Thursday morning feel good stories
In Kalispell, Idaho, a quick thinking homeowner met a criminal at the door when he tried to force his way into her home. She gave him a dose of bear-spray which seemed to work. Police are still looking for him.
AW1Ed sends us a story from Portland, Oregon where a man tried to smack some love back into his woman, but she stabbed him. He’s in the hospital rethinking his choice of women.
Bobo sends us a link from Lyman, South Carolina where Jody Ray Thompson got into an argument with someone outside the local watering hole. Thompson pulled out a gun and began shooting into a crowd of people. He wounded three people before one of the wounded pulled out his own legal, registered gun and returned fire, striking Thompson in the leg and ending his murderous rage and saving countless people from being shot.
In Greenood, Indiana Paul Kinnaman stole a BMW and led police on a car chase, crashing the stolen vehicle into four other cars. When he finally stopped, he pulled out a gun and pointed it at a police officer who shot and wounded him. He’s in the hospital. I only mention it because Kinnaman should have been in jail – in 2011, he was sentenced to 42 years in prison for dealing drugs, not his first arrest – his arrest record goes back to 2003. In November 2014, Franklin Circuit Court Judge J. Steven Cox released Kinnaman after serving only 4 years of his 42-year sentence – that’s why he was on the street that night stealing cars, creating mayhem and shooting at police officers. Unfortunately, he’s expected to recover from his wounds.

Bear Spray might turn some invaders away, but a couple of well placed shots will assure that they don’t continue in that vocation.
Bear spray accompanied by the impact of a cast iron skillet works quite well.
I was more than a little curious about the Indiana story of the guy sentenced to 42 years who was out in 4 to ply his trade at the expense of Indiana’s citizens. In 2013, Indiana overhauled its criminal code. My take on the changes, which I scanned, is that they were written by inmates and defense counsel. One of the changes allows judges to reduce sentences unilaterally. Previously, the prosecutor had to agree to such reductions. So, this career criminal (to be clear, I refer to the inmate, not the judge here) writes his letter from the joint to the judge and the judge lops off decades from the guy’s sentence. And the prosecutor’s reaction? “I’m not going to second guess the judge. I’m not in a position to do that. I have a job to do. I try to do the best I can and I’m sure the judge feels he’s doing the best he can.” [Melvin] Wilhelm. Holy shit. Best of luck to you who live in Indiana. (Too bad the SOB is still breathing. Again, to be clear, I refer to the inmate, not the judge or, for that matter, Melvin.)
Sweet tap-dancing Freyja, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is going on here? (Also, who paid off who? Some loose drug money landing in certain civil servant’s pockets?)
Sounds like all three need to be seeing the outside world through vertical bars – the inmate, the judge, and the prosecutor.
Maybe Kinnaman was another of Obama’s nonviolent drug offenders.
Kalispell is no longer in Montana near Flathead Lake?
Haha, I caught that too. The American side of the Flathead Valley is probably the most beautiful area I’ve ever been in. I didn’t make it to Kalispell, but I stayed the night in Whitefish.
I spend most of my time trying to locate where these stories happened because today’s local journalists just don’t tell you anymore. The paper was in Idaho, so I took a shot.
Here’s another one for ya: http://www.wxyz.com/news/police-security-guard-shoots-at-suspects-after-he-was-attacked-on-his-way-home-from-work-in-Detroit
Well, got nothing at the link. Hopefully the dude is ok, and inflicted serious damage. Can’t depend on judges to keep bad guys locked up.

Since it’s Detroit, the reporter looks like he is wearing a bullet-proof vest. The press must now be embedded with the police troops? This ain’t hell, but ….
I always thought that bear spray would be more powerful, but somewhere I read otherwise, that bear spray is weaker than your average people spray, due to the more sensitive nature of a bear’s nose.
Too bad. Sounds like this idjit deserved a snoot full of the strongest stuff available.
Almost any spray that has a good propellant behind it will work, if you can get it right into the attacker’s face.
Muzzle blast spray is pretty powerful as well.
Especially if it’s propelling 158 grains of .357 Mag JHPs.
Think it was you had a good tip the other day – wasp spray. Highly directional and relatively long range. Like that muzzle blast spray, though.
No, bear spray has almost double the OC content as regular police spray. It’s 2% OC, and what the police carry is usually between .8% and 1.2%. The difference is that the police spray comes out in a stream whereas bear spray comes out in a mist to cover a larger area.
Dear Portland, OR,
Let me sing a song for you,
“Looking for love in all the wrong places. . . ”
(some jokes never get old)
Translation: Mass shooting stopped with good guy with a gun.
I find it incomprehensible that someone who is obviously a career criminal and was given a 42-year sentence was allowed to leave jail after 4 years, and went right back to his life of crime. That’s the same as scot-free.
Looked up the SC incident. Local news said the trumpiteer was “illegally in possession of a firearm.”
A great thing a LEGAL CCW person was there. My only regret is that the good guy didn’t follow protocol – ya’ know, two to the chest & one to the head.
