Anais A. Tobar

A couple of people have sent us links to the Miami Herald in regards to the story of Air Force Lieutenant Anais A. Tobar who was found dead in her room in the United Arab Emirates;

First Lt. Anais A. Tobar, 25, was found dead in her room, according to a U.S. Air Force spokesperson. The Air Force’s Office of Special Investigations is still investigating the circumstances of her death.

According to the Department of Defense, she was in the UAE supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S.-led operation against the Islamic State.

She was assigned to the Fourth Maintenance Squadron, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina. She was deployed in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, when she died.

From The Air Force Times;

The maintenance squadron, part of the 4th Maintenance Group, Air Combat Command, is responsible for equipment maintenance for the largest F-15E Strike Eagle fighter wing in the Air Force, according to the base.

She was born in Venezuela and moved with her family to Florida when she was a child. She was commissioned after college and she was named “company grade officer of the year” of the Fourth Maintenance Group at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base last year.

Sad. Here’s hoping that the investigation comes to a quick conclusion and that her family receives all the support they deserve. Otherwise, not much to say except RIP, LT.

Well said. She looks so young or am I so old. RIP LT

Agree. Until the investigation results are known, there is nothing else to say. (She was young, SJ, and you are old. Welcome to the club.)

Found dead in her room… died of a non-combat injury?
Was she murdered?

2/17 Air Cav

Adam. Adam. Adam. There is an investigation which will, at the very least, establish the cause of death. That is why no one is going where you went. We have to wait. In the meantime, we ask comfort for her grieving family.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

That’s a terrible event for a young officer and her family…hoping they can find some peace.

SFC D

Rest easy, LT. Prayers for the family sent.

Since I’m at the base in question I’ll let you know what I know:

The investigation is already concluded and they have announced their results to at least base senior leadership (scuttlebutt took the news out from there). No one else is at fault, involved, or in line to face a court martial etc.

I don’t want to say more until there is an official release since what I have is the rumor mill, and though it is normally accurate, it’s not infallible. But when the official report comes out, expect it to just be a tragic death with no one to blame. My sympathies and prayers are currently with her family and co-workers who are all going to be asking themselves what they could have done differently or better, and wondering if they could have saved her life.

May they find peace and closure in this tragedy.

Unfortunately this is the second time someone has been found dead in their room while I was deployed at this base in “an undisclosed location, Southwest Asia,” and I for one would really appreciate it if we could stop having this happen.

Things happen. We lost one of our Air Force Ladies in 2009 on FOB Shield. Simply became ill and died during the Dustoff flight. Things happen… 🙁
