Weinstein’s latest jihad

| August 18, 2016

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation is on a jihad against Christians once again – this time, an Air Force officer has violated the Constitution by having a Bible on his desk. According to Fox News;

“It [the Bible] is very obviously a statement of Christian preference, Christian primacy,” MRFF founder Mikey Weinstein told me. “Had that been the Book of Satan or the Koran there would be blood in the freaking streets.”

He accused Maj. Steve Lewis, a supervisor at the Reserve National Security Space Institute, of “harboring and encouraging a truly abhorrent example of First Amendment civil rights violations.”

As always, when these MRFF stories come around, I went to their website to get the straight poop. I got nuthin’. After navigating through the popups begging for money for MRFF, I got to this;

Military Religious Freedom Foundation

There’s supposed to be a Wall? I need to buy a brick for this Wall?

[Colonel Damon Feltman, the commander of the 310th Space Wing] stressed that Air Force personnel are free to exercise their constitutional rights to practice their own religion “as long as it is respectful of other individual’s rights to follow their own belief system in ways that support good order and discipline and don’t detract from (the) military mission.”

“As long as he’s not doing something excessive, the existence of a Bible or the Koran or the Torah or some other religious article is not prohibited,” Col. Feltman said. “It’s what you do with it when you have it.”

From Patheos;

It all began with an email from someone who deals with Lewis on a regular basis:

“It certainly gives the appearance of favoritism toward one religion,” says a Peterson military member who insisted on anonymity for fear of retribution. “I’m a Christian myself, and it’s concerning. I don’t think people should be promoted or given opportunities based on whatever [religion] they are. It should be about your performance.”

That’s right: A Christian blew the whistle on his also-Christian commanding officer.

Yeah, and Iraq Veterans Against the War were all Iraq Veterans, too.

Weinstin used to write about these cases, but now he just links to news sites like Fox and puts up donation links to feed his totally useless endeavor to make all members of the Armed Services religious eunuchs.

The Constitution forbids Congress from writing laws that establish a national religion, it doesn’t prevent anyone from practicing their own religion which is what Mikey wants.

I thought Trump was going to build a wall.

Oh and Mikey Weinstein…

MSG Eric

Hell Yeah

IDC SARC

I have a bible and a Koran here in mine.

Fuck you Whinestein.

Hondo

IMO, Mikey WHINEstein should listen to this highly NSFW as well as not suitable around prudes, clergy, or small children video clip – and take its message to heart. All 82 times.

That would IMO be far more productive than what he actually does for that roughly $300k a year he “earns” as head of the MRFF.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

Do any of those 300,000 dollars have “In God We Trust” printed on them??

Hmmmm…

Ex-PH2

That’s a negatory, nbc54ACT. All Whinestein’s ‘dollars’ are electronic funny money, non-denominational in appearance, like Bitcoins.

Snotcrow

Since 1956… instead of using the unofficial motto “E pluribus unum” which more harbor the spirit of America in my opinion.

Hondo

Correct if paper. However, all current US coins have both mottos.

2/17 Air Cav

“It [the Bible] is very obviously a statement of Christian preference, Christian primacy.” Yeah, if you read Marx, you must be a communist. If you read comics, you must be a comedian. If you read the Koran, certainly you are a Muslim. And if you read the Bible, especially the Old Testament, you must be a Christian. I wonder which Moerk wannabe reported this.

3E9

Does anyone take this idiot seriously?

Peter the Bubblehead

Unfortunately, too many base commanders seem to.

Anyone else notice that all these MRFF complaints seem to be coming from Air Force installations? Why is that?

2/17 Air Cav

No war. Bored.

Hondo

WHINEstein is ex-AF, as I recall. He appears to have the proverbial hardon for his old service.

If I had to hazard a guess, I’d guess his USAF career wasn’t much fun – for either him or the USAF.

Silentium Est Aureum

Dude, if he found the Air Force too tough….

2/17 Air Cav

Someone does or he wouldn’t be pulling in a couple hundred thou a year.

Hondo

More proof that PT Barnum was right, 2/17.

Ex-PH2

How come we never hear complaints from Mikey Whinestiner about Wiccans and Druids in the military?

68W58

Shhh-nasty xians are doubleplusungood to Mikey’s donator base, can’t go pointing out his obvious hypocrisy or else you’ll give away the game.

IDC SARC

He’s skeeeered….cuz he suffers from unlrelenting mittelschmerz

USAF E-5

Maybe one of you Lawyers could explain this to me: MRFF is supported by principally, government grants. How is the support, by the government of Atheism, not a government supported religion? It really pisses me off that we have 2 organizations (MRFF and IAFF) that receive millions of dollars to sue the government, by the government, in defense of their belief system. How the hell is that different from any other belief system? Ok, vent achieved, I’ll reset now. But I would like an explanation.

Ex-PH2

A reasonable explanation is that no one has yet sued Mikey Whinestain for his prejudicial attitude toward religion in his breathless gallop to blot out the stains of real religious freedom.

Mike

Probably because Atheism is not a religion or belief system because they believe in nothing.

charles w

Being agnostic myself,I found evangelical atheists to be big assholes. They do have a belief system. It is to push thier agenda onto everyone else. They have meetings (church) when the whole point of atheism is not to go to church. This asshole needs to be knocked down a peg or two.

Semper Idem

Nope; you’re thinking Nihilism. Atheism simply states that there is no God.

Casey

Atheism is a belief system just as much as mono/polytheism or paganism.

Atheists don’t have proof of the nonexistence of God, nor can they show proof of nonexistence in a scientific manner, hence they much rely on faith. Or belief. Take your pick.

2/17 Air Cav

“How is the support, by the government of Atheism, not a government supported religion?”

The Supreme Court has yet to define the term “religion” but it has waltzed and tango-ed around it quite a few times. At first blush, the answer to your question would appear to be that there must be a deity of some sort involved but that is not necessarily true. What’s more, the Supreme Court would be violating that 1st A if it set the bounds for what is and is not a religion by virtue of its defining a religion. In short, lawyers can’t help. It’s actually a good question but one for which there is no direct answer.

Wow! When I was younger and living in the barracks, I had a King James Version bible, playboy magazine, condoms, 5 knives and a hatchet in my wall-locker. I had a Van Halen poster, George Strait poster, American flag, confederate flag, Texas state flag and picture of Jesus hanging on my wall. I had beer in the fridge and a bottle of George Dickle hid in the ceiling tiles.

Can you just imagine how bad they would loose their minds with me if that was today?

By the way, I now and always have self identified as a male??????

SFC D

Sounds fairly normal to me. YMMV.

Roger in Republic

My father used to call GW Dickle “Field Grade whiskey”.

HMC Ret

I left a bottle of booze buried under the barracks at the Navy Hospital, San Diego when I PCS in 69. Wonder if it’s still there? It was rotgut then; it would have turned to bile by now.

John Robert Mallernee

Several months before I became a soldier in the United States Army, I was baptized as a convert in The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints (i.e., the so-called “Mormon” church), primarily as a result of seeing a copy of the BOOK OF MORMON on a secretary’s desk where I was employed, and being curious about it.

So, I’m all in favor of individuals displaying favorite books, including scriptures, on their desk.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Did Major Lewis favor christian subordinates over non-christian subordinates?

That would indeed be a problem, an open bible? Not so much.

As a heathen non-believer an open bible on someone’s desk is about as much of a threat to me as a goldfish….

Weinstein doesn’t represent non-believers so much as push his own religion which is to get all religion and reference to religion removed from the military I guess based on his actions. I prefer not to be called an atheist, because that implies that I might be vehemently opposed to religious practices. I’m more of a “I just don’t give a shit, because it means nothing to me” kind of non-believer.

Your god makes you happy and keeps you from being a complete asshole then by all means worship away.

Just remember that not all of us are required to accept or respect your version of the world anymore than you are required to accept or respect mine.

You merely have to tolerate me and that’s all I’m required to do in return, that’s different than acceptance and respect, and it’s quite good enough for me.

SFC D

There it is. Simple, straightforward, and honest. Couldn’t agree more.

MSG Eric

I wonder what his plan is for Chaplains and their offices in each unit. He was probably already told fuck off a few times by Chaplains who have a multitude of religious accoutrements in their offices.

My last unit had a Buddhist Chaplain. I bet that would cause him to blow a blood vessel in his neck.

SFC D

I had a Chaplain that was prior service, 11B SFC Drill Sergeant. Made for a very effective Chaplain. He said “ya gotta know when to hug ’em, and when to kick ’em in the ass!” Even the atheists and agnostics loved they guy.

HMC Ret

Speaking of Chaplains: My wife and I were married by a Navy CAPT Chaplain at the Navy Hospital, Long Beach. True. She was in the Army at the time and I was a Sailor.

How many were married by a military Chaplain? I’ve not met but a few.

A Proud Infidel®™

WHINEstein strikes yet again with his militant atheism campaign. Maybe someone needs to tie him up in a parking space so he gets mistaken for a red van. I wouldn’t piss on his head if his ass was on fire and his brain was catching!

Dave Hardin

Once again I must point out he is not an Atheist.

HE IS A JEW

He seems to be on a crusade against Christians.

Semper Idem

Ah…but does he practice Judaism? It’s possible to be of the Jewish ethnicity but a member of some other religion.

Dave Hardin

Yes he does. He states that he prays several times a day. Being a Jew is no more of an ethnic class than being Islamic is. There are Jews from many ethnic classes, yes even black. The Jews in Ethiopia go back thousands of years. Mikey as best I can tell is not a blind supporter of the government of Israel. He has people on his foundation that are very bright people. As with many organizations, the opposition often makes the wrong assessment as to the depth and ability of their opponent. Lawrence Wilkerson as an example. I agree with some and disagree with many other opinions the man has. He however and extremely bright, well educated, articulate individual with an impressive resume. Wilkerson was very much in favor of changing our diplomatic arm to a more civilian less military structure. Pulling military out of Iraq and Afgan and letting civilian diplomacy take over. He is pro military as a general rule but holds a liberal tone most of the time. In any event, he has certainly earned his due respect agree with him or not. Personally, I disagree with him more often than not. Mikey does these little side shows of his to keep attention on his foundation. Its a money raising scam in my opinion. Any press is good press as the story goes. He does a poor job of making it clear what his beliefs are and therefore gets associated with being an Atheist. I am Atheist…Mikey is not. I am anti-theist, Mikey is not. I do not support the existence of Israel in its current form. I doubt Mikey would go that far. His buddy Wilkerson just might, he is no fan of the debacle we call Israel. I do not believe that anyone should be restricted from having a book of their religious beliefs on display or otherwise. So long as I am free to display my ridicule for religion in general. If I kept Hitch’s “God is Not Great” on my desk, open and highlight to the page that says. “Our belief is not… Read more »

SFC D

In 24 years active duty, I was only offended by “open displays of Christianity” whether it be a bible on a desk or a bible verse on an e mail signature when I knew that the person doing the displaying was a lying, posing, hypocritical POS, spouting biblical platitudes and sporting a holier than thou attitude when it was common knowledge that their weekend activities were less than chaste and pure.

MSG Eric

Funny how often that happens in life.

SFC D

Had a female team chief that was all “praise Jesus” at work but on the weekend she had more hands under her skirt than a whole platoon of muppets.

GR_ATC

BWAAAAAHHHAAAAHHHAAAA!!!!!!!

Platoon of Muppets!

You win the internet!

2/17 Air Cav

Yeah, I have to second that. I haven’t had many chuckles today, but that was one, a platoon of muppets.

MSG Eric

And how many people have qurans and other muslim religious items like prayer rugs in their offices or work spaces due to deployments to Iraq or Afghanistan.

Seems to me he’s just garnering publicity to feed is fat ass for another year because he found a nitch that’s a popular fad. I’d be curious how many other religions in the military he goes after.

And if I have something in my office that you don’t like, fuck off. Its my office and nothing in it is unprofessional or porn. So, fuck off.

Green Thumb

IVAW = Losers.

Dave Hardin

Holy Shit…an open Bible. Whats next? Feltman’s Space Wing might have developed a super weapon to communicate with the heavens.

I bet they are secretly developing plans to attack the Un-Holy with swarms of locusts. This was a close call, thank God (no preference which one) the Jew stepped in an saved people like me.

Saved by the Jew once again. Makes me want to wack the end of dick off just to say thanks bro.

I do love the pickles though.

Dave Hardin

I should go to his site and post Jew jokes. Hmmm…if only I knew one…maybe somewhere out there…

Q: How many Jew can you fit in a Volkswagen?

A: All of them if you use the ash tray.

You know funny shit like that.

IDC SARC

Dammit Dave! I laughed so hard I almost dropped my can of Zyclon-B.

Atkron

That’s some funny shit right there, I don’t care who you are.

Well, Jesus was a sailor and he walked upon the water.

Mikey must have a hair up his anal orifice about that, too.

How much of his money comes from that sleazoid crapweasel Soros?

David

If you look at the picture, it is the last chapter of Phillipians, which is one of the most innocuous “love everyone and be happy” chapters in the Bible. Yeah, that’s sure to intimidate the masses…

Semper Idem

As a non-practicing Catholic turned Atheist, I say fuck this Weinstein cretin with Bernasty’s dick. It’s this bullshit that makes us all look bad. Hey Whinerstein, tolerance is a two-way street.

Atkron

How do you take any adult male named ‘Mikey’ serious?

Atkron

Never understood why the mere sight of a bible would give someone a case of the vapors.

Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Last time I checked, an Air Force Major wasn’t Congress. So, how can the Major be violating the Constitution when there is nothing in this Amendment about that sort of thing?

2/17 Air Cav

You can thank the Supreme Court. It wasn’t always so. State religions and religious tests for public office, taxpayer direct support for churches, even laws against blasphemy were okay and the two first main clauses were as much a protection for those states and their practices as they were anything else. One wouldn’t guess that nowadays. It’s good to know our history to trace, in my view, how screwed up we have become in so many ways, thanks to the Supreme Court.

Benghazi.

Ex-PH2

Frankly, I have never understood the desperate need for physicists to search for the God particle (the Higgs boson). And when they found it – last year, I believe – they were SO disappointed and said, ‘Well, there must be something ELSE.’

I’m still waiting for answers on the debate over a Martian meteorite that had a worm microtunnel embedded in it, and just what the Hell IS that odd system 1482 light years away? Are we being sent a signal that we don’t recognize? And who sent out the ‘wow’ signal, for Pete’s sake?

I ask, but get no answers. I’ll go back to interstellar warfare and transdimensional symbiosis now, thank you.

MSG Eric

And to top it off, we don’t even have lightsabers yet. Its like Scientists aren’t even trying.

Ex-PH2

I know. Einstein told them and they just pooh-poohed it. They can figure out the warp bubble, they know how to make light cancel itself, but they still can’t figure out how to make light solid.

Man, I’ll bet they call him ‘Whirligig Albert’, too.

HMC Ret

WOW is right. Been decades now and the pointed-headed academics have tried desperately to explain it away, without success.

Also have tried to recreate, also w/o success.

VERY exciting.

And you guys complain about Wikileaks!

We weren’t supposed to hear that, you know.

Fact is, when Jefferson made reference to a “wall of separation between church and state” he meant a “wall” that would protect the rest of us from (a) tyrannical govt and (b) people like Mikey, who use govt to persecute anyone who gets in their way.
