Secret Service agent robbed

| December 23, 2015

Someone in the the President’s protective detail in Washington, DC had a number of official items stolen from his personal vehicle the other day. Those items included a ” black Sig Sauer handgun, an APX6000 radio, handcuffs, a USB flash drive, a black Patagonia bag and a Secret Service badge, number 1266″ according to CNN.

The Secret Service declined Tuesday to comment on the incident. But a law enforcement official noted that the USB is encrypted and password protected and argued the theft does not appear to be a threat to the agency.

It’s not known what was contained on the stolen flash drive.

Others inside the Secret Service expressed surprise that such a crime could take place so close to the law enforcement agency’s headquarters in the middle of the afternoon.

The CNN report wants to make sure that you know the Sig that was stolen was “black” so I hope you were sufficiently frightened by that thought. The victim agent recalls seeing someone reach into his car, but didn’t see them take anything.

Thanks to David for the link.

So, once again it seems that the biggest participants in the “gun show loop hole” are federal law enforcement officers who are supplying thieves.

Skippy

SCARY BLACK GUNS! Because the black paint makes them more daedly, unlike my parkarized (sp?) 1911.

And why in the hell did he leave these items in a vehicle? Even at my house I don’t leave anything of value in my car.

desert

Better yet, what the hell was he doing? his gun, cuffs, badge etc, he taking a nap somewhere , or maybe WITH someone?

Hondo

Love how he thought it was OK to store his duty firearm in a bag in his POV – which also appears, per the officer’s claim of seeing someone reach inside it, to have been unlocked at the time.

As I recall, storing your issued weapon in a POV was kinda a “no-no” when I was still in uniform.

3E9

My point exactly Hondo. I don’t know about the Secret Service, but at the PD I worked for you never, NEVER left a weapon in a vehicle. We had too many go missing doing crap like that.

UpNorth

Leaving a weapon in your vehicle, if you were caught, whether it was stolen or not, got you 30 days off without pay at my agency. You’re only allowed 30 without in a calendar year, if your transgressions got you more than 30, you were unemployed.
And, this guy saw someone reach into his vehicle, and didn’t run him down right away?

Bobo

At least the Prince Georges County PD takes the weapons out of the vehicle and leaves them on the side of the road.

Ex-PH2

I’m beginning to think Heinlein was right. My cats do have more sense than these idiots.

Flagwaver

That’s an unfair comparison.

Candle

When I read about this yesterday the article mentioned the back window was “unzipped”. He kept all this in a convertible??

Hondo

Hmm – missed that part. That makes it even “mo’ better”.

Hondo

Or maybe that should be “mo’ dumber”.

Pinto Nag

Everything I’ve read indicates the SS morale is in the tank right now. I just don’t think they care anymore.

Thunderstixx

Homer Simpson has more brains than these guys do…
“DOH” !!!!!

HEY, HEY, I KNOW, let’s pass laws against breaking into cars as well as stealing badges and firearms, no wait… Yeah, I thought that’s already been done. Now WHAT IF the perp is already a convicted felon, that makes it illegal for him to own or possess firearms and ammo, so WHY do we need more laws binding us law-abiding folks? All that does is aid and abet the criminals!

nousdefions

Close the theft loophole. Make criminals undergo background checks prior to stealing other peoples stuffs.

Flagwaver

Thanks. I needed that laugh.

Jarhead

Hmmmm…..The Sig was black; that ought to make it at least a tad easier to spot. Details matter so much. Did he mention whether or not it had a trigger? Course the biggie is whether or not the barrel was round. Oh yea, last but not least, was this weapon the kind that uses a magazine? Give us the details and I’m certain we’ll all be right on it. Probably can just about guarantee it will be found within say two years. That’s AFTER some D. C. local has used it in a crime.

Hondo

Probably so. I’m guessing the perp has already fenced it by now.

The Other Whitey

A BLACK Sig? MY GOD, THE HORROR!!! So…what if it was a pink Sig like the one a friend of mine bought for his wife? Does the bullet become less effective because the launcher wasn’t black?

CCO

Not to my knowledge; however, if the gunpowder was black, that would make a difference.

Richard

Wait! You mean that powder comes in colors? So I could get chartreuse or mauve or something else pretty? Does it come in different scents too? I wouldn’t want to offend anyone, would that make my weapon less offensive?

Yeah, well gray is a color and acetone is a smell. Can handle.

Pinto Nag

God, don’t give ’em any ideas. That’s all we need is scented gunpowder…

The Other Whitey

I’ve conducted extensive empirical testing and confirmed that standard propellant residue is a nigh-unstoppable aphrodisiac for the human female! Because every female I ever took to the range (excluding relatives, obviously) I had sex with immediately afterwards. For obvious reasons, I now only take my wife (and the aforementioned excluded relatives) shooting anymore. And it still works, because I consistently have sex with my wife (at her urging) immediately after returning from the range. It’s a damn good thing I don’t shoot corrosive ammo, because my weapons don’t get cleaned for a while.

In fact, my son who’s due any day now can be traced to a range day about 9-1/2 months ago.

Flagwaver

mmm… Bacon scented gun powder. I’m sold. Someone invent it, NOW!!!

Jarhead

Blackgunpowdermatters.

SFC D

There should be 1 job opening at the Secret Service about now

Skippy

at the rate these guys drop the ball, they may as well fire them all and start over Lol…..

Hack Stone

Actually, two openings. Secret Service member Arthur Baldwin, featured in TAH back on April 12 for breaking into his girlfriend’s apartment was killed in DC the same day he had a court appearance for the charges he was facing. Washington Post reported that he had several bankruptcies in his recent past, but somehow he still was hired. I thought that when you declared bankruptcy, you opened up a business selling software to the government.

GI JANE

He wins the Barney Fife Award.

Skippy

Word ^^^^^^^^ 🙂

A Proud Infidel®™

He could be like what you see manning a TSA groping gauntlet, the type that would make Barney Fife look like Chuck Norris, ya never know…

Hack Stone

I seem to recall a particular NAHCPO (Not An Honorary Chief Petty Officer) who worked for the TSA. I believe that period of his life was between losing his ability to practice law and becoming an Honorary Glider Pilot.

I’m just waiting for some female SS agent (or male, I’m not asking, he’s not telling) to have a pink firearm stolen from their car.

Tom Huxton

“The victim agent recalls seeing someone reach into his car, but didn’t see them take anything.”

Duhhhh
If I saw anyone reaching into MY car, I would suspect and investigate. Car was obviously unlocked. DUHHHH
Coulda/ shoulda used the trunk, dude.

Hack Stone

The papers say he had a soft top Jeep. With judgment like that, it makes me wonder if he can read a fuel gauge.

The Other Whitey

And this is the caliber of professional who guards the president’s life…
