Lanier: take the gunmen out
The most ardent anti-gun police officer in the country, Kathy Lanier, the police chief of the District of Columbia’s Metro Police Department told the “60 Minutes” audience that the police aren’t going to get to the scene of an active shooter, like the attack in Paris, in time to save them, so if they can’t get away from a gun man, they should “take the gunmen out – it’s the best option for saving lives before police can get there”, according to WTTG Fox5. Does she mean “take them out” for nice half-smoke and a root beer? Because no one in the District is armed – except for the army of law enforcement of various agencies who never seem to be on the scene when a crime happens. There are more than a dozen “police departments” inside the District besides the 4,000 member Metro PD.
The Washington Times is understating Lanier’s opposition to arming private citizens when they wrote “Chief Lanier…has enthusiastically supported the city’s efforts to limit handgun ownership”.
Lanier has actually placed herself between legal gun owners and their right to protect themselves with her complicated and costly licensing system that has allowed only a few dozen people in the District to become legal gun owners. On Facebook, Emily Miller, noted pro-second amendment journalist and DC resident asks; Chief, how can DC residents “take the gunman out” when you have only granted gun carry permits to 45 people?
Emily is one of those 45 licensed gun owners in the District. She got her license after she was a victim of a violent crime in DC. She wrote a book about her experiences with the DC Metro PD while she was trying to become a licensed gun owner there.

They never take into account the concept that words spoken to the media are words that remain forever etched into our current consciousness.
Take them out is a great idea except when you are unarmed, that requires a level of courage that’s hard to come by when folks believe they can hide or run. Running at a gunman when you are unarmed is never a great idea, unless it’s that or die. Then it becomes a question of how you choose to die at that moment.

My leftist mother-in-law asked me if I still carry a gun. I asked her if she still had a fire extinguisher. If she only knew how many times I was armed in her house, she would faint. Same with my leftist brother-in-law and his wife, who stated that she would never allow her children to be around firearms and would know if someone had them around them. One day we were getting ready to go to her brother’s house and she noticed I was packing. She told me I couldn’t do that because the sister-in-law would have a fit. That’s when I informed her of every time I was packing around her mom and her brother, and his wife and kids. She laughed all the way to her brother’s house. None of them know to this day and it has been 5 years.
I would rather never need it and have it than need it and not have it.
Eeeeeyup! I have the same mentality about my CC firearm as I do about the five pound dry chemical fire extinguisher I keep in my pickup truck. Having it with me gives me adittional peace of mind, but I hope I never have to use it either on a fire or a group of punks ( DC Fire Extinguishers are loaded with magnesium carbonate which irritates eyes, sinuses and windpipes much like CS gas, I’ve been “tagged” by the stuff during a small workplace fire, and I’ll vouch for that!).

So, DC residents are supposed to “take them (the gunmen) out” if there’s a shooting incident, because the DC police cannot get there quickly enough.
Question for ya, Chief Lanier. You don’t want law-abiding DC residents to have firearms. So if there’s a shooting incident, in the words of a commercial from yesteryear: since the law-abiding citizens won’t be armed and the gunmen will . . . “How they gonna do that?”

As per the ‘Security Mom’ on CNN, she said we should do what the French did.
Rather than employ the active shooter ‘RUN, HIDE, FIGHT’ plan, which is the widely accepted way to think when seconds count and your life depends on your choice, the CNN ‘Security Mom’ says to ‘RUN, HIDE, PLAY DEAD’.
So let’s marry up Chief Lanier’s plan with the ‘Security Mom’ plan and you score the results.
‘RUN, HIDE, PLAY DEAD, TAKE ‘EM OUT (if playing dead did not work)’.

In other recent news from the Nation’s capitol, there is an increase in MS-13 related murders in the District. I’m guessing that the chief was speaking to the gang members when she suggested “taking out” an active shooter since they are the only ones armed.

JUST HOW are DC denizens supposed to take out or repel an armed perp when they are severely restricted by law from being armed themselves? A criminal carrying a firearm in DC is as protected by law from people defending themselves as he, she or it is in say, Chicago, LA or Mexico.

Long-time reader, first-time poster. Retired Navy Chief, submarines the whole time, so not a combat veteran like my ground or aviation brethren. Was on the floor and end of the building when the Navy Yard shooting started. People thought that someone had dropped a table in the atrium, but I knew better, so did the Navy Captain who had just returned from Afghanistan. Our thought was to tear a desktop off, and see if we could get to him before he got us but were ordered by a Flag to get the others out and evacuate the building. Still hear people screaming and wonder if we could have been effective at saving just one of the victims. The after-action report detailed the entanglement and jurisdiction issues between Chief Lanier’s people and every other swinging authorized gun-issued Government Tom, Dick and Harry agency, but that did nothing for those in the building. The contract security guys are nice, but not trained for that event. Her comments are beyond ridiculous, but she simply is making noise to sound like she knows what she is doing, based on the current potential situations. Politics at its worst? Probably. Helpful information? Nope. A DC councilperson suggested carrying a baseball bat (what, he doesn’t like softball or cricket?), much like the VP’s advice to fire a shotgun through a door. Not helpful at all, just talk to talk. Thanks.

Hillary will distribute guidance to say if there’s an active shooter, “Don’t do that because…..9/11!” That ought to stop them in their tracks and they’ll drop their guns.
The D.C. citizens are just cannon fodder you see. It takes time for her boys to finish off that last French Cruller from the Dunkin Donuts, lace up them tactical boots, and get to the crime scene. And, if you get shot/killed, you just need suck it up and “take one for the team”.
If people use the weapon it’s much easier to prosecute them if they survive and then they can claim they are on the right side of combating “gun violence”. I don’t believe for one second this shrew believes citizens should own firearms.

About the Chiefs comment I’m a cup half full guy. We just heard a lib/prob recognize the right of self defense. Now we just need to get her to recognize the right of law abiding self governing citizens to carry the means to perform it
