Carter: US begins direct action in Iraq and Syria

| October 28, 2015

last convoy out of Iraq

I know you’re shocked, shocked I tell you that Ashton Carter announced yesterday that US forces will begin to take direct action against ISIS in Syria and Iraq according to NBC News. Of course, the action last week by Delta troops was a toe dipped into the waters of public opinion;

Carter and Pentagon officials initially refused to characterize the rescue operation as U.S. boots on the ground. However, Carter said last week that the military expects “more raids of this kind” and that the rescue mission “represents a continuation of our advise and assist mission.”

This may mean some American soldiers “will be in harm’s way, no question about it,” Carter said last week.

I suspect that this is in reaction to the Russians who have plans to engage their own ground forces with anti-Assad rebels. This change in policy has not been entirely unexpected. This President is more worried about the legacy of his administration, so it stands to reason that he doesn’t want historians to blame the Nobel Prize winner for losing Iraq. Besides, he knows that the military, despite the fact that he’s screwed the living shit out of them in regards to pay and benefits, has been dependable when he needs his fat dragged from the fire, unlike his other agencies.

“This is combat and things are complicated,” Carter said.

Yeah, which is why you shouldn’t make promises you can’t keep. I expect that soon we’ll see another infantry brigade or two headed out for a deployment to Iraq.

Thanks to Chief Tango for the link.

This was easily foreseeable in 2011 – by anyone with common sense and even minimal knowledge of how the real-world works in the Middle East.

Draw your own conclusions as to what that says about the current Administration.

A Proud Infidel®™

More Troops being sent into harm’s way by a CiC and administration that never gave a flying fuck about anyone or anything but themselves and their public image, GOD be with them because the current crowd in DC isn’t!

OldSoldier54

Ditto, and Amen.

Miffy

God WILL be with them, because they are on the side of RIGHT. We have to keep the faith! Your pResident is a punk. The world knows that. Even in my insanely stupid 3rd world country we know that.

This whole President thing for BO? In my opinion it was simply a retirement guarantee.

LET ME BE CLEAR! Seriously?

What a PUNK! FUCK him and his legacy. How much more damage can this community organiser do to the USA?

Thunderstixx

^^^^^ Ummmm… Yeah, what he said… ^^^^^

“This is combat and things are complicated,” Carter said.

He’s right. It’s complicated. You racists just need to back off and let our CIC handle this. He was a model employee at Baskin Robbins (legend has it that he never screwed up anyone’s order). He was the “invisible brain” behind the Harvard Law Review! He’s a Constitutional Law Scholar, if you don’t believe me, just ask him! He has written TWO (Qty. 2 ea.) books, about himself! He won the Nobel Peace Prize on his first try! Plus, he has the guidance of the first openly gay Sec. Army!

//we’re so fooked. Get every one of our guys out of there until we have a CIC of substance.

OldManchu

You forgot to list another of his huge accomplishments:

He married a cover model…….

of National Geographic Magazine!

tc

Now that’s f**king funny.

So, as I understand this, Scrotum Shaver– whose ego was bruised when the expected fall of the Assad regime didn’t occur–will take “direct action” against ISIS in Syria where Vlad’s boys are present. It appears that Vlad gave Scrotum Shaver the okay on this. Jeez. I hope so.

Silentium Est Aureum

How’s that question go? What does Michelle Obama do every morning after she shaves her pussy?

Puts his tie on and sends him to the Oval Office.

2/17 Air Cav

That’s a keeper.

Sparks

Yea, that’s what I’m talking about! Spitting coffee on my keyboard! Thanks SEA!

Old Trooper

I see nothing good coming from this. It could end up being what it usually is under this CiC; a complete clusterfuck, but with the added danger of close proximity to Russian troops.

NavyEODguy

I agree with you, OT. Close proximity with some Russian guy looking at his guys and saying, “Let’s see if we can fuck’m up!”

With respect to using the pointy end of the spear tier one guys, I see using a “mixed force” (OUR guys with their guys) a recipe for a bad ending. Our guys have a minimum of several months of training (not counting any previous experience prior to getting into Delta or ST6) that adds to their experience level. How much prior experience does a raghead troop really have? Probably a couple or three instances of “spray & pray” coupled with the “training attempt” prior to a mission.

I’ve worked trying to train Saudis & Kuwaitis when I was on active duty. As far as I’m concerned it’s a non-starter endeavor.

Silentium Est Aureum

All we need is another fucking Wesley Clarke in Kosovo moment and we really will have WWIII on our hands.

2/17 Air Cav

I’m serious about his first getting Vlad’s permission. I am quite confident that the State Dept and Moscow have been working overtime on this. Of course, I am equally confident that something will go terribly wrong, as it did when we took out a hospital.

And waht the hell is up with Syria, anyway? Sounds like a free-for-all to me. Does anyone know whether we are there by drone or otherwise with Assad’s blessing?

David

“We are there to support the moderates. I have been assured by President Putin that nothing can go wrong by having two combat forces facing multiple unknown entiites in close quarters.”

rb325th

Oh, I envision lots of rainbows and unicorns coming from this…

HMCS (FMF) ret.

SMART POWER!!!!!

Candle

Sending prayers for the safety of the troops. I have had a bad feeling about this since it was announced. Hey President (cough) Obama. Want to think about that funding bill now?

Pinto Nag

I just hope that every slimy, spineless, worhtless politician that has had anything to do with frittering away the blood and lives of our military in this worthless bullshit of the last eight years, goes straight to blistering hell!!

Pinto Nag

…and if I happen to meet up with them there, I intend to be part of the reason they find it so uncomfortable!!!

Hondo

FWIW, PN: as recently as 6 1/2 years ago, things were going fairly well in Iraq. Things didn’t turn to crap until we failed to obtain a SOFA and left en masse in 2011.

You do the math.

Thunderstixx

I’m thinking more like having to spend the better part of eternity in a room locked with no manner of opening and containing the moocher, killary, john (I served in Vietnam you know) skerry, pussy boi potus and chucky manson, john gacy and a couple dozen Hell’s Angels just for party time…

The Other Whitey

So I guess we should expect lefty numbnuts to surround the White House with “OBAMA LIED” signs? Yeah, didn’t think so.

Can’t say I’m comfortable with his renewed game of chicken with Vlad the Impaler, either, because Putin has demonstrated that he doesn’t blink in the face of pussies. And few things can be dumber and more dangerous than a pussy trying to assert himself.

GDContractor

Then there’s that other game of chicken in the Spratly Islands.

Hondo

And few things can be dumber and more dangerous than a pussy trying to assert himself.

6 November 2012 comes to mind.

Devtun

The undersea fiber optic cables are looking mighty tempting to the Russkies.

Ex-PH2

Well, you guys should all sorta take heart at this: legislation is underway to increase funding for the military.

I kid you not. It was on the news this morning.

What?!?

Okay, I’ll go back to writing fan mail to Vlad.

Pinto Nag

Give that handsome hunk of Red my regards, will you?

Ex-PH2

Sure enough!

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Well this will be entertaining to see if there’s any actual plan beyond “direct action” in Iraq and Syria…two cesspools made more pungent by recent events…

So far our MO has been most useless in the ME, remove regime, destabilize region, reduce presence, hope for the best….

Guess that’s what Hope and Change meant, do nothing and hope shit changes for the better….and when it doesn’t blame Bush or anyone but the occupant at 1600 PA Ave.

OldSoldier54

I do not like this, one bit.

“This President is more worried about the legacy of his administration”

Or, being any kind of effective CinC. Lord, please protect our Military from our Government. Amen

Tony180a

The only thing new about this policy is publicly announcing it. SMU’S have always conducted CT/DA missions .

L. Taylor

Exactly.

Most of the political rhetoric being thrown around over this announcement is bullshit.

B Woodman

More troops to Iraq + hands tying ROEs = Too many filled returning body bags and flag draped caskets.

I weep for our troops.

Doug

So let me see if I have this straight . . .

1) The same people who created ISIS (obama & co) are now sending (more) ground troops back.
2) The same people who created ISIS now want to fight in Iraq AND Syria.
3) The Russians are carpet-bombing everything that is not under Assad’s direct control.
4) American troops . . . IN . . . Syria . . .

What could go wrong?

Sorensen25

An average President with below average leadership skills who will be overrated by the history books. His accomplishments include being black, telling other people to kill somebody that everybody wanted to kill, passing a bill that forces everybody to buy health insurance or pay a fine, and making a little bit of headway with Iran.

I didn’t vote for him, and I’m not sad about that either. Another politician that failed to deliver sums him up pretty well.
