Bergdahl trial

Bergdahl

So, the Bergdahl Theater began yesterday, you know, the part where the Army acts as if they’re going to punish the little Jason Bourne wannabe for deserting his unit on the field of battle and he went over to the enemies’ side of the war for five years. At least they made his nasty-leg-ass take off that maroon beret. But, Stars & Stripes writes about Navy SEAL master chief Jimmy Hatch who was severely wounded in an attempt to rescue Bergdahl from himself. His partner, Spike, a Belgian Malinois died in that attempt. The Army denies that anyone died looking for Bergdahl, you know contrary to evidence to the contrary, but they haven’t been clear if anyone was injured. Hatch, could testify to that point actually.

Hatch, his femur shattered, went through 18 surgeries in two years. He lost his military career and suffered from debilitating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He nearly took his own life. His fate inextricably tied to Bergdahl’s, Hatch said he would readily testify if he is called upon.

“I would tell them about the sacrifices of the group of individuals that went out with me on the night I was wounded,” Hatch said. “About the risks they took on behalf of Mr. Bergdahl because of his decisions.

“I would like Mr. Bergdahl and his family to hear what his decisions did to me and my family. I’d like to tell him about my injuries and about the difficulties my family and I continue to have.”

The Washington Post noticed that Bergdahl isn’t wearing the POW Medal in the picture above. However he is wearing two Good Conduct Medals, so I guess his Haqqani network captors didn’t give him any negative reports on his conduct.

Does the Overseas Bar reg still apply if you are not actually “PARTICIPATING”? I have never seen that many before… Just seeing those chevrons make me cringe and are a slap to everyone who’s ever earned them.

AR 670-1:
(13) One overseas service bar is authorized for each 6–month period of Federal service as a member of a U.S. Service participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom, the CENTCOM area of operations, or under the control of the Combatant Commander, CENTCOM, from 19 March 2003 to a date to be determined. The months of arrival to, and departure from the CENTCOM area of operations are counted as whole months.

Public hanging on Sicily D.Z. Their is good parking and bleachers for the crowd to relax on.

E-6 type, 1 ea

How hard would it be to get RVs in there, because I plan on showing up a few days early to tailgate.

sapper3307

Not a problem we can set up on Dragoon D.Z right next to it.

Hondo

One can dream. But, sadly, the Army uses the needle these days vice a rope.

And IMO you can bet your bottom dollar this . . . individual will not get the death penalty if convicted, even though IMO that’s exactly what he deserves.

desert

You bet, with “extreme prejudice”…or a firing squad so the dirty little bastard would see it coming..! That dog that was killed was worth a hundred scumbags like this one imho!!

Guard Bum

MFkr shouldnt be wearing 5 years worth of combat hashmarks thats for sure. Fuck him I hope he fries.

USMCMSgtRet

Correct me if I’m wrong because my AR 670-1 memory is a little off, but him wearing service stripes denotes deployments? He’s wearing 5 years worth because he was in captivity that long?

Shouldn’t he be wearing only 2 (maybe 3)?

19D2OR4 - Smitty

Each bar denotes 6 months in a combat zone.

Guard Bum

Damn it, that photo continues to piss me off…he shouldnt be a SGT either.

A retired general on FOX News last night said the CG of FORCOM made the decision to do the right thing rather than buckle to White House pressure. It’s refreshing to see a four star who cannot be retaliated against tell the political hacks “ain’t that nice”. What are they going to do, force him to retire and make even more money? For the uninformed, I used to say “Go F Yourself” until the Army sent me to the WO Kouth Course and they taught me to say “Ain’t that nice”.

AndrewRink

Love how the MF’er is wearing 10 combat strips. Probably the longest, single deployment in all of OEF.

Skippy

Those are overseas bars and I’ve seen many folks I was with over in Germany with way more then that…at Sargent Lol….
He didn’t earn any of them….

spd0302

Sorry, fat fingered the report button.

A Proud Infidel®™

Has that shittyassed little pus-nutted hippie-headed “hadji-POOSHT” (goat-boy) of a Santorum-stained dingleberry on a buck-toothed inbred Swamp Donkey’s ass ever even uttered a peep of remorse or regret over those who were KIA or WIA while on missions searching for him while he was on his happy hippie sojourn? Regardless of the outcome, once he gets out he’ll always know that there are the families, friends and Buddies of those killed and wounded looking for him out there as well as plenty of others that know who he is and what he did. I hope that like SUCKS for him wherever he goes from here on and a spot in hell awaits him when his time comes.

sapper3307

Don’t hold it back API. Give in to the dark side.

Skippy

So the army says no one was killed or injured!!!!!
Well I call BULLSHIT !!!!!!! and I could p$&@; it and I have 6 soliders that also know the t$)@
What a crock of shit !!!!!!
I wonder if the army can forget what happened dose that mean anyone can come foward and tell part of the whole t$&( ?????
That’s all 🙁

A Proud Infidel®™

The Soldiers that were cursed with having Bergdahl among them have corroborated that he was a very substandard Individual at the least, and I consider them as a VERY credible source. I believe that in a just World Bergdahl would face at least five charges of manslaughter as well.

Skippy

And that they are and where in 2010 nothing has changed nobody’s story has changed except the army harassment of them and anyone who has come foward and spoke about it….

The Other Whitey

In a just world, Bergdahl would have all that unearned bling torn off his jacket, then be made the guest of honor at a neck-tyin’ party.

Stacy0311

For all the handwringing asshats who are whining that he was punished enough, look up Garwood, Robert for the correct way to deal with a war time deserting POS

Hondo

Disagree. As I recall, Garwood got a reduction to E1, a DD and forfeiture of all back pay. He got no time in Leavenworth.

If you’d had said Slovik, Eddie – I’d agree with you. And as far as I know, searching for Slovik didn’t get anyone killed or crippled.

The Other Whitey

Well, Slovik wasn’t really a traitor per se. He was a deserter who was too dumb to live, but he actively tried to stay away from the krauts. Bergdahl is a different story.

Hondo

Quite possibly true. And yet Slovik rated the firing squad, but Garwood (who also was guilty of collaboration with the enemy during wartime) did not. Go figure.

The Other Whitey

I disagree. Garwood didn’t do time, and he didn’t hang.

Beast Incarnite

He has a CIB, and two good conducts but no personal awards……If he was tortured he would be eligible for a purple heart.

Hes a douche hope he gets some jail time.

Green Thumb

Shitbag.

Hondo

Agreed. Buck Fergdahl.

Skippy

And That He Is

NR Pax

When news of his capture first started circulating amongst here and a few other places, there was speculation about what happened. My take on it was “He’s one of ours. We get him back and then find out what happened.”

I was wrong about the first part of that declaration.

Hondo

From what I’ve seen, I suspect there’s at least a fair chance you’re right.

Slick Goodlin

Trivial Pursuit –

Bergdahl not wearing a POW medal? What’s the deal?
Military Court proceedings usually require a soldier to appear wearing all authorized awards and decorations.

Reminds me of an NCO Court-Martialed for wearing unearned medals…if he showed up in court not wearing them it could be seen as an admission of guilt.

Twist

I believe it is because the Pentagon never listed him as a POW.

Slick Goodlin

Strange, he’s still listed in Military Times “Hall of Valor” under POW Medal

Bowe Robert Bergdahl
Date of birth: March 28, 1986
Place of Birth: Idaho, Sun Valley
Home of record: Sun Valley Idaho
Status: POW

Bowe Bergdahl was held as a Prisoner of War for nearly five years after he was captured in Afghanistan, and was the longest-held Prisoner of War in the Wars on Terrorism.

Martinjmpr

I thought they promoted him to SSG while he was in captivity? Why is he wearing SGT/E5 stripes? Was the SSG promotion a clerical error?

sapper3307

Lars You out their??

B Woodman

That pic pisses me off.
I’d love to get close enough to take a sharp knife to those overseas stripes and those NCO stripes. And if his arm just happens to get in the way, well. . . . “ain’t that just too bad”.
And if the bleeding gets TOO bad, I guess I’ll just have to apply first aid. . . with a tourniquet. . . around his neck. . . . until the bleeding stops. . . .

Poetrooper

Can someone please clarify for me why this POS was a member of the 501st Airborne Infantry of the 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 25th Infantry Division, an Airborne BCT, yet has no jump wings? Was Bergdahl one of these fill-in troops who are sent to Airborne units without being jump qualified? If so, that could explain some of his feelings of not fitting in with his platoon, with not being a true part of it. I’m not making excuses for him; hell, I think he should be shot, but it could explain some of his alienation and his lack of loyalty to his platoon mates.

I was assigned to my TO&E unit, the 101st MP Detachment, before going to the division jump school then operating at Fort Campbell. We “legs” were treated like West Point plebes, with constant harassment until we got our jump wings, so I can imagine how a leg might be ostracized in a combat unit, especially a weird duck like this turd.

Anybody know? Hondo, you out there?

Skippy

Poetrooper. I was under the understanding he had jump wings I think I have a picture of him sporting them I’ll send it to Jonn… someone from his squad was on 11bravos talking about him the other day. the only reason I believed it was the details in his story lined up with some other info on him…. he did wash out of the coast guard for personally issue (aka) Head issues / mental health ?

Vic

“In 2006 he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard.

After 28 days in the Coast Guard Basic Training program, Bowe Bergdahl was discharged for unspecified psychiatric reasons. His discharge was “Uncharacterized.” The next year he enlisted in the Army. Then he went to Afghanistan.”
