Thursday morning feel good stories
First up this morning is Houston, Texas, where a homeowner shot a burglar in the noggin. There’s no word on the condition of the perp, but another local media source says police have called for their homicide unit.
In Newport News, Virginia, a man tried to rob a convenience store by shoving a gun in the face of the clerk. Instead, the clerk at the store only gave up a few of his bullets. The thief ran out of the store and flagged down police for assistance.
In Colorado Springs, Colorado, it looks like a homeowner shot and killed a burglar in his home by reading between the lines of the article. I may be wrong, but I’m not usually.

Re: Newport News story: if you’re a criminal and you get shot, it’s not wise to flag down the pohlease people. They might arrest you after they talk to the person who shot you.
Looks like we have a “batting line” today of 3 for 3, with (likely) 2 HR and a triple (wounded perp in custody). A fine “day at the plate” indeed for law-abiding citizens.
After completing my range card covering various locations within the NBC Chamber, I have a technical question for the judges (in case I ever have the need to fill out and sign my own scorecard):
Bad guy gets shot standing at the top of the stairs, but after gravity, force and inertia do their things, expires at the bottom of the stairs.
Is this a DRT, DOT, or even a sub-category – DDT (Dead Down There) ?
Thanks in advance for the wise and well thought out advice (ha!)
My take is that “dead on premesis” or “dead at the scene” = DRT; if the perp leaves the scene and expires elsewhere, that’s DOT.
However, Jonn coined the term – so his opinion would be definitive.
And that is why YOU are Hondo. BTW, ever been to Hondo? It’s just West of Slammintonio.
Hondo is nice little town in a German part of Texas. I go dove hunting around there almost every year. Deer hunting isn’t bad either.
Some of the farmers are rather stingy though. I offered to pay a farmer 50 bucks to let us dove hunt for a day and offered to shoot some pigs for him while we were there. He had just told me how he had lost $50k of crops to the pigs that year. But he still turned me down.
I later found out that hunting pigs is much harder than you think as you are likely not the first person to hunt a sounder of pigs.
The two hogs I caught in my trap last week each had small caliber bullet wounds prior to entering the trap. I don’t know, it could have been attempted self murder.
I have 80 acres in NE Texas 2/3 woods and 1/3 pasture. You guys want to hunt or shoot, come on. No charge. Maybe Jonn could put us in touch for anyone interested.
Hey GDC,
I wouldn’t mind taking you up on that offer. I found the best way is corn soaked in some cheap beer for a few days, then bury in a shallow trench in the area(s) they frequent.
I live about 35 miles east of Dallas.
I don’t know if John maintains our email addresses, if he does just ask him for mine. If not, let me know I’ll post it.
Git ready. I won’t be up at my place this weekend but plan on it for the next one. Will try email you soon as possible.
Are you some place where the bluebonnets flood the land in the springtime?
Can I come down and shoot things with my camera?
There are rich Bluebonnet fields about 45 minutes away. Plan on coming down next spring. The place has a small house with running water. Good base camp.
no offense but I used to hear Neal Boortz use the DRT acronym frequently on his radio show way, way back when. He’s retired now but the link contains most of his oft used phrases and acronyms.

Hmm – learn something new every day. Didn’t have a chance over the years to listen to Boortz regularly (I absolutely loved his show those times when I could catch it), so I was unaware that he had prior claim to possibly having coined the term.
Either way, TAH is Jonn’s place – so Jonn’s opinion is still definitive IMO.
DRT has been around for years, as has ‘unassing the AO’ etc. I’ve heard cops use DRT too, kind of a differentiator between it and DOA.
Hondo was a character in a book written by the great Louis L’Amour. John Wayne played him in the movie Hondo.
I’m waiting for the Quentin Tarantino Feel Good Story. The one where he is mugged, held up, car jacked of has a home break in. He obviously won’t call the police, after all they’re the murderers. I imagine now he’s paying for extra private security, knowing the local Hollywood Police may be a little slow on their response to his address. I’m not saying he should die. I wouldn’t wish that even on an, “anything for a little more publicity” idjit like him. Nothing wrong though with people dying, as long as it’s the right people. I would just love to read how he had his ass thoroughly worn out and handed to him by two or three thugs.
I agree with you, Sparks. A few mugging so few days apart with some knots left on his head & body; a couple of home invasions, etc.
Wouldn’t hurt my feelings a bit.
I once heard Conservative defined as “A liberal who has been mugged”. However the Libtards of today would sue the Police for not protecting them from the mugger.
Castle Rock v. Gonzales (SCOTUS, 2005) says that if they do so, they would lose.
