ABC/WP poll: less gun control will prevent terrorism

| December 16, 2015

I know the Washington Post wants their money back for conducting this poll. It seems that, if you believe poll results, Americans think that more guns in the hands of private citizens will do more to prevent terrorism than the government.

ABC WP poll

Among the roughly three-quarters of Americans who doubt the government’s ability to prevent a lone-wolf attack, 57 percent oppose banning assault weapons, vs. 41 percent in support. Those numbers are reversed among those who are more confident in government counterterrorism –- 56 percent favor banning such weapons, while 42 percent are opposed.

The split is even more striking between those who see stricter gun control as the better way to fight terrorism, vs. “encouraging more people to carry guns legally.”

Of course, it’s all mental masturbation, anyway. The 2d Amendment protects Americans from the government taking our guns away. Even if the poll went the other way, the Bill of Rights protects a minority from a tyrannical majority. “The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” is pretty specific.

No big surprise here I bet someone in the White House is not happy with this

Richard

The survey was conducted December 10th through the 13th so post-Paris and post-San Bernardino. 33% democrats, 23% republicans, and 34% independents. With this bias, the results are a little surprising but why the bias against polling republicans?

Luddite4Change

What I actually found most surprising was the opposition to an “assault weapons” ban by the young with 59% against.

I didn’t read all the cross tabs, but were the final results normalized to reflect a closer demographic split of D/R/I nationwide?

Most of the polling organizations lean dem when they poll. And that isn’t even sorting out “independents” who lean dem.
From the article about the poll, this nugget is probably causing some gastric problems over at the DNC, Bloomberg’s place and Moms Demand All Kinds of Shit, “Many groups have moved from majority support for an assault weapons ban two years ago to majority opposition now: whites, 30- to 64-year-olds, suburbanites, political independents, moderates, residents of the West and Midwest, anyone without a post-graduate degree and those in $100,000-plus households”.

Hey, I have an idea!

How about an organization called ‘Moms Demand AKs?’

Wouldn’t that poke a hole in that balloon!?!

Maybe our fellow Americans aren’t as fucking stupid as a lot of them look and act…there might be hope for us yet!

I’m sure that ABC will do all they can to spin it their way, they ARE part of the hardcore DNC Pravda media!

What are “assault weapons”?

Automatic weapons are banned.

Machine guns have been banned since about the ’30s.

“Assault” is the crime of injuring, or threatening to injure, a person. Anything can be used to commit an assault, including a cafeteria tray, or mere words.

“Machine guns have been banned since about the ’30s”

Valerie, not actually banned. You can still get full auto weapons, you just have to jump through A LOT of hoops.

GOA is trying to change that.

I heard that they were working on doing that with silencers, but it’s got to get past B. Hussein 0bama and the rest of the Ginormous Whorehouse on the Potomac River!

Gun sports are the only one in which the absolute maximum ear-damaging noise is legally the only convenient option.

Luddite4Change

There has got to be a lawsuit in that fact somewhere. After all, a suppressor only really drop the noise level down from that of a jet engine to an un-muffled lawnmower (on a good day).

David

yeah, but the average idiot would want to sue the gun or ammo manufacturer, not the bureaucrat who mandated that we all get to say “huh?” a lot

The Other Whitey

Seems like more people are seeing the light. I actually find myself trusting this survey a bit more than most, because it displays results that ABC and Waaa-Post definitely didn’t want. Of course it probably won’t prevent the domed whorehouse in Sacramento from trying to ram more shit down my throat.

Hondo

“Domed Whorehouse of Sacremento”. Love that phrase, TOW. (smile)

It must be very confusing for these people to know there are those who aren’t afraid of GUNNZZZ.

I do feel for them. I understand the mind-bending idea, and how the tears stream down their little cheeks when they read the results.

There are shelters for people like that. There may even be drop-in groups where they can discuss their confusion with other such confused souls.

I guess it’s okay to wish them a Haddy Chrimble, randoobs, and other hearty.

Dana1371

Well did it again. Phat fingers pressed the wrong button. Anyway here is my reply, They can just check themselves into any local colleges’ “safe room” where there is no chance of dissenting thought, and they can touchy feely discuss until they graduate and cant find a job and live in mommies basement until they are 50.

BennSue

I just finished my upper level writing requirement for law school with the issue of adapting Australian law to the US, tl;dr not a chance in hell would Americans surrender a fundamental right.

Wireman611

Well I can see the heads popping around the conference table now, “We tell them how to think, how dare the proletariat think for themselves?”, being one of the phrases guaranteed to be thrown out.

Jonn, you need to pull this article ASAP – you are causing undue stress and anguish in a sizeable portion of the population. Stress counselors will be supplied to any that may need them 🙂 .
