Yesterday, a man walked into a Canadian armed forces recruiting station in Toronto. He attacked one member of the Canadian military, first striking and then slashing his victim’s arm. He then attempted to slash another member of Canada’s military before he was subdued.
This article’s title is the reason the attacker gave for his attack.

Now, some tell us that US policy in the Middle East is to blame for current Islamic terrorism. Sorry, but I’m not buying that. Last time I checked, Toronto wasn’t in the US.
Then again London, Madrid, and Paris aren’t in the US either; neither is Mumbai, Bali, northern Nigeria, or Nairobi. But that same inane rationale (“It’s the USA’s fault!”) was offered by some to explain those attacks by radical Islamic terrorists, too.
I’m thinking US policy isn’t the reason at all. Instead, I’m thinking that Samuel Huntington may well have been correct when he proposed his Clash of Civilizations hypothesis over 20 years ago.
But that’s just me.

I’m more concerned with the lack of gun usage. I thought guns were the reason we have all this violence. Do you mean to tell me knives are dangerous, too? When will we start the anti-knife movement?

I once had a rock confiscated as an illegal weapon. LZ Jamie, 1969 I lived in the gun ring of 105s, kept my m16 within reach, and had 12 inch cooks knives nearby. I took a pair of shoelaces and braided a net around a fist sized stone. Had a nice thick handle to tuck under my belt.
They flew out a brand new 2lt to confiscate my “Unauthorized/illegal” weapon. I mean he was so new that his fatigues had never been laundered, (you can tell, remember?) I unbraided the shoelaces and handed him the rock. He blinked a few times and scooted back to the chopper, which had kept the rotor turning. (It was a scary place for some folks)

battlefield. When last seen, the officer was boarding his HU1Y with my rock tightly clutched in his
pale fist, like I would hold a grenade with the pin missing. Somewhere, back in a rear area, he no doubt
turned over the deadly weapon to a captain, who may have forwarded it higher. (He wasn’t there on his
own initiative)
That rock is fer sure *safe* NOW!!!! That rock is locked up somewhere in the Pentagon along with reams
of written reports, classified, guarded and under multi-keyed security.
I’m lucky they didn’t charge me with having an unauthorized rock. (Probably a viet cong rock to boot)
