their kids were up to.

So, where does an idiot 15-year-old boy get his hands on a working firearm, except on the street? And no, it will never sink into Rahmbo’s bony skull that they aren’t getting them from gun shops.

Bernie Hackett

Nah, he went to a gun show. Like all the rest of us criminals and Republicans. Yeah, that’s it. Lots of 15 year old customers there.
It couldn’t have come from the all knowing, all encompassing COMMUNITY, you know, the village it takes to raise a child? Gosh, that would make a great book title! What? Oh! She did? Then, I’m convinced.

rgr769

If Shitcago did what Richmond did to deal with its shooting crime problem, there would be a substantial reduction in gun crime. Richmond had every gun crime criminal prosecuted under federal law to the max. Pretty soon word was out on the street that if you were caught with a gun while you were out thuggin, you were going to the federal pound for 10 plus years with no parole. Suddenly guns were no longer a popular weapon for crime. And many bad guys went away for long stretches. In Shytown minors in possession of a firearm probably get probation, or the gun charges, which are easy to prove in court, are the first ones dealt away as part of the plea deal.

David

Plus, Chicago is rated dead last among 90 major cities in legal prosecution of gun related crimes. Wonder if they like, prosecuted lawbreakers with all available force of the law? Think that might help any?

UpNorth

Imagine that, the preezy is from Chirac, and yet, the feds can’t even be bothered to prosecute federal gun crimes. Must be Loretta Be Lyin’ is too busy looking up ways to prosecute people who say bad things about muslims.

Thunderstixx

The thug life is glorified by entertainers, rap “artists” NBA superstars and a plethora of politicians that support the lifestyle with their stupid liberal policies tossing fathers out of the homes for a bigger welfare check.
And then after listening to Fox News Sunday this morning I hear the libidiots sticking to the same bull shit trash talk that got them tossed out of power all across this country.
I hope they continue, it is yet another example of stupid does and an even better example of being stuck on stupid for generations.
They will continue to lose political power until someone finally wakes up and smells the coffee.
After watching Bobby Woodie and han willieboi on FNS, stuck on stupid is where they plan on staying…

“Davis, a Democratic member of the House for 20 years”

Nuff said.

Sapper3307

We need stronger sneaker regulations. Perhaps a 15 day wait/cool down period. Or Chicongo can ban sneakers and force its population into work boots.

E-6 type, 1 ea

“force its population into work boots”

I doubt most of the population in Chicago even knows what those are.

Bernie Hackett

They would wear them as a form of parody display, like overalls, work clothes. THEY are so above all that.

nousdefions

We need universal background checks for sneaker purchases. Close the living room loophole!

Roger in Republic

These sneakers were obtained on the GRAY market. They were traded for a pair of slacks. No licensed dealer or background check came into play. The shooter was the brother of the kid who traded away his shoes and he felt that the trade was unfair.

Second City Cop has more on this story.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Put them in flip flops… never heard anyone killing someone else over a pair of flip flops.

jonp

Actually, Timberlands and other workboots are much the rage among punks or were until recently.

Ban shoes, Ban Guns, Ban Butter Knifes,

I think banning stupid politicians should come first!

After hearing on a daily basis what is happening in the shooting gallery that is Chicago I’ve always wondered why in the hell doesn’t someone make murder illegal in Illinois?

Hack Stone

Thug #1: Yo, homes. Those are some damn fine Jordan’s you be spirtin’. I would kill for a pair.

Thug #2: I did.

EODJay

Who hasn’t shot someone for some shoes? Just this weekend I was at the shoe store and purchased a fine set of Jordans with some high velocity lead. Today at lunch time, I will more than likely shoot someone in the face for a sandwich. Or maybe I’ll just use currency.

26Limabeans

Cash and carry. Carry and cash.
